Chinese non-English majors are a large group of English learners.In the process of English pronunciation acquisition,issues such as incomplete phonological knowledge,transfer of mother tongue,and overgeneralization,lead to confusion of phonemes and stress,misunderstanding of syllable structure,and errors of assimilation,drop,and epenthesis.The accuracy of English pronunciation can only be improved by knowing both English and Chinese phonological systems,strengthening the teaching of English phonological knowledge,and adopting various phonological training activities. 展开更多

In this thesis,the author has tape-recorded the dialogues in an English Comer of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology.After transcribing those tape records into literal materials,the author uses Error Analysis theory(proposed by Corder) to analyze the materials.Then the author finds that the errors in oral form were far more complex than the writen form and the students are tending to make errors in oral expression.At the end of the thesis,the author figures that in the practice of the English teaching,the teacher should emphasize on the students' ability in oral English whereas the students should pay more attention to the studying of spoken English,thus to create a sound environment of English study. 展开更多

Therefore, the paper attempts to study the ways of improving English majors' grammatical competence. It is concluded that reform of grammar test should be carried out to guide grammar teaching and learning, error analysis should be conducted to decide what to teach, and an output-oriented approach should be employed to meet the requirements of leamers' future profession. 展开更多

English is one of the most common languages in the world,and it has become one of the most important subjects in various countries.The native languages of China and Thailand are not English,and both countries are located in Asia and have many similarities in geographical location and cultural background.The Ministries of Education of the two countries have successively put forward relevant policies to promote the development of English education in the country.The implementation of these policies has promoted the development of college English course teaching in the country.These factors determine that the two countries have similarities in college English course teaching for Non-English majors.However,there are differences in teaching mode and teaching staff in the two countries because of their different national conditions,which make many differences,exist in college English course teaching for non-English majors in the two countries.During the author’s career as an exchange student in Chiang Mai University,she experienced the difference of college English course teaching for non-English majors in Thai universities,so the author did some researches on the basis of the understanding of English course teaching in Thai universities.Therefore,this thesis takes Sino-Thai college English course teaching for non-English majors as the research object—takes Jiujiang University and Chiang Mai University as example,and analyses their present situation from the aspects of the development and evolution,the teaching mode,and teaching staff of college English course teaching for non-English majors.On this basis,the author makes a comparative analysis of the English course teaching for non-English majors in two selected universities,then find their respective advantages and disadvantages,and put forward some suggestions on the development of Sino-Thai college English course teaching. 展开更多

This article develops an empirical an investigation on the errors in compositions written by students who are studying in Luzhou Vocational and Technical College (LVTC) and Luzhou Medical College (LMC) and contrasts them in order to trace the source of the errors. It finally turns out to be that there exists strong correlation between students' academic quality and the number of errors of various types. Compared with ordinary university students, vocational and technical college (VTC) students' interlanguage (IL) errors seem to be more rudimental, and more negative-transferring, most of which are influenced by their mother tongue (MT)-Chinese. VTC students' general error in writing is misspelling, while university students ' major error lies in collocation. In this thesis, some practical enlightenment about learning and teaching English writing are also proposed. 展开更多
