From New York, Rome, Barcelone, Paris and Bordeaux, the same question demands specific answers: can we live and appreciate urban and metropolitan symbols and emblems together or on their own? That is the question for towns and the future of their citizens. Confrontation of urban sites and observed places with the plural points of view of their establishment, their designers and urban skills, and their inhabitants and citizens. Especially buried high explosive (HE)charges lead to new and originally not investigated loading conditions during their detonation. It is theinteraction of the embedding geomaterial with the detonation products that leads to a strongly increasedglobal impulse transfer on the vehicle with following high accelerations on the vehicle occupant. Thispaper presents a comprehensive approach for the analysis of occupant loading. In a first step, we presentthe so called ring technology which allows the experimental determination of the locally resolvedspecific impulse distribution on a vehicle floor due to buried charge detonation. A complementarymethod is the use of scaled model vehicles that allows the determination of global vehicle loading parameterssuch as jump height or vehicle accelerations. Both techniques were used to study the influenceof burial conditions as burial depth, embedding material or water content on the impulse transfer ontothe vehicle. These experimental data are used to validate material models for the embedding sand orgravel materials. This validated material description is the basis for numerical simulation models used inthe assessment of occupant safety. In the last step, we present a simulation model for a generic militaryvehicle including a Hybrid III occupant dummy that is used for the determination of biomechanicaloccupant exposure levels. Typical occupant loadings are evaluated and correlated with burial conditionsas HE mass and global momentum transfer.展开更多

This instructional device is believed to enhance the teaching-learning process and would also help address the scarcity of instructional equipment in the school and in the country. Descriptive method of research was employed to come up with the design of the simulator based on the course content of basic digital electronics subject. Acceptability of the improvised simulator based on standards set in this study was?gathered from the experts as respondents using a self-made questionnaire. The data were treated using average weighted mean utilizing parametric scales with verbal descriptions. Findings revealed that the improvised logic gates simulator is highly acceptable in terms of its cost and availability of components,?design and construction, operations, and troubleshooting features. It is concluded that the improvised logic gates simulator is at par in terms of standards on instructional devices based on the evaluation results of experts and is therefore recommended to be used in basic digital electronics instruction. The simulator is an innovative answer and an alternate solution to the scarcity of instructional materials and devices at Caraga State University Cabadbaran Campus.展开更多

Sampling procedure was carried out monthly from July 2007 to July 2008. In this study longitudinal diameter aperture (orifice or opercula diameter) of4118 individuals as well as dry weight and ash free dry weight of 141 barnacles were measured. Barnacle population density decreased in all three stations during autumn and winter. Barnacle density in Khazarabad were significantly higher than the other two stations (P 〉 0/05). In this study, for dry weight and ash free dry weight maximum 247 and 122 mg and minimum 0/5 and 0/25 mg were obtained respectively. Emergence of a young cohort in March 2008, indicates the reproduction season and larval recruitment at this time. Also the frequency of the larval recruitment from April 2004 until mid-summer had increased. Opercula diameter of B. improvisus correlated with dry weight (R2 = 0/87, n = 115) and ash free dry weight (R2= 0/77, n = 115). In addition, two equations for correlation of opercula diameter with dry weight (W = 0/49 L2/6, Re= 14) and ash free dry weight (W = 0/16 L2/81, Re = 18/8) for this species were calculated.展开更多

Insufficient monitoring of tracheal cuff pressure has also been documented for intensive care unit nurses. Measurements of cuff pressure are beneficial when used in management of air leakage around an endotracheal tube, and can be easily obtained with the aid of a personalized and simple technique performed using materials that are readily available in all hospitals. Other investigators have previously demonstrated the usefulness of employing an improvised technique. We considered that possible disadvantages are similar to those encountered when using standardized equipment. With our improvised technique, we seek to promote among the nursing staff the determination of the TTCP in intubated patients to reduce the risk of related medical complications.展开更多
