In addition, the thermal fatigue properties of the...High-temperature mechanical properties of high-boron austenitic steels (HBASs) were studied at 850 ℃ using a dynamic thermal-mechanical simulation testing machine. In addition, the thermal fatigue properties of the alloys were investigated using the self-restraint Uddeholm thermal fatigue test, during which the alloy specimens were cycled between room temperature and 800℃. Stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to study the surface cracks and cross-sectional microstructure of the alloy specimens after the thermal fatigue tests. The effects of carbon content on the mechanical properties at room temperature and high-temperature as well as thermal fatigue properties of the HBASs were also studied. The experimental results show that increasing carbon content induces changes in the microstructure and mechanical properties of the HBASs. The boride phase within the HBAS matrix exhibits a round and smooth morphology, and they are distributed in a discrete manner. The hardness of the alloys increases from 239 (0.19wt.% C) to 302 (0.29wt.% C) and 312 HV (0.37wt.% C); the tensile yield strength at 850 ℃ increases from 165.1 to 190.3 and 197.1 MPa; and the compressive yield strength increases from 166.1 to 167.9 and 184.4 MPa. The results of the thermal fatigue tests (performed for 300 cycles from room temperature to 800 ℃) indicate that the degree of thermal fatigue of the HBAS with 0.29wt.% C (rating of 2-3) is superior to those of the alloys with 0.19wt.% (rating of 4-5) and 0.37wt.% (rating of 3-4) carbon. The main cause of this difference is the ready precipitation of M23(C,B)6- type borocarbides in the alloys with high carbon content during thermal fatigue testing. The precipitation and aggregation of borocarbide particles at the grain boundaries result in the deterioration of the thermal fatigue properties of the alloys.展开更多

Fully reversed tension - compression fatigue tests at ambient temperature were performed using an ultrasonic fatigue system operating at 20 kHz.The staircase test method was employed to obtain accurate values of the mean fatigue strength corresponding to fixed numbers of cycles up to 10~9.These results were compared to the curve which is estimated by the data tested in the mid-long life regime on conventional servo hydraulic test machine at 20 Hz.Results indicate that the fatigue strength determined from ultrasonic fatigue testing is lightly higher than conventional testing in the range of 10~6-10~7 cycles.It is obvious that nucleations of fractures tend to occur below the surface, if fractures happen after more than 10~7 cycles.All the fractured specimens fails from internal SiO_2 inclusions or smaller carbides and carbide clusters.展开更多

Experimental results showed that for most tested specimens failed in a VHCF regime, a fatigue crack originated from the interior of specimen with a fish-eye pattern, which contained a fine granular area (FGA) centered by an inclusion as the crack origin. Then, a two-parameter model is proposed to predict the fatigue life of high-strength steels with fish-eye mode failure in a VHCF regime, which takes into account the inclusion size and the FGA size. The model was verified by the data of present experiments and those in the literature. Furthermore, an analytic formula was obtained for estimating the equivalent crack growth rate within the FGA. The results also indicated that the stress intensity factor range at the front of the FGA varies within a small range, which is irrespective of stress amplitude and fatigue life.展开更多

The base material used in this investigation is HSLA-80 steel of weldable grade. Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process has been used to fabricate the butt joints. Centre cracked tension (CCT) specimen has been used to evaluate the fatigue crack growth behaviour of the welded joints. Boron and carbon contents are the main factors influencing the properties of high-boron steel.In this study,experimental samples with different boron-to-carbon ratios(%B/%C)were prepared.The microstructures of the dif...Boron and carbon contents are the main factors influencing the properties of high-boron steel.In this study,experimental samples with different boron-to-carbon ratios(%B/%C)were prepared.The microstructures of the different samples were observed,and their hardness,bending strength,and impact toughness were investigated.Results show that the main microstructures in the investigated high-boron steel samples are the eutectic Fe_(2)B structure with a fishbone shape and the ternary peritectic Fe_(3)(C,B)structure with a chrysanthemum shape.When the boron content is 2.5wt.%and the carbon content is 0.43wt.%(i.e.,%B/%C=5.82),the overall mechanical properties of the alloy are the best.The alloy's hardness,bending strength and impact toughness reach their maximums,which are 67.3 HRC,1,267.36 MPa and 6.19 J·cm^(-2),respectively.The optimized alloy is compared with conventional materials exhibiting excellent wear resistance(namely,high-manganese steel and high-chromium cast iron)through two-body and three-body abrasion tests.The wear resistance of this high-boron steelinvestigated in this work is found to be superior to those of the more common materials.展开更多

