Changes in protein abundance and reversible protein phosphorylation(RPP)play important roles in regulating hypometabolism but have never been documented in overwintering frogs at high altitudes.To test the hypothesis that protein abundance and phosphorylation change in response to winter hibernation,we conducted a comprehensive and quantitative proteomic and phosphoproteomic analysis of the liver of the Xizang plateau frog,Nanorana parkeri,living on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.In total,5170 proteins and 5695 phosphorylation sites in 1938 proteins were quantified.Based on proteomic analysis,674 differentially expressed proteins(438 up-regulated,236 down-regulated)were screened in hibernating N.parkeri versus summer individuals.Functional enrichment analysis revealed that higher expressed proteins in winter were significantly enriched in immune-related signaling pathways,whereas lower expressed proteins were mainly involved in metabolic processes.A total of 4251 modified sites(4147 up-regulated,104 down-regulated)belonging to 1638 phosphoproteins(1555 up-regulated,83 down-regulated)were significantly changed in the liver.During hibernation,RPP regulated a diverse array of proteins involved in multiple functions,including metabolic enzymatic activity,ion transport,protein turnover,signal transduction,and alternative splicing.These changes contribute to enhancing protection,suppressing energy-consuming processes,and inducing metabolic depression.Moreover,the activities of phosphofructokinase,glutamate dehydrogenase,and ATPase were all significantly lower in winter compared to summer.In conclusion,our results support the hypothesis and demonstrate the importance of RPP as a regulatory mechanism when animals transition into a hypometabolic state. 展开更多

Aqueous Zn-ion batteries(AZIBs)have attracted increasing attention in next-generation energy storage systems due to their high safety and economic.Unfortunately,the side reactions,dendrites and hydrogen evolution effects at the zinc anode interface in aqueous electrolytes seriously hinder the application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries.Here,we report a critical solvation strategy to achieve reversible zinc electrochemistry by introducing a small polar molecule acetonitrile to form a“catcher”to arrest active molecules(bound water molecules).The stable solvation structure of[Zn(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+)is capable of maintaining and completely inhibiting free water molecules.When[Zn(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+)is partially desolvated in the Helmholtz outer layer,the separated active molecules will be arrested by the“catcher”formed by the strong hydrogen bond N-H bond,ensuring the stable desolvation of Zn^(2+).The Zn||Zn symmetric battery can stably cycle for 2250 h at 1 mAh cm^(-2),Zn||V_(6)O_(13) full battery achieved a capacity retention rate of 99.2%after 10,000 cycles at 10 A g^(-1).This paper proposes a novel critical solvation strategy that paves the route for the construction of high-performance AZIBs. 展开更多

According to the second law of thermodynamics, as currently understood, any given transit of a system along the reversible path proceeds with a total entropy change equal to zero. The fact that this condition is also the identifier of thermodynamic equilibrium, makes each and every point along the reversible path a state of equilibrium, and the reversible path, as expressed by a noted thermodynamic author, “a dense succession of equilibrium states”. The difficulties with these notions are plural. The fact, for example, that systems need to be forced out of equilibrium via the expenditure of work, would make any spontaneous reversible process a consumer of work, this in opposition to common thermodynamic wisdom that makes spontaneous reversible processes the most efficient transformers of work-producing-potential into actual work. The solution to this and other related impasses is provided by Dialectical Thermodynamics via its previously proved notion assigning a negative entropy change to the energy upgrading process represented by the transformation of heat into work. The hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetic properties of MgH_(2)can be effectively enhanced by doping specific catalysts.In this work,MOFs-derived NiCu@C nanoparticles(~15 nm)with regular core-shell structure were successfully prepared and introduced into MgH_(2)(denoted as MgH_(2)-NiCu@C).The onset and peak temperatures of hydrogen desorption of MgH_(2)-11 wt.%NiCu@C are 175.0℃and282.2℃,respectively.The apparent activation energy of dehydrogenated reaction is 77.2±4.5 kJ/mol for MgH_(2)-11 wt.%NiCu@C,which is lower than half of that of the as-milled MgH_(2).Moreover,MgH_(2)-11 wt.%NiCu@C displays great cyclic stability.The strengthening"hydrogen pumping"effect of reversible solid solutions Mg_(2)Ni(Cu)/Mg_(2)Ni(Cu)H_(4)is proposed to explain the remarkable improvement in hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetic properties of MgH_(2).This work offers a novel perspective for the design of bimetallic nanoparticles and beyond for application in hydrogen storage and other energy related fields. 展开更多

