The fabricated FBGs have been evaluated for thermal and strain response. It has been revealed that the FBG devices with responses in mid-IR range are much more sensitive to temperature than that in near-IR range. To explore the unique cladding mode coupling function, we have investigated the thermal and refractive index sensitivities of LPGs and identified that the coupled cladding modes in mid-IR range are also much more sensitive to temperature and surrounding medium refractive index change. The 45° tilted fiber gratings (45°-TFGs) as polarizing devices in mid-IR have been investigated for their polarization extinction characteristics. As efficient reflection filters and in-cavity polarizers, the mid-IR FBGs and 45°-TFGs have been employed in fiber laser cavity to realize multi-wavelength 2μm Tm-doped CW and mode locked fiber lasers, respectively.展开更多

The effect of thin metal coat on the polymer film enhanced the transfer of heat and shock waves due to rapid thermal expansion and the explosive evaporation of the thin fluid layer. Sixty two percent of deposited heat expended for water enthalpy and 38% for other factors. A power of 8.8 kW was launched at the surface of aluminium. The thermal coupling of 45% further reduced the input energy to the film and the non-adiabatic heat diffusion (i.e., ) was transmitted instantaneously within the metal with very small loss. The temperature at the surface of the film was determined ≈301 K, well below the aluminium melting point. The Biot number showed that the metal as single layer and the whole film as double layer satisfies the thermally thin film (i.e., ). Considering the Newtons’s law of cooling, the overall film heat transfer coefficient was found 3 k W·m-2·K-1 equivalent of 3.3 × 10-3 W·m2·K-1 thermal resistance. The analysis of images indicated a reducing percentage of heat transfer as a function of delay time based on the comparison of volume ratios. A calculated power of ≈3 kW was transmitted from the rear side of the film sufficient to thermalize the surrounding water layer and form vapor bubble.展开更多

In this work, we theoretically investigate the effect of the two-color laser wavelength on the terahertz generation in the air based on a transient photocurrent model. We show that the long wavelength laser excitation can greatly enhance the terahertz amplitude for a given total laser intensity. Furthermore, we utilize a local current model to illustrate the enhancement mechanism. Our analysis shows that the terahertz amplitude is determined by the superposition of contributions from individual ionization events, and for the long wavelength laser excitation, the electron production concentrates in a few ionization events and acquires the larger drift velocities, which results in the stronger terahertz radiation generation. These results will be very helpful for understanding the terahertz generation process and optimizing the terahertz output.展开更多

A metallurgical bond was obtained at the coating/substrate interface. The corrosion potential (Ecorr) of the laser cladded sample was 169 mV positive to that of the untreated ZM5 substrate, while the corrosion current (Icorr) was some one order of magnitude lower. The laser cladded sample, unlike the untreated ZM5 substrate, showed a passive region in the polarization plot. Immersion tests confirmed that the corrosion resistance of the laser cladded ZM5 sample was significantly enhanced in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. The Al-rich phases of AlIr,Mg17Al12,and Al formed in the cladding layer and the rapid solid characteristics were contributed to the improved corrosion behavior of the coating.展开更多

The destructive interference fringes on the angle-resolved ATI spectra, which are closely related to the molecular structure, can be well fitted by a simple predictive formula for any alignment of the molecular axis. By comparing the direct ATI spectra for monochromatic and two-color laser fields, we found that the XUV laser field can both raise the ionization probability and the kinetic energy of the ionized electron, while the infrared(IR) laser field can broaden the energy distribution of the ionized electron. Our results demonstrate that, by using IR+XUV two-color laser fields, the angle-resolved spectra of the direct ATI can image the structural information of molecules without considering the recollision process of the ionized electron.展开更多

It is demonstrated that, in stark contrast to previous studies, the XUV laser may play a significant role in atomic HATI process, and in particular, the XUV laser can accelerate the ionized electron in a quantized way during the collision between the electron and its parent ion. This process cannot be explained by the elassical three-step model Our results indicate that the previously well-established concept that HATI is an elastic recollision process is broken down.展开更多

The effect was independently discovered by M. Perelman and the author of this paper. Six papers on the PeTa effect have been published in this journal over the past nine years. They are devoted to the development of PeTa models to explain the following phenomena: IR radiation from cold surfaces, cavitation luminescence/sonoluminescence (CL/SL), laser-induced bubble luminescence (LIBL), and vapor bubble luminescence (VBL) in underwater geysers. This paper describes the sources of PeTa radiation in the Earth’s atmosphere. These sources of infrared radiation have been investigated by numerous research groups, but their interpretation either does not exist at all, or it is erroneous. The following phenomena are specifically considered: PeTa radiation during the formation of clouds and fog;a pulse laser based on the PeTa radiation;condensation explosions as sources of PaTa radiation;measurement of the concentration of water vapor in the atmosphere using PeTa radiation;atmospheric scintillation of infrared radiation in the atmosphere due to the PeTa effect;PeTa radiation as a source of comfort for the igloo;the influence of PeTa radiation on living organisms;PeTa radiation due to characteristics of tropical storms;PeTa radiation as a possible precursor to earthquakes. The problem of global warming, which worries everyone, as it turns out, is also associated with the PeTa effect.展开更多