In this work, the boron steel...The mechanical mismatch effect frequently occurs in the dissimilar materials welded joints, thus leading to plastic gradient at the interface between the weld and heat-affected zone(HAZ). In this work, the boron steel and Q235 steel were selected for laser tailor welding,which obtained boron/Q235 steel tailor-welded blanks(TWBs). The method of welding with synchronous thermal field(WSTF) was utilized to eliminate the mismatch effects in TWBs. The WSTF was employed to adjust cooling rates of welded joints, thereby intervening in the solidification behaviors and phase transition of the molten pool. Boron/Q235 steel was welded by laser under conventional and WSTF(300-600 ℃) conditions, respectively. The results show that the microstructure of weld and HAZ(boron) was adequately transitioned to ferrites and pearlites instead of abundant martensite by WSTF. Meanwhile, the discrepancy of microhardness and yield strength between various regions of welded joints was greatly reduced, and the overall plasticity of welded joints was enhanced by WSTF. It is indicated that WSTF can effectively contribute to reducing plastic gradient and achieving mechanical congruity in welded joints by restraining the generation of hardbrittle phase, which could significantly improve the formability of TWBs in subsequent hot stamping.展开更多

The metho...The effect of pre-corrosion on fatigue behavior of high strength steel 38CrMoAl was investigated with a fatigue test method using the accelerated pre-corrosion specimen in the neutral salt spray environment. The methods of weight-loss and energy dispersive spectrum (EDS) were adopted. The corrosion weight-loss rate was fitted with the test time using power law, and the relationship between the corrosion weight-loss rate and the time was formulated. Moreover, the fatigue behaviors of the steel for different pre-corrosion time were investigated by the axis-direction tensile fatigue test. The fatigue life distribution characteristics of the pre-corrosion specimens were studied using the statistical probability methods, and the mathematical expectations and the standard tolerances of the material fatigue lives after different pre-corrosion time were obtained. It was found that the crack initiation of the high strength steel was accelerated by the preferential corrosion at the local plastic deform areas. The fatigue life obeys the lognormal distribution perfectly. Furthermore, within the common time range of the engineering, the standard tolerances of the logarithm of the fatigue life were independent of the pre-corrosion time.展开更多
The mechanism of oxide inclusions in fatigue crack initiation in the very-high cycle fatigue(VHCF)regime was clarified by subjecting bearing steels deoxidized by Al(Al-deoxidized steel)and Si(Si-deoxidized steel)to ul...The mechanism of oxide inclusions in fatigue crack initiation in the very-high cycle fatigue(VHCF)regime was clarified by subjecting bearing steels deoxidized by Al(Al-deoxidized steel)and Si(Si-deoxidized steel)to ultrasonic tension-compression fatigue tests(stress ratio,R=−1)and analyzing the characteristics of the detected inclusions.Results show that the main types of inclusions in Si-and Al-deoxidized steels are silicate and calcium aluminate,respectively.The content of calcium aluminate inclusions larger than 15μm in Si-deoxidized steel is lower than that in Al-deoxidized steel,and the difference observed may be attributed to different inclusion generation processes during melting.Despite differences in their cleanliness and total oxygen contents,the Si-and Al-deoxidized steels show similar VHCF lives.The factors causing fatigue failure in these steels reveal distinct differences.Calcium aluminate inclusions are responsible for the cracks in Al-deoxidized steel.By comparison,most fatigue cracks in Si-deoxidized steel are triggered by the inhomogeneity of a steel matrix,which indicates that the damage mechanisms of the steel matrix can be a critical issue for this type of steel.A minor portion of the cracks in Si-deoxidized steel could be attributed to different types of inclusions.The mechanisms of fatigue fracture caused by calcium aluminate and silicate inclusions were further analyzed.Calcium aluminate inclusions first separate from the steel matrix and then trigger crack generation.Silicate inclusions and the steel matrix are closely combined in a fatigue process;thus,these inclusions have mild effects on the fatigue life of bearing steels.Si/Mn deoxidation is an effective method to produce high-quality bearing steel with a long fatigue life and good liquid steel fluidity.展开更多

