The paper aims to analyze the way in which international news is rather shaped by journalists and mass-media per se and affected by national level factors than by real world events or the activities of political actors. There is a lack of empirical theories and studies regarding external news. This study’s purpose is to fill in this void,at least partly,by means of comparative analysis of international conflicts news coverage in Romanian press.International news coverage plays an important role in building a foreign country’s image and translating foreign cultures in their countries of origin.Mass-media should have a significant influence on external news perception, given the fact that the national audience is usually distant towards international events and relies upon national media coverage. As the majority of mass-media are still focused on national audience, these will accentuate the conflicts perspective with the risk of answering national stereotypes.Numerous empirical studies show that the conflict perspective is dominant, with an accent on“domestic”news and strong accent on elite political actors. This leads to external news“decontextualization”.It claims that during crises and times of conflict, the journalists have moved the emphasis on citizens and individual actors, increasing the international events news coverage with soft news.Approximate 1,000 articles regarding the Ukraine,Turkey, and Catalonia conflicts were analyzed during research and the results showed that the attention given by the mass-media had been strongly influenced by national policies. 展开更多

Due to the historical reasons, the global press has long been dominated by the Western community along with the other institutions such as media outlets, government agencies as well as research entities,in spite of the rising tendency presented by the new power bloc such as BRICS.It is important to differentiate the inspiring reporting characteristics in covering major events like this forum from those that still rely on the old reporting pattern and ideological mindset.Based on the previous scholarship on China’s business communication and its relevance to the country’s international communication in an ever-complicated international press environment, this study aims at working out the frame feature of the international business reporting on the Belt and Road Initiative Forum that took place in mid May,2017.By offering a one-on-one analysis on the most representative piece respectively from Financial Times,Reuters,Nikkei Asian Review and Al-Jazeera,the study figured out the journalistic frame style of those media reporting on the event and on China’s initiative itself. Therefore, the study aims to map out the reporting strategies for the similar emerging market countries such as BRICS accordingly. 展开更多

During the Nationalist Era, China dealt with its relatively weaker position in the global geopolitics of news communication by forging and managing strategic collaborations with the world's leading news agencies. This study analyzes the case of the bilateral contractual relationship between Reuters and the Guomindang (GMD) government's official news agency, the Central News Agency (CNA). By doing so, the article reveals that in the course of developing useful cooperation with the leading international news agencies to open up inter-institutional and interpersonal channels and networks for disseminating the GMD government's official news and viewpoints abroad, the GMD government and CNA were also confronted with a growing necessity to manage and control protracted contentious, disputes, and even conflicts arising from the party-state's persistent attempts to assert news communication sovereignty. The study also highlights the vital role of Zhao Minheng (1904-61)--a US-educated Chinese journalist in the employment of Reuters--as middleman in the CNA-Reuters relationship. Zhao's career provides us with an important means to analyze CNA's international news-agency relations from transnational and transcultural perspectives. 展开更多