The interaction between metal and support is critical in oxygen catalysis as it governs the charge transfer between these two entities,influences the electronic structures of the supported metal,affects the adsorption energies of reaction intermediates,and ultimately impacts the catalytic performance.In this study,we discovered a unique charge transfer reversal phenomenon in a metal/carbon nanohybrid system.Specifically,electrons were transferred from the metal-based species to N-doped carbon,while the carbon support reciprocally donated electrons to the metal domain upon the introduction of nickel.This led to the exceptional electrocatalytic performances of the resulting Ni-Fe/Mo_(2)C@nitrogen-doped carbon catalyst,with a half-wave potential of 0.91 V towards oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and a low overpotential of 290 m V at 10 mA cm^(-2)towards oxygen evolution reaction(OER)under alkaline conditions.Additionally,the Fe-Ni/Mo_(2)C@carbon heterojunction catalyst demonstrated high specific capacity(794 mA h g_(Zn)~(-1))and excellent cycling stability(200 h)in a Zn-air battery.Theoretical calculations revealed that Mo_(2)C effectively inhibited charge transfer from Fe to the support,while secondary doping of Ni induced a charge transfer reversal,resulting in electron accumulation in the Fe-Ni alloy region.This local electronic structure modulation significantly reduced energy barriers in the oxygen catalysis process,enhancing the catalytic efficiency of both ORR and OER.Consequently,our findings underscore the potential of manipulating charge transfer reversal between the metal and support as a promising strategy for developing highly-active and durable bi-functional oxygen electrodes. 展开更多

In this editorial,we talk about a compelling case focusing on posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome(PRES)as a complication in patients undergoing liver transplantation and treated with Tacrolimus.Tacrolimus(FK 506),derived from Streptomyces tsukubaensis,is a potent immunosuppressive macrolide.It inhibits Tcell transcription by binding to FK-binding protein,and is able to amplify glucocorticoid and progesterone effects.Tacrolimus effectively prevents allograft rejection in transplant patients but has adverse effects such as Tacrolimus-related PRES.PRES presents with various neurological symptoms alongside elevated blood pressure,and is primarily characterized by vasogenic edema on neuroimaging.While computed tomography detects initial lesions,magnetic resonance imaging,especially the Fluid-Attenuated Inversion Recovery sequence,is superior for diagnosing cortical and subcortical edema.Our discussion centers on the incidence of PRES in solid organ transplant recipients,which ranges between 0.5 to 5+ACU-,with varying presentations,from seizures to visual disturbances.The case of a 66-year-old male status post liver transplantation highlights the diagnostic and management challenges associated with Tacrolimus-related PRES.Radiographically evident in the parietal and occipital lobes,PRES underlines the need for heightened vigilance among healthcare providers.This editorial emphasizes the importance of early recognition,accurate diagnosis,and effective management of PRES to optimize outcomes in liver transplant patients.The case further explores the balance between the efficacy of immunosuppression with Tacrolimus and its potential neurological risks,underlining the necessity for careful monitoring and intervention strategies in this patient population. 展开更多

Trends in the Use of Reversible Modern Contraceptives in Burkina Faso between 2010 and 2015