An experimental investigati...The objective of this work is to investigate the fatigue behavior of reinforced concrete(RC) beams strengthened with externally bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) and steel plate. An experimental investigation and theoretical analysis were made on the law of deflection development and stiffness degradation, as well as the influence of fatigue load ranges. Test results indicate that the law of three-stage change under fatigue loading is followed by both midspan deflection and permanent deflection, which also have positive correlation with fatigue load amplitude. Fatigue stiffness of composite strengthened beams degrades gradually with the increasing of number of cycles. Based on the experimental results, a theoretical model by effective moment of inertia method is developed for calculating the sectional stiffness of such composite strengthened beams under fatigue loading, and the calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental results.展开更多

The main results obtained are as follows: (1) Due to low oxygen content and dispersion inclusions in steel, the fatigue Life of LF-VD-IC or CC is three times as high as that of EAF steel; (2) The oxygen content in steel produced by CC process is about 9.0x10(-6), the carbon segregation (C/C(0)) is from 0.92 to 1.10 and the fatigue life of CC steel is equal to that of ladle refining ingot casting steel; (3) Although the amount of inclusion and oxygen in ESR steel is higher than that of LF-VD-IC or CC steel, the fatigue life of ESR steel is higher than that of the latter because of its fine and well dispersed inclusions.展开更多
The fatigue life evaluation of the girth butt weld within the welded cast steel joint was studied based on the extrapolation notch stress method.Firstly,the mesh sensitivity of the finite element model of the welded c...The fatigue life evaluation of the girth butt weld within the welded cast steel joint was studied based on the extrapolation notch stress method.Firstly,the mesh sensitivity of the finite element model of the welded cast steel joint was analyzed to determine the optimal mesh size.Based on the stress field analysis of the finite element model of the welded cast steel joint at the weld toe and weld root,the sharp model of the extrapolation notch stress method was applied to derive the effective notch stress of the rounded model belonging to the effective notch stress method,in which the key problem is to calculate the extrapolation point C,and the extrapolation point C has an exponential function relationship with the geometric parameters of the welded cast steel joint.By setting different values of geometric parameters,the corresponding value of parameter C is calculated,and then the functional relationship between the extrapolation point C and the geometric parameters can be obtained by the multiple linear regression analysis.Meanwhile,the fatigue life evaluation of the girth butt weld within welded cast steel joints based on the effective notch stress was performed according to the guideline recommended by the IIW(International Institute of Welding).The results indicate that the extrapolation notch stress method can effectively simplify the process of calculating the effective notch stress and accurately evaluate the fatigue life of the girth butt weld within welded cast steel joints.展开更多

