The aim of this study was to evaluate total Co content in alluvial soils of Delta in Egypt using the delayed neturen activation analysis technique (DNAA). The two prominent gamma ray lines at 1173 2 and 1332 5 keV was efficiently used for 60 Co determination. Co content in non polluted soil samples ranged between 13 12 to 23 20 ppm Co with an average of 18 16±4.38 ppm. Cobalt content in moderately polluted soils ranged between 26 5 to 30 00 ppm with an average of 28 3±1.3 ppm. The highest Co levels (ranged from 36 to 64 69 ppm with an average of 51 9±9.5); were observed in soil samples collected from, either highly polluted agricultural soils due to prolonged irrigation with industrial wastewater or surface soil samples from industrial sites.展开更多
Thallium(Tl) is a typical toxic heavy metal,with higher toxicity to mammals than Hg,Cd,and Pb.Accurate assessments of its environmental exposure and flux are central to effective management and control of Tl pollution...Thallium(Tl) is a typical toxic heavy metal,with higher toxicity to mammals than Hg,Cd,and Pb.Accurate assessments of its environmental exposure and flux are central to effective management and control of Tl pollution.This paper first presents in detail the environmental exposure and flux of Tl by typical industrial activities utilizing Tl-bearing pyrite minerals to produce sulfuric acid.For this purpose,sequential extraction and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry(ICP-MS) were used to investigate total content and geo-chemical partitioning of Tl in raw pyrite ores and solid roasting wastes,thereby uncovering Tl distribution and transformation during the production process.Results showed that some portions of Tl bearing in the minerals went into vapor,which transferred Tl into different processes;and some portions of Tl went into water during the gas washing procedure,leaving some other portions remained in the solid slags.More importantly,detailed investigation revealed that 40% of Tl in the pyrite minerals was active,among which 25% of Tl originally in the pyrite minerals was washed into water during gas cleaning process and 15% of active Tl retained in the slags.The latter portion of active Tl could be possibly transferred to the soil or water with the slag deposal or being reused;and 60% of Tl remained relatively stable in the residual phase.展开更多

Estimating the impacts on PM_(2.5)pollution and CO_(2)emissions by human activities in different urban regions is important for developing efficient policies.In early 2020,China implemented a lockdown policy to contai...Estimating the impacts on PM_(2.5)pollution and CO_(2)emissions by human activities in different urban regions is important for developing efficient policies.In early 2020,China implemented a lockdown policy to contain the spread of COVID-19,resulting in a significant reduction of human activities.This event presents a convenient opportunity to study the impact of human activities in the transportation and industrial sectors on air pollution.Here,we investigate the variations in air quality attributed to the COVID-19 lockdown policy in the megacities of China by combining in-situ environmental and meteorological datasets,the Suomi-NPP/VIIRS and the CO_(2)emissions from the Carbon Monitor project.Our study shows that PM_(2.5)concentrations in the spring of 2020 decreased by 41.87%in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)and 43.30%in the Pearl River Delta(PRD),respectively,owing to the significant shutdown of traffic and manufacturing industries.However,PM_(2.5)concentrations in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH)region only decreased by 2.01%because the energy and steel industries were not fully paused.In addition,unfavorable weather conditions contributed to further increases in the PM_(2.5)concentration.Furthermore,CO_(2)concentrations were not significantly affected in China during the short-term emission reduction,despite a 19.52%reduction in CO_(2)emissions compared to the same period in 2019.Our results suggest that concerted efforts from different emission sectors and effective long-term emission reduction strategies are necessary to control air pollution and CO_(2)emissions.展开更多

Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays a key role in the global carbon cycle.In this study,we used statistical and geostatistical methods to characterize and compare the spatial heterogeneity of SOC in soils of Jiangsu Provi...Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays a key role in the global carbon cycle.In this study,we used statistical and geostatistical methods to characterize and compare the spatial heterogeneity of SOC in soils of Jiangsu Province,China,and investigate the factors that influence it,such as topography,soil type,and land use.Our study was based on 24 186 soil samples obtained from the surface soil layer (0-0.2 m) and covering the entire area of the province.Interpolated values of SOC density in the surface layer,obtained by kriging based on a spherical model,ranged between 3.25 and 32.43 kg m 3.The highest SOC densities tended to occur in the Taihu Plain,Lixia River Plain,along the Yangtze River,and in high-elevation hilly areas such as those in northern and southwest Jiangsu,while the lowest values were found in the coastal plain.Elevation,slope,soil type,and land use type significantly affected SOC densities.Steeper slope tended to result in SOC decline.Correlation between elevation and SOC densities was positive in the hill areas but negative in the low plain areas,probably due to the effect of different land cover types,temperature,and soil fertility.High SOC densities were usually found in limestone and paddy soils and low densities in coastal saline soils and alluvial soils,indicating that high clay and silt contents in the soils could lead to an increase,and high sand content to a decrease in the accumulation of SOC.SOC densities were sensitive to land use and usually increased in towns,woodland,paddy land,and shallow water areas,which were strongly affected by industrial and human activities,covered with highly productive vegetation,or subject to long-term use of organic fertilizers or flooding conditions.展开更多

To this end, multivariate statistical analysis(MA) and hydrochemical analysis were introduced in this work. The results indicate that the canonical discriminant function with 7 parameters was established using the discriminant analysis(DA) method, which can afford 100% correct assignation according to the 3 different clusters(good water(GW), poor water(PW), and very poor water(VPW)) obtained from cluster analysis(CA). According to factor analysis(FA), 8 factors were extracted from 25 hydrochemical elements and account for 80.897% of the total data variance, suggesting that groundwater with higher concentrations of sodium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, and sulfate in southeastern study area are mainly affected by the natural process; the higher level of arsenic and chromium in groundwater extracted from northwestern part of study area are derived by industrial activities; domestic and agriculture sewage have important contribution to copper, iron, iodine, and phosphate in the northern study area. Therefore, this work can help identify the main controlling factor of groundwater quality in North China plain so as to make better and more informed decisions about how to achieve groundwater resources sustainable development.展开更多

Cross-border e-commerce(CBEC)significantly stimulates foreign trade development and the flow of goods and services.This study,using Chinese city-level data and a multiperiod difference-in-differences model based on CB...Cross-border e-commerce(CBEC)significantly stimulates foreign trade development and the flow of goods and services.This study,using Chinese city-level data and a multiperiod difference-in-differences model based on CBEC comprehensive pilot zones,explores the impact of CBEC reform on urban service industry entrepreneurship.The results show that CBEC reform increased entrepreneurial activity,and this is confirmed by robustness tests.The mechanisms driving this efect include the attraction of foreign direct investment,improved information infrastructure,and talent development.Regional analysis reveals stronger effects in central,western,and noncoastal cities,and industry analysis highlights public and consumer services.Spatial heterogeneity shows that the reform's impact diminished with distance from pilot zones,with potential inhibitory efects in remote areas.This study demonstrates how CBEC reform can stimulate entrepreneurship and foster economicgrowth.展开更多