Background: In Burkina Faso, efforts have been made between 2010 and 2015 to address the low levels of contraceptive utilization. However, the socio-cultural context in the country still reinforces traditional gender roles, low status for women, and a strong desire for larger families. The objectives of this study are twofold: 1) to analyze the trends in reversible modern contraceptive prevalence, and 2) to identify the factors influencing the use of reversible modern contraceptives, comparing the urban and rural areas. Data and Methods: We conducted an analysis using data from Burkina Faso sourced from the 2010 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) and the 2015 Demographic and Health Module (DHM). The 2010 DHS received responses from 17,087 women aged 15 - 49 years, achieving a response rate of 98.4%. Similarly, the 2015 DHM garnered responses from 11,504 women aged 15 - 49 years, with a response rate of 96.6%. Results: Our findings revealed that while advancements were observed in urban areas, the majority of underprivileged women still faced limited access to modern contraception. Moreover, we did not observe any significant interaction effects between age and parity with the year of the survey. However, there was a slight decrease in the impact of marital status, although the difference between married and non-married women remained significant in 2015. It is noteworthy that family planning discussions and approval continued to play crucial roles. Conclusion: The initiatives to subsidize contraceptive costs and establish mobile clinics have proven inadequate in facilitating rural, impoverished, and young women’s access to modern contraception. Additional endeavors are required to enhance geographical accessibility to modern contraceptives by expanding the availability of supply sources, particularly in rural areas. Furthermore, providing psychosocial support has the potential to empower women in making informed contraceptive decisions and exercising greater control over their reproductive choices. 展开更多

An Efficient EMD-Based Reversible Data Hiding Technique Using Dual Stego Images

Exploiting modification direction(EMD)based data hiding techniques(DHTs)provide moderate data hiding capacity and high-quality stego images.The overflow problem and the cyclic nature of the extraction function essentially hinder their application in several fields in which reversibility is necessary.Thus far,the few EMD reversible DHTs are complex and numerically demanding.This paper presents a novel EMD-based reversible DHT using dual-image.Two novel 2×4 modification lookup tables are introduced,replacing the 256×256 reference matrix used in similar techniques and eliminating the numerically demanding search step in similar techniques.In the embedding step,one of the modification tables modifies a pixel in odd columns in the first cover image and keeps its image in the second cover image intact.The other modification table modifies a pixel in even columns in the second cover image and keeps its image in the first cover image intact.This embedding strategy enables direct reversibility at almost zero computational cost.This technique embeds one 4−ary secret digit into each pixel in the first cover image and its image in the second cover image resulting in one bit per pixel(bpp)data embedding rate.The use of the 4−ary numbering system enables direct and numerically efficient conversion of the binary secret message to the 4−ary and vice versa.The advantages of the proposed algorithm are straightforward reversibility,simplicity,numerical efficiency,direct conversion of the binary secret message to 4−ary and vice versa,and elimination of the need for the 256×256 reference matrix by replacing it with two 2×4 lookup tables.Simulation results show that the embedding rate of the proposed technique is one bpp.It achieved more than 49 dB average Peak to Signal Noise Ratio(PSNR)over all test images. 展开更多

Few previous Reversible Visible Watermarking(RVW)schemes have both good transparency and watermark visibility.An adaptive RVW scheme that integrates Total Variation and visual perception in Block Truncation Coding(BTC)compressed domain,called TVB-RVW is proposed in this paper.A new mean image estimation method for BTC-compressed images is first developed with the help of Total Variation.Then,a visual perception factor computation model is devised by fusing texture and luminance characteristics.An adaptive watermark embedding strategy is used to embed the visible watermark with the effect of the visual perception factor in the BTC domain.Moreover,a lossless embedding method of the encrypted visible watermark is exploited to deter illegal watermark removal.The visible watermark can be removed since the visual perception factor and the estimated mean image remain unchanged before and after watermark embedding.Extensive experiments validate the superiority of the proposed algorithm over previous RVW schemes in BTC in terms of the visual quality of watermarked images and watermark visibility,and it can achieve a good balance between transparency and watermark visibility. 展开更多

In recent years,deep generative models have been successfully applied to perform artistic painting style transfer(APST).The difficulties might lie in the loss of reconstructing spatial details and the inefficiency of model convergence caused by the irreversible en-decoder methodology of the existing models.Aiming to this,this paper proposes a Flow-based architecture with both the en-decoder sharing a reversible network configuration.The proposed APST-Flow can efficiently reduce model uncertainty via a compact analysis-synthesis methodology,thereby the generalization performance and the convergence stability are improved.For the generator,a Flow-based network using Wavelet additive coupling(WAC)layers is implemented to extract multi-scale content features.Also,a style checker is used to enhance the global style consistency by minimizing the error between the reconstructed and the input images.To enhance the generated salient details,a loss of adaptive stroke edge is applied in both the global and local model training.The experimental results show that the proposed method improves PSNR by 5%,SSIM by 6.2%,and decreases Style Error by 29.4%over the existing models on the ChipPhi set.The competitive results verify that APST-Flow achieves high-quality generation with less content deviation and enhanced generalization,thereby can be further applied to more APST scenes. 展开更多