Fracture mechanisms were also analyzed based on the relationship between microstructure transformation and continuous cooling transformation(CCT) curves. It is found that 1) fractures of the investigated steel at high temperatures are dimple fractures; 2) the deformation of high-strength boron steel at high temperatures accelerates diffusion transformations; thus, to obtain full martensite, a higher cooling rate is needed; and 3) the investigated steel has the best plasticity when the deformation temperature is 750 °C.展开更多
For elucidating applicability of FSM (field signature method) on detection of fatigue crack initiation and monitoring of its propagation, a series of fatigue tests on steel plate decks (4,625 × 2,250 mm^2) st...For elucidating applicability of FSM (field signature method) on detection of fatigue crack initiation and monitoring of its propagation, a series of fatigue tests on steel plate decks (4,625 × 2,250 mm^2) stiffened in lattice-shape by longitudinal and lateral ribs was carried out by using a wheel load traveling test machine. The fatigue crack was observed by visual inspection at the weld toe between the deck plate and the longitudinal rib when the number of wheel load traveling repetition was around 210 thousands. The response of FSM-monitoring, which was the potential difference change between the sensing pins (pair), became clear when the number of the repetition was around 190 thousands. The fatigue crack initiation could be detected by FSM considerably earlier than visual inspection. The fatigue crack propagation such as the direction could also be monitored even though the distance of the sensing pins was extended to 230 mm. On the other hand, the electric field analysis for the virgin situation without any cracks was carried out. The results of analysis indicated that 60 mm length of crack which could not be confirmed by visual inspection could be detected by FSM.展开更多

In this study, FSP was conducted on t...Friction stir processing (FSP) is an effective surface-microstructure modification technique using a rotational tool to refine and homogenize microstructure of metallic materials. In this study, FSP was conducted on the surface of the heat-affected zone (HAZ), which is a region exhibiting degraded mechanical properties and shown to have microstructural changes, of butt-welded joints for two high-strength steels with tensile strength grades of 490 MPa and 780 MPa (hereafter HT490 and HT780, respectively). Inhomogeneous mixing of materials derived from weld metals and base metals (BMs) in a stir zone (SZ) produced inhomogeneous distribution of elements and microstructure depending on the set of the advancing side and retreating side in the SZs. The welded joints with FSP for HT490 exhibited higher hardness than that of the BM through whole of the SZ surface (fine polygonal ferrite grains and bainite structure with laths at the Mn-rich and Mn-poor regions, respectively). On the other hand, those for HT780 exhibited the minimum hardness value similar to that of the BM at the SZ surface (a few polygonal ferrite grains in the matrix of martensite laths). Fatigue strength increased by about 35 MPa and 15 MPa in stress amplitude at 107 cycles as fatigue limit due to FSP. Fatigue failure occurred at the BM and the SZ, respectively, in the welded joints modified by FSP for HT490 and HT780, in comparison with the HAZs in the as-welded joints for both grade steels. The difference in fatigue strength increase due to FSP and failure location between the welded joints for HT490 and HT780 can be attributed to the topmost SZ microstructures and their distribution.展开更多
Flow behavior of the Al-Si coated boron steel was investigated with Gleeble-3500,in comparison with the uncoated one.Effect of deformation conditions on the coating integrity was characterized by optical microscopy.Fa...Flow behavior of the Al-Si coated boron steel was investigated with Gleeble-3500,in comparison with the uncoated one.Effect of deformation conditions on the coating integrity was characterized by optical microscopy.Facture surfaces of the coated steels were inspected under SEM.Experimental results indicate that the ultimate tensile strength and ductility of the Al-Si coated boron steel are lower than those of the uncoated steel under test conditions.Extensive cracks occur in the coating after tensile tests;the width and density of cracks are sensitive to the deformation temperatures and strain rates.The bare substrate exposed between the separate coating segments is oxidized.Appearance of the oxide degrades the Al-Si coating adhesion.Remarkable difference between formability of the coating layer and the substrate is confirmed.The formability of the Al-Si coating could be optimized by controlling the phase transformation of the ductile Fe-rich intermetallic compounds within it during the austenization.展开更多

