Hong Lou Meng and Moment in Peking are both well know noves home and abroad.Based on a comparative analysis,it can be found that these two noves have many similarities in the arrangement of structure,plot,chracterization,and language style.Through a detailed analysis of these two noves,this paper explored the smilarities and also discussed the factors for this phenominon.

Cultural Identity and Translator's Style: Case Study of Translation of Tea Relevant Acts in Hong Lou Meng

From the methodological perspective, the thesis summarized leisure tea act, judging-time tea act to map translator's style. Through investigations on all these, the thesis succeeded in confirming the translator's styles and pinpointing cultural identity as essential factors influencing their styles. Hopefully, this could help to provide a new angle of view to make research on translator's style. Moreover, the thesis wishes that with analysis of tea culture in Hong Lou Meng the translation of tea relevant acts receive greater priority in the Chinese Classics Translation.

Difference of Translation Subjectivity fro Two English Translation Version of Hong Lou Meng

Hong Lou Meng is one of the four greatest classical novels of China. Since the appearance of the book, more and more people have been interested in it and have begun to study the book from different point of views. Then a new subject-redology, namely the study of the book- comes out. Hong Lou Meng, as representing the peak of the development in the tranditional chinese realistic novels, has been translated into many languages. Nowdays, there are only two versions of the translation that consists of the whole 120 chapters of the book: one is entitled A Dream of Red Mansions translated by Yang Hsien-yi and his wife Gladys Yang; the one with the title The Story of the Stone is translated by David Hawkes and John Minford.From the view of culture, the book Hong Lou Meng is a great collection of chinese traditional culture, and it reflects the tradition, the religion, the festivals, the tea culture, and the medicine culture and as well as the opera and poem s of chines people. But viewing the translation versions, different people have different translations to the same culture elements. This paper, beginning from this point, makes a first study about the translatiuon subjectivity sense, that leads to this translation differences.

Translating the Untranslatable—A Case Study of David Hawkes' Translation Work of Hong Lou Meng

Recognizing translatability instead of untranslatability is of significance, since a wide-spread recognition of untranslatability may daunt the efforts of translators. The paper approaches the question of untranslatability thorough categorizing untranslatability into different groups and then examining untranslatability in each group by analyzing some typical examples from David Hawkes' translation of Hong Lou Meng. Through the analysis of how David Hawkes translated the untranslatables, the paper argues that real untranslatability is rare, while translatability rules.

On Culture Translation of Hong Lou Meng

With the rapid development of China,Chinese culture is becoming more and more popular. Numbers of foreign scholars or literary-lovers are trying to learn China and Chinese culture. But many improper translations caused unnecessary confusions. So how to convey our own culture to the world turns into a big problem. 以20世纪前半期《红楼梦》的英译者群体为研究对象,考察该时期同一文化系统下译者怎样参与、回应以致影响《红楼梦》的翻译与传播;基于译者群体在身份、国籍等方面呈现的变化,分析这些因素对翻译选材、翻译目的及翻译策略所产生的影响。译者群体从自己的身份出发,或出于服务语言的需要,或出于传播中国文化的需要,抑或为了满足读者异域情调的需要,大都采取意译和创造性翻译的策略,从不同侧面再现了《红楼梦》这部经典名著的文学价值和意义,展示了时代和文化因素对该译者群体所起的整体作用,为当今中国文化“走出去”提供了有益的借鉴。

异化/归化与显化/隐化对应关系量化考察——以《红楼梦》官称英译为例

中西翻译理论、策略或风格研究长期陷入直译/意译、异化/归化、显化/隐化等两极分化的栓楷。大量真实的翻译语料可以证实,这些看似二元对立的概念/范畴背后,实际上是以连续体的形式存在的翻译结果,且这些概念/范畴间同样存在着彼此关联。本文着眼异化/归化与显化/隐化两对概念/范畴,提出两者及其内涵之间均存在正相关关系的假设,并以《红楼梦》七个高频官称在前12回的用例及其在四个英语全译本中的翻译结果为对象,设计了考察这些称谓的翻译策略与其呈现形式及文化值多寡关系的框架和路径,以验证该假设的适用性及相关考察方法的可操作性。本文旨在为不同翻译理论或概念搭建一个关联网络,探索出彼此互动的应用方法与抓手,为翻译学理论体系化构建提供借鉴。

本文以 Dirk Delabastita的双关语翻译理论为参照 ,研究《红楼梦》杨宪益夫妇、霍克思和闵福德的两种英文全译本中的地名、人名双关语翻译 ,指出译者的双关语翻译方法充分体现了译者的翻译思想和翻译策略。杨译以原语文化为导向 ,表现出强烈的异化倾向 ;霍译则以译语文化为导向 ,归化与异化倾向兼而有之。

文学语境与人名隐喻的翻译研究——基于《红楼梦》英译文的个案研究