Cation-disordered rocksalt oxides(DRX)have been identified as promising cathode materials for high energy density applications owing to their variable elemental composition and cationic-anionic redox activity.However,their practical implementation has been impeded by unwanted phenomena such as irrepressible transition metal migration/dissolution and O_(2)/CO_(2)evolution,which arise due to parasitic reactions and densification-degradation mechanisms during extended cycling.To address these issues,a micron-sized DRX cathode Li_(1.2)Ni_(1/3)Ti_(1/3)W_(2/15)O_(1.85)F_(0.15)(SLNTWOF)with F substitution and ultrathin LiF coating layer is developed by alcohols assisted sol-gel method.Within this fluorination-induced integrated structure design(FISD)strategy,in-situ F substitution modifies the activity/reversibility of the cationic-anionic redox reaction,while the ultrathin LiF coating and single-crystal structure synergistically mitigate the cathode/electrolyte parasitic reaction and densification-degradation mechanism.Attributed to the multiple modifications and size effect in the FISD strategy,the SLNTWOF sample exhibits reversible cationic-anionic redox chemistry with a meliorated reversible capacity of 290.3 mA h g^(-1)at 0.05C(1C=200 mA g^(-1)),improved cycling stability of 78.5%capacity retention after 50 cycles at 0.5 C,and modified rate capability of 102.8 mA h g^(-1)at 2 C.This work reveals that the synergistic effects between bulk structure modification,surface regulation,and engineering particle size can effectively modulate the distribution and evolution of cationic-anionic redox activities in DRX cathodes. 展开更多

Factors Influencing the Choice between IUD and Implant among Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARCs) Users in Burkina Faso

Among these methods, the Implant has gained popularity in sub-Saharan Africa, whereas the utilization of Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) has remained comparatively low, particularly in Burkina Faso. This study aims to evaluate the shifts in IUD and Implant usage from 2010 to 2020 and to pinpoint the factors influencing the choice of IUDs among LARCs users in Burkina Faso. Data and Methods: We conducted an analysis using data from Burkina Faso, drawn from the 2010 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) and the 2020 PMA Phase 1 data. The 2010 DHS garnered responses from 17,087 women aged 15 - 49, achieving a response rate of 98.4%. The 2020 PMA data collected responses from 6590 women aged 15 - 49, with a response rate of 95.8%. The final sample of Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs) users consisted of 1502 women, including 576 women from the 2010 survey and 926 women from the 2020 survey. Results: The study demonstrates an expansion of IUD usage to include socioeconomically disadvantaged segments among LARC users. However, higher levels of education, older age, and decisions influenced by healthcare providers are correlated with the preference for IUDs over Implants. The choice of IUDs is also connected to a comprehensive understanding of contraceptive methods, suggesting potential biases in the counseling process. Conclusion: Facilitating the broader adoption of IUDs among disadvantaged groups could be achieved by improving the accessibility of IUD products and services in rural areas. Nevertheless, there should be focused initiatives to enhance access to removal services, as this factor could dissuade specific users. Further efforts are required to train healthcare providers, aiming to mitigate biases in delivering Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs). Providers should provide impartial counseling, irrespective of the selected type of LARC. 展开更多