The experimental results show that the existence of undissolved ferrite can increase the contact fatigue life The contact fatigue life can be prolonged with increasing the amounts of undissolved ferrite The grain size can be fined by using subcritical quenching process and the area of phase boundaries can also be greatly increased. The stress relaxation and grain refinement due to occurring of plastic deformation are main reasons for improving the fatigue life. The existence of undissolved ferrite can increase the crack initiation period. Under the experiment conditions, when the amount of undissolved ferrite is 10%, the longest contact fatigue life can be the obtained.展开更多

The ultra-high cycle fatigue properties were measured by ultrason...The ultra-high cycle fatigue behavior of a novel high strength steel with carbide-free bainite/martensite (CFB/M) complex microstructure was studied. The ultra-high cycle fatigue properties were measured by ultrasonic fatigue testing equipment at a frequency of 20 kHz. It is found that there is no horizontal part in the S-N curve and fatigue fracture occurs when the life of specimens exceeds 10^7 cycles. In addition, the origination of fatigue cracks tends to transfer from the surface to interior of specimens as the fatigue cycle exceeds 10^7, and the fatigue crack originations of many specimens are not induced by inclusions, but by some kind of "soft structure". It is shown that the studied high strength steel performs good ultra-high cycle fatigue properties. The ultra-high fatigue mechanism was discussed and it is suggested that specific CFB/M complex microstructure of the studied steel contributes to its superior properties.展开更多

In the present investigation, the fatigue crack growth behaviour of weld metal (WM) and heat affected zone (HAZ) regions of under matched (UM), equal matched (EM) and over matched (OM) joints has been studied. The base material used in this investigation is HSLA-80 steel of weldable grade. Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process has been used to fabricate the butt joints. Centre cracked tension (CCT) specimen has been used to evaluate the fatigue crack growth behaviour of the welded joints. Fatigue crack growth experiments have been conducted using servo hydraulic controlled fatigue testing machine at constant amplitude loading (R=0).A method has been proposed to predict the fatigue life of HSLA steel welds using fracture mechanics approach by incorporating influences of mismatch ratio (MMR) and notch location.

文摘Boron and carbon contents are the main factors influencing the properties of high-boron steel.In this study,experimental samples with different boron-to-carbon ratios(%B/%C)were prepared.The microstructures of the different samples were observed,and their hardness,bending strength,and impact toughness were investigated.Results show that the main microstructures in the investigated high-boron steel samples are the eutectic Fe_(2)B structure with a fishbone shape and the ternary peritectic Fe_(3)(C,B)structure with a chrysanthemum shape.When the boron content is 2.5wt.%and the carbon content is 0.43wt.%(i.e.,%B/%C=5.82),the overall mechanical properties of the alloy are the best.The alloy's hardness,bending strength and impact toughness reach their maximums,which are 67.3 HRC,1,267.36 MPa and 6.19 J·cm^(-2),respectively.The optimized alloy is compared with conventional materials exhibiting excellent wear resistance(namely,high-manganese steel and high-chromium cast iron)through two-body and three-body abrasion tests.The wear resistance of this high-boron steelinvestigated in this work is found to be superior to those of the more common materials.

文摘The mechanical mismatch effect frequently occurs in the dissimilar materials welded joints, thus leading to plastic gradient at the interface between the weld and heat-affected zone(HAZ). In this work, the boron steel and Q235 steel were selected for laser tailor welding,which obtained boron/Q235 steel tailor-welded blanks(TWBs). The method of welding with synchronous thermal field(WSTF) was utilized to eliminate the mismatch effects in TWBs. The WSTF was employed to adjust cooling rates of welded joints, thereby intervening in the solidification behaviors and phase transition of the molten pool. Boron/Q235 steel was welded by laser under conventional and WSTF(300-600 ℃) conditions, respectively. The results show that the microstructure of weld and HAZ(boron) was adequately transitioned to ferrites and pearlites instead of abundant martensite by WSTF. Meanwhile, the discrepancy of microhardness and yield strength between various regions of welded joints was greatly reduced, and the overall plasticity of welded joints was enhanced by WSTF. It is indicated that WSTF can effectively contribute to reducing plastic gradient and achieving mechanical congruity in welded joints by restraining the generation of hardbrittle phase, which could significantly improve the formability of TWBs in subsequent hot stamping.

