The impact of environmental regulations on international competitiveness of textile industry in China

A greater focus of environmental protection is directed toward environmental regulations in China. This paper focuses on environmental regulations and their impact on textile industry. The academic circle does not reach a consensus on the relationship between environmental regulations and international competitiveness. Some hold the view that environmental regulations lower international competitiveness while others think that environmental regulations improve both environment and economic performance. This paper aims to analyze the impact of the environmental regulations on the international competitiveness of textile industry in China. This study starts with theories relative to this subject; the second part, based on the impact mechanism of environmental regulations on competitiveness, analyzes the environmental impact on textile from the perspective of cost and market. The conceptual exploration comes to the conclusion that environmental regulations make a negative impact on the international competitiveness on the cost side and improve it by means ofinnovation and product differentiation on market side; the third part gives time series evidence to examine the impact. In this part the Pearson Correlation Analysis is conducted based on the data of China's textile industry of the period from 1991 to 2005. It turns out to prove that the negative environmental impact on cost side exceeds the positive environmental impact on market side, namely, environmental regulations deteriorate the international competitiveness in textile industry as a whole during the inspected period.

Coexistence of Chances and Challenges-Impact of China's Entry into WTO on China Textile Industry

The main content of this article is the analysis of chances and challenges after China enters WTO. It also points out how to use competition to seek countermeasures of the contemporary shortcomings of the entry. Policies should be adjusted, multinational management should be improved, the cultivation of high-tier people should be advancing, and at the same time the new orientation of the ongoing international economic readjustment should be grasped.

What China and India can Iearn from each other in the information industry

China’s information industry,including its hardware manufacturing and infrastructure,is larger in size than India's,but India is stronger in software R&D and IT competence. This paper presents an overview of the information industry in both countries,and reveals the challenges posed by lack of innovation,over-reliance on foreign markets and uneven software and hardware development. Comparative studies in this field provide reference for both countries to improve their industrial structure and pursues solid growth.

A Comparative Study on the Labor Productivity of Provincial Textile Industry Based on DEA in China

Making use of the DEA-based method of quadruplicate decomposition of labor productivity, the paper analyzes the influence of labor productivity of provincial textile industry in China, caused by the effect of technical efficiency, pure technical progress, changes of scale efficiency of capital per labor and of capital intensity from the year of 2002 to 2005. Its results show that the improvement of provincial textile industry labor productivity has mainly resulted from technical progress since 2003. Meanwhile, labor productivity of underdeveloped provinces has been growing faster than that of developed ones owing to technology diffusion. And then, the above-mentioned improvement has originated from the enhancement of capital deepening and technology efficiency. In addition, scale return of capital per labor appeared to decrease during the period from 2004 to 2005.

World Economy and the Export Dependence of China's Textile Industry

In this paper,the current status of export dependence of China's textile industry and affecting factors are evaluated.A cointegration test for world economy and China's export of textile and apparel is conducted which suggests that a long-term cointegration relationship exists between the growth rate of the world economy and that of China's export of textiles and apparel.The world economy will enter a period of low-speed growth,and the growth rate of China's textile and apparel exports will slow down accordingly.On the other hand,China's domestic expenditures on textiles and apparel are expected to maintain robust growth.According to the trends of exports and domestic demand,the export dependence of China's textile industry will go down with fluctuations.The conclusion is useful to evaluating the performance of the textile industry and making relevant policies.

Producing Spinnable Regenerated Cellulosic Fibers from Palm Fibers for Use in the Textile Industry

