Painting Ink Landscape Panorama on the Old Wall

To maintain internal walls of the residential houses and prolong service life of the walls, the paper introduced the efficiency of ink painting in wall maintenance and also in enriching cultural connotations of the residential spaces. The paper explored a practical approach for people participating in cultural and artistic activities based on the author's experience, which would contribute to the inheritance and development of outstanding traditional cultures and arts.

Wang Chuan’s Abstract Painting: A Contemporary Expression of Chinese Zen Ink Painting

“Zen ink painting”is the art school formed under the confluence of the sectarian“Zen”and the Chinese traditional art form“ink painting”after Buddhism was introduced to China.It emphasizes the belief that Buddhism practitioners could reveal their inner feelings with the aid of ink painting,which was so popular that it not only flourished in China but also spread to and became prevalent in Japan,the Korean Peninsula,and the rest of East Asia.In contemporary times,Zen ink painting is being rejuvenated with new vitality by numerous artists,of whom Wang Chuan is a leading figure.With the method of qualitative research,we conducted an image analysis of Wang Chuan’s works in the 21st century and thoroughly analyzed the creative process and display of his artistic expressions to provide a glimpse of the contemporary form and inner logic of Chinese Zen ink art.

GPU-based 3D model rendering of chinese ink painting

In computer graphics, non-photorealistic rendering(NPR) is an important branch. NPR technology is to achieve a variety of artistic effects through the computer, such as oil painting, cartoon, watercolor and other effects. The purpose of this paper is to automatically convert the 3D model into two-dimensional Chinese ink painting effect on graphics processing unit(GPU), and has improved the traditional algorithm that has some lacks of rendering effect. The algorithm is divided into two major steps: contour line rendering, and interior rendering. For contour line rendering, on the basis of the traditional extraction of contours, this paper adds self-bold, particle diffusion and other steps. For interior rendering, on the basis of the traditional layered rendering of diffuse lighting, two methods are added. The first method is based on the mean filtering, and the filter kernel is stratified by the principle of percentage-closer soft shadows(PCSS). The second method is Noise texture mapping, to obtain an ink diffusion effect.

Visual Nationalism and Communal Rituals:Park Saengkwang’s Art and Korean Shamanism

This paper analyzes Park Saengkwang(1904-1985)’s artwork,created in the 1980s and influenced by Musok,Korean Shamanism.It explores Musok’s thematic significance in the development of his distinctive style and the inspiration behind his stylistic changes.Park’s ink paintings are done in bold and intense colors and create an intriguing,mysterious mood,inviting the viewers to the primordial visual experience and exposing its viewers to Korean Shamanism,which has endured the perception that fluctuated between positive and negative throughout Korean history.The practice became a fitting cultural emblem associated with the national identity during the 1970s and 1980s,and thus became a way for Park to explicitly articulate his cultural roots,creating a visual connotation of“Korean.”His art,portraying gut,Korean shamanistic communal rituals,could be conceived as a pictorial rendering of the idea of kibok,praying for good fortune,and served as a pujŏk,talisman paper,that possesses magical healing and protecting power.By striving to overcome the stylistic conflicts between Korean and Japanese,or traditional and Western,Park’s art accomplished the visual rhetoric of national aesthetic sensitivity that built on the communal thoughts and cultural experience of shamanism in the modern history of Korea.