文摘The effect of pre-corrosion on fatigue behavior of high strength steel 38CrMoAl was investigated with a fatigue test method using the accelerated pre-corrosion specimen in the neutral salt spray environment. The methods of weight-loss and energy dispersive spectrum (EDS) were adopted. The corrosion weight-loss rate was fitted with the test time using power law, and the relationship between the corrosion weight-loss rate and the time was formulated. Moreover, the fatigue behaviors of the steel for different pre-corrosion time were investigated by the axis-direction tensile fatigue test. The fatigue life distribution characteristics of the pre-corrosion specimens were studied using the statistical probability methods, and the mathematical expectations and the standard tolerances of the material fatigue lives after different pre-corrosion time were obtained. It was found that the crack initiation of the high strength steel was accelerated by the preferential corrosion at the local plastic deform areas. The fatigue life obeys the lognormal distribution perfectly. Furthermore, within the common time range of the engineering, the standard tolerances of the logarithm of the fatigue life were independent of the pre-corrosion time.

文摘The mechanism of oxide inclusions in fatigue crack initiation in the very-high cycle fatigue(VHCF)regime was clarified by subjecting bearing steels deoxidized by Al(Al-deoxidized steel)and Si(Si-deoxidized steel)to ultrasonic tension-compression fatigue tests(stress ratio,R=−1)and analyzing the characteristics of the detected inclusions.Results show that the main types of inclusions in Si-and Al-deoxidized steels are silicate and calcium aluminate,respectively.The content of calcium aluminate inclusions larger than 15μm in Si-deoxidized steel is lower than that in Al-deoxidized steel,and the difference observed may be attributed to different inclusion generation processes during melting.Despite differences in their cleanliness and total oxygen contents,the Si-and Al-deoxidized steels show similar VHCF lives.The factors causing fatigue failure in these steels reveal distinct differences.Calcium aluminate inclusions are responsible for the cracks in Al-deoxidized steel.By comparison,most fatigue cracks in Si-deoxidized steel are triggered by the inhomogeneity of a steel matrix,which indicates that the damage mechanisms of the steel matrix can be a critical issue for this type of steel.A minor portion of the cracks in Si-deoxidized steel could be attributed to different types of inclusions.The mechanisms of fatigue fracture caused by calcium aluminate and silicate inclusions were further analyzed.Calcium aluminate inclusions first separate from the steel matrix and then trigger crack generation.Silicate inclusions and the steel matrix are closely combined in a fatigue process;thus,these inclusions have mild effects on the fatigue life of bearing steels.Si/Mn deoxidation is an effective method to produce high-quality bearing steel with a long fatigue life and good liquid steel fluidity.

文摘The objective of this work is to investigate the fatigue behavior of reinforced concrete(RC) beams strengthened with externally bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) and steel plate. An experimental investigation and theoretical analysis were made on the law of deflection development and stiffness degradation, as well as the influence of fatigue load ranges. Test results indicate that the law of three-stage change under fatigue loading is followed by both midspan deflection and permanent deflection, which also have positive correlation with fatigue load amplitude. Fatigue stiffness of composite strengthened beams degrades gradually with the increasing of number of cycles. Based on the experimental results, a theoretical model by effective moment of inertia method is developed for calculating the sectional stiffness of such composite strengthened beams under fatigue loading, and the calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental results.