The textile industry is considered a major industry worldwide, and some countries use available domestic raw materials for textile manufacturing, being one of many other economic resources. Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of States paying great attention to the cultivation of palm trees due to their great importance, which are an indispensable traditional food for a large portion of the population. However, huge quantities of palm’s by-products, especially palm fibers, are constantly wasted, although they can be effectively used to produce textiles of particular end uses such as ropes. This study, therefore, sought to explore the potential of extracting cellulose from palm fibers for use in the textile industry. The study has utilized the experimental approach by applying alkaline to palm fibers so as to extract inherent cellulose. It has also applied mechanical processing to turn cellulose into fibers. Fibers’ physical properties (color, diameter, length), chemical properties (ratios of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin), and mechanical properties (tensile strength and elongation of fibers before and after treatment) were all studied. The study has proved that the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of regenerated cellulose fibers extracted from palm fibers are similar to those of other natural fibers such as bamboo and linen, and thus can be used in the textile industry. The study also compared different types of palm trees to determine the one that contains the largest concentration of cellulose. However, it was found that sugar palm fibers contain the highest cellulose concentration of 44% and therefore, it was selected for the application of the study’s theory. The study recommends making use of palm fiber in manufacturing textiles for particular end uses such as ropes, fillings and filters, as well as applying the theory of the study to other plants that have not yet been manipulated.

Research on the Development of Jiangsu Textile Industry Based on put-Output Analysis Method

Based on the latest 2012 input-output data of Jiangsu Province,this paper uses MATLAB-assisted calculation to quantitatively analyze the industrial ripple effect and industry type of textile manufacturing industry in Jiangsu Province.The research results show that the textile manufacturing industry in Jiangsu Province is a type III final demand industrial sector;the current value added of textile manufacturing in Jiangsu Province is low;the textile manufacturing industry's influence coefficient e;and induction coefficient are higher than the social average.

An analysis of environmental risks in Sichuan Province to relocate the textile industry from east China

The trend of transferring eastern textile industry to western regions in China is increasingly obvious.As for Sichuan Province,it is a chance to promote economic development and upgrade the textile industry through the incident compared with the other western regions.This paper analyzes the risk to environment in Sichuan Province when accepting the transfer and puts forwards relevant measures to this point.

The study of relationship between textile and garment market,industry cluster and regional economy development

China＇s textile and garment markets grown up with the development of reform and opening-up, they＇re well adapted to the national policy and economic environment in each period, and formed a large-scale development, played a positive role in promoting China＇s economy development. This paper has a research on the textile and garment market, industry cluster and regional economy, recognize textile professional market and regional economy as the main research object, industrial cluster as the intermediary variable. Establish textile and garment market, industrial cluster, regional economy as the main trunk of structural equation model and carry on the empirical analysis. From the empirical analysis, this paper find that the coefficient of textile and garment market effecting on industrial cluster is 0.91, and industrial cluster on regional economy is 0.93, that means results verify hypothesis relationships between the three of them Finally, according to each path coefficients, providing relevant suggestions for the Shanghai area development of textile and garment market, related industries cluster and regional economy development.

The Influence of RMB Appreciation on Chinese Textile Industry

Textile industry is the biggest industry that gains foreign exchange through export in China, and the dependence rate of either export or import is high. RMB continuous appreciation brings China both chance and challenge. On the one hand, it reduces the import cost of raw materials and equipments; on the other hand, it weakens the price advantage of textile industry in China; at the same time, it promotes the transformation and the integration of textile business enterprise.

Employment of Waste from the Textile Industry for the Production of Nanocomposites Aiming at the Generation of Thermal Shrinkable Films and the Non-Formation of Microplastics

With the increase of incorrectly discarded materials in the environment, including clothes, the need for recycling and reusing them becomes one of the alternatives to work around this problem, following the law of the 3 Rs. However, these polymeric materials which are deposited in the marine environment and land generate microplastics, due to their degradation/fragmentation due to the action of the weather, in these regions, including being carried by the air and transported from various regions. With the aim of reducing the impact of this inappropriate disposal and obtaining a material that does not generate microplastics, this study used waste from the textile industry, which would be unusable, and a biodegradable polymer. The tissue residues were submitted to acid hydrolysis with sulfuric acid, in order to weaken the interactions between the cellulose fibrils and promote a better dispersion of the latter when processed with the polymer, during the extrusion process, generating biodegradable polymeric nanocomposites. The results showed that the samples submitted to acid hydrolysis presented a higher degree of crystallinity and a greater number of interactions and lower mobility of hydrogen atoms. In addition, the samples treated for a longer time showed a small release of fibrils, suggesting that this treatment can help in the production of nanocomposites during their extrusion.