Commercialization of Zn-metal anodes with low cost and high theoretical capacity is hindered by the poor reversibility caused by dendrites growth,side reactions,and the slow Zn^(2+)-transport and reaction kinetics.Herein,a reversible heterogeneous electrode of Zn-nanocrystallites/polyvinylphosphonic acrylamide(Zn/PPAm)with fast electrochemical kinetics is designed for the first time:phosphonic acid groups with strong polarity and chelation effect ensure structural reversibility and stability of the threedimensional Zn-storage-host PPAm network and the Zn/PPAm hybrid;hydrophobic carbon chains suppress side reactions such as hydrogen evolution and corrosion;weak electron-donating amide groups constitute Zn^(2+)-transport channels and promote“desolvation”and“solvation”effects of Zn^(2+)by dragging the PPAm network on the Zn-metal surface to compress/stretch during Zn plating/stripping,respectively;and the heterostructure and Zn nanocrystallites suppress dendrite growth and enhance electrochemical reactivity,respectively.Thus,the Zn/PPAm electrode shows cycle reversibility of over 6000 h with a hysteresis voltage as low as 31 mV in symmetrical cells and excellent durability and flexibility in fiber-shaped batteries. 展开更多

This paper presents an identification method of the scalar Preisach model to consider the effect of reversible magnetization in the process of distribution function identification.By reconsidering the identification process by stripping the influence of reversible components from the measurement data,the Preisach distribution function is identified by the pure irreversible components.In this way,the simulation accuracy of both limiting hysteresis loops and the inner internal symmetrical small hysteresis loop is ensured.Furthermore,through a discrete Preisach plane with a hybrid discretization method,the irreversible magnetic flux density components are computed more efficiently through the improved Preisach model.Finally,the proposed method results are compared with the traditional method and the traditional method considering reversible magnetization and validated by the laboratory test for the B30P105 electrical steel by Epstein frame. 展开更多

Metal–N_(2) battery can be applied in both energy storage and electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction(NRR);however,there has been only extraordinarily little study on metal–N_(2) battery since its electrochemical reversibility still needs further proofs.And its electrochemical performances also need to be enhanced.Herein,we investigated the discharge–charge reactions between Li anode and N_(2) cathode via designing an efficient catalyst of nanosized SnO_(2) particles dispersed on N-doped carbon nanosheets(SnO 2@NC)for the Li-N_(2) battery,with good cyclic stability and a high specific capacity of 0.25 mA h(~500 mA h g^(−1))at a large current density of 1000 mA g^(−1).The electrochemical reversibility of both NRR in the discharge process and nitrogen extraction reaction in the charge process for Li-N 2 battery is discussed.Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry results imply that the SnO_(2)@NC can effectively promote the adsorption of N_(2) and the activation of NRR in the discharge process.Furthermore,ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared tests are performed to study the electrochemical reversibility of Li-N_(2) battery.It can be proved that the formation and decomposition of discharging product Li_(3)N are electrochemical reversible during cycling in our deigned Li-N_(2) battery system with SnO_(2)@NC catalyst. 展开更多

One of the elementary operations in computing systems is multiplication.Therefore,high-speed and low-power multipliers design is mandatory for efficient computing systems.In designing low-energy dissipation circuits,reversible logic is more efficient than irreversible logic circuits but at the cost of higher complexity.This paper introduces an efficient signed/unsigned 4×4 reversible Vedic multiplier with minimum quantum cost.The Vedic multiplier is considered fast as it generates all partial product and their sum in one step.This paper proposes two reversible Vedic multipliers with optimized quantum cost and garbage output.First,the unsigned Vedic multiplier is designed based on the Urdhava Tiryakbhyam(UT)Sutra.This multiplier consists of bitwise multiplication and adder compressors.Compared with Vedic multipliers in the literature,the proposed design has a quantum cost of 111 with a reduction of 94%compared to the previous design.It has a garbage output of 30 with optimization of the best-compared design.Second,the proposed unsigned multiplier is expanded to allow the multiplication of signed numbers as well as unsigned numbers.Two signed Vedic multipliers are presented with the aim of obtaining more optimization in performance parameters.DesignI has separate binary two’s complement(B2C)and MUX circuits,while DesignII combines binary two’s complement and MUX circuits in one circuit.DesignI shows the lowest quantum cost,231,regarding state-ofthe-art.DesignII has a quantum cost of 199,reducing to 86.14%of DesignI.The functionality of the proposed multiplier is simulated and verified using XILINX ISE 14.2. 展开更多