文摘The metallurgical properties and fatigue life of bearing steel processed by electric furnace (EAF), ladle refining (LF-VD), continous casting (CC) and electroslag remelting (ESR) have been investigated. The main results obtained are as follows: (1) Due to low oxygen content and dispersion inclusions in steel, the fatigue Life of LF-VD-IC or CC is three times as high as that of EAF steel; (2) The oxygen content in steel produced by CC process is about 9.0x10(-6), the carbon segregation (C/C(0)) is from 0.92 to 1.10 and the fatigue life of CC steel is equal to that of ladle refining ingot casting steel; (3) Although the amount of inclusion and oxygen in ESR steel is higher than that of LF-VD-IC or CC steel, the fatigue life of ESR steel is higher than that of the latter because of its fine and well dispersed inclusions.

文摘The fatigue life evaluation of the girth butt weld within the welded cast steel joint was studied based on the extrapolation notch stress method.Firstly,the mesh sensitivity of the finite element model of the welded cast steel joint was analyzed to determine the optimal mesh size.Based on the stress field analysis of the finite element model of the welded cast steel joint at the weld toe and weld root,the sharp model of the extrapolation notch stress method was applied to derive the effective notch stress of the rounded model belonging to the effective notch stress method,in which the key problem is to calculate the extrapolation point C,and the extrapolation point C has an exponential function relationship with the geometric parameters of the welded cast steel joint.By setting different values of geometric parameters,the corresponding value of parameter C is calculated,and then the functional relationship between the extrapolation point C and the geometric parameters can be obtained by the multiple linear regression analysis.Meanwhile,the fatigue life evaluation of the girth butt weld within welded cast steel joints based on the effective notch stress was performed according to the guideline recommended by the IIW(International Institute of Welding).The results indicate that the extrapolation notch stress method can effectively simplify the process of calculating the effective notch stress and accurately evaluate the fatigue life of the girth butt weld within welded cast steel joints.

文摘The fracture behaviour and morphologies of high-strength boron steel were investigated at different temperatures at a constant strain rate of 0.1 s-1 based on isothermal tensile tests. Fracture mechanisms were also analyzed based on the relationship between microstructure transformation and continuous cooling transformation(CCT) curves. It is found that 1) fractures of the investigated steel at high temperatures are dimple fractures; 2) the deformation of high-strength boron steel at high temperatures accelerates diffusion transformations; thus, to obtain full martensite, a higher cooling rate is needed; and 3) the investigated steel has the best plasticity when the deformation temperature is 750 °C.
文摘For elucidating applicability of FSM (field signature method) on detection of fatigue crack initiation and monitoring of its propagation, a series of fatigue tests on steel plate decks (4,625 × 2,250 mm^2) stiffened in lattice-shape by longitudinal and lateral ribs was carried out by using a wheel load traveling test machine. The fatigue crack was observed by visual inspection at the weld toe between the deck plate and the longitudinal rib when the number of wheel load traveling repetition was around 210 thousands. The response of FSM-monitoring, which was the potential difference change between the sensing pins (pair), became clear when the number of the repetition was around 190 thousands. The fatigue crack initiation could be detected by FSM considerably earlier than visual inspection. The fatigue crack propagation such as the direction could also be monitored even though the distance of the sensing pins was extended to 230 mm. On the other hand, the electric field analysis for the virgin situation without any cracks was carried out. The results of analysis indicated that 60 mm length of crack which could not be confirmed by visual inspection could be detected by FSM.

文摘A simplified fatigue-life model is proposed for assessing the seismic inelastic rotational capacity of steel connections.First relations are developed for rigid steel connections under lateral loading.Next this is extended to account for the effects of the welded steel moment frame(WSMF)connections of the so-called pre-Northridge type.The seismic fatigue theory is validated against experimental results.The experiments were conducted under increasing ductility amplitudes until the onset of fiacture.Miner'rule was used to convert the test results to given an equivalent constant amplitude cyclic fatigue life.Satisfactory agreement is obtained when comparing the experimental observations with the theoretical predictions.
文摘Friction stir processing (FSP) is an effective surface-microstructure modification technique using a rotational tool to refine and homogenize microstructure of metallic materials. In this study, FSP was conducted on the surface of the heat-affected zone (HAZ), which is a region exhibiting degraded mechanical properties and shown to have microstructural changes, of butt-welded joints for two high-strength steels with tensile strength grades of 490 MPa and 780 MPa (hereafter HT490 and HT780, respectively). Inhomogeneous mixing of materials derived from weld metals and base metals (BMs) in a stir zone (SZ) produced inhomogeneous distribution of elements and microstructure depending on the set of the advancing side and retreating side in the SZs. The welded joints with FSP for HT490 exhibited higher hardness than that of the BM through whole of the SZ surface (fine polygonal ferrite grains and bainite structure with laths at the Mn-rich and Mn-poor regions, respectively). On the other hand, those for HT780 exhibited the minimum hardness value similar to that of the BM at the SZ surface (a few polygonal ferrite grains in the matrix of martensite laths). Fatigue strength increased by about 35 MPa and 15 MPa in stress amplitude at 107 cycles as fatigue limit due to FSP. Fatigue failure occurred at the BM and the SZ, respectively, in the welded joints modified by FSP for HT490 and HT780, in comparison with the HAZs in the as-welded joints for both grade steels. The difference in fatigue strength increase due to FSP and failure location between the welded joints for HT490 and HT780 can be attributed to the topmost SZ microstructures and their distribution.

文摘Flow behavior of the Al-Si coated boron steel was investigated with Gleeble-3500,in comparison with the uncoated one.Effect of deformation conditions on the coating integrity was characterized by optical microscopy.Facture surfaces of the coated steels were inspected under SEM.Experimental results indicate that the ultimate tensile strength and ductility of the Al-Si coated boron steel are lower than those of the uncoated steel under test conditions.Extensive cracks occur in the coating after tensile tests;the width and density of cracks are sensitive to the deformation temperatures and strain rates.The bare substrate exposed between the separate coating segments is oxidized.Appearance of the oxide degrades the Al-Si coating adhesion.Remarkable difference between formability of the coating layer and the substrate is confirmed.The formability of the Al-Si coating could be optimized by controlling the phase transformation of the ductile Fe-rich intermetallic compounds within it during the austenization.
文摘The effect of undissolved ferrite amount in subcritically quenched 42CrMo steel on contact fatigue properties and failure mechanism were studied. The amount of undissolved ferrite in the steel were 0%,3%,10%,15% and 20% in volume fraction, respectively. The experimental results show that the existence of undissolved ferrite can increase the contact fatigue life The contact fatigue life can be prolonged with increasing the amounts of undissolved ferrite The grain size can be fined by using subcritical quenching process and the area of phase boundaries can also be greatly increased. The stress relaxation and grain refinement due to occurring of plastic deformation are main reasons for improving the fatigue life. The existence of undissolved ferrite can increase the crack initiation period. Under the experiment conditions, when the amount of undissolved ferrite is 10%, the longest contact fatigue life can be the obtained.

文摘The ultra-high cycle fatigue behavior of a novel high strength steel with carbide-free bainite/martensite (CFB/M) complex microstructure was studied. The ultra-high cycle fatigue properties were measured by ultrasonic fatigue testing equipment at a frequency of 20 kHz. It is found that there is no horizontal part in the S-N curve and fatigue fracture occurs when the life of specimens exceeds 10^7 cycles. In addition, the origination of fatigue cracks tends to transfer from the surface to interior of specimens as the fatigue cycle exceeds 10^7, and the fatigue crack originations of many specimens are not induced by inclusions, but by some kind of "soft structure". It is shown that the studied high strength steel performs good ultra-high cycle fatigue properties. The ultra-high fatigue mechanism was discussed and it is suggested that specific CFB/M complex microstructure of the studied steel contributes to its superior properties.