Dual-image reversible data hiding(RDH)is a technique for hiding important messages.This technology can be used to safely deliver secret mes-sages to the recipient through dual images in an open network without being easily noticed.The recipient of the image must receive the two stego-images before the secret message can be completely retrieved.Imperceptibility is one of the main advantages of data hiding technology;to increase the imperceptibility,the quality requirements of the stego-images are relatively important.A dual ste-ganographic image RDH method,called a DS-CF scheme that can achieve a bet-ter steganographic image quality using the center folding(CF)strategy.In this paper,we developed a translocation and switching strategy(TaS)to shorten the distances between the stego-pixel coordinates and the cover pixel coordinates after information being hidden.Compared with the DS-CF scheme,our proposed DS-TaS scheme can effectively improve the quality of the steganographic images at the same level of embedding capability.The experimental results show that the PSNR of our DS-TaS scheme at k=1 was 55.66 dB,which is an increase of 1.5 dB,and is 51.43 dB for k=2,46.66 dB for k=3,and 40.91 dB for k=4.In addition,the PSNR values of the stego images was increased by 1.5,0.29,0.29,and 0.19 dB,respectively.This shows that our proposed dual-image RDH method can optimize the visual quality of the stego-images and is better than many other dual-image RDH techniques. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome(PRES)is characterized mainly by occipital and parietal lobe involvement,which can be reversible within a few days.Herein,we report a rare case of PRES that developed after craniotomy for an unruptured intracranial aneurysm(UIA).CASE SUMMARY A 59-year-old man underwent clipping surgery for the treatment of UIA arising from the left middle cerebral artery.Clipping surgery was performed uneventfully,and he regained consciousness quickly immediately after the surgery.At the 4th hour after surgery,he developed a disorder of consciousness and aphasia.Magnetic resonance imaging revealed cortical and subcortical T2/FLAIR hyperintensities in the parietal,occipital,and frontal lobes ipsilaterally,without restricted diffusion,consistent with unilateral PRES.With conservative treatment,his symptoms and radiological findings almost completely disappeared within weeks.In our case,the important causative factor of PRES was suspected to be a sudden increase in cerebral perfusion pressure associated with temporary M1 occlusion.CONCLUSION Our unique case highlights that,to our knowledge,this is the second report of PRES developing after craniotomy for the treatment of UIA.Surgeons must keep PRES in mind as one of the causes of perioperative neurological abnormality following clipping of an UIA. 展开更多

Reversible data hiding is an information hiding technique that requires the retrieval of the error free cover image after the extraction of the secret image.We suggested a technique in this research that uses a recursive embedding method to increase capacity substantially using the Integer wavelet transform and the Arnold transform.The notion of Integer wavelet transforms is to ensure that all coefficients of the cover images are used during embedding with an increase in payload.By scrambling the cover image,Arnold transform adds security to the information that gets embedded and also allows embedding more information in each iteration.The hybrid combination of Integer wavelet transform and Arnold transform results to build a more efficient and secure system.The proposed method employs a set of keys to ensure that information cannot be decoded by an attacker.The experimental results show that it aids in the development of a more secure storage system and withstand few tampering attacks The suggested technique is tested on many image formats,including medical images.Various performance metrics proves that the retrieved cover image and hidden image are both intact.This System is proven to withstand rotation attack as well. 展开更多

Three-dimensional(3D)bioprinting has been used widely for the construction of hard tissues such as bone and cartilage.However,constructing soft tissues with complex structures remains a challenge.In this study,complex structures characterized by both tunable elastic modulus and porosity were printed using freeform reversible embedding of suspended hydrogels(FRESHs)printing methods.A mixture of alginate and gelatin was used as the main functional component of the bioink.Rheological analysis showed that this bioink possesses shear thinning and shear recovery properties,supporting both cryogenic and FRESH printing methods.Potential printing capabilities and limitations of cryogenic and FRESH printing were then analyzed by printability tests.A series of complex structures were printed by FRESH printing methods which could not be realized using conventional approaches.Mechanical tests and scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that the printed structure is of excellent flexibility and could be applied in various conditions by adjusting its mechanical modulus and porosity.L929 fibroblast cells maintained cell viability in cell-laden-printed structures,and the addition of collagen further improved the hydrogels’biocompatibility.Overall,all results provided useful insight into the building of human soft tissue organ blocks. 展开更多
