Protection of Human Rights Under China's Legal System——An interview with Prof. Wan Exiang

Wan Exiang, professor of the Law School of Wuhan University, doubles as justice and vice-president of China's Supreme People's Court. He is also vice-chairman of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, one of the democratic parties in China, and member of the Tenth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's highest consulting body. Prof. Wan is reputed in China and abroad for his achievements in study of international human rights laws and also as the founder of the Wuhan University Center for Protection of the Rights of the Underprivileged in Society, the first of its kind ever set up in the country. Since its founding a decade ago, the center has won a fame for the quality legal services it renders to needy people in their tens of thousands, including disabled people, juveniles, women and workers laid off from state-owned enterprises in the course of China's economic restructuring. While a press favorite at home, the center has received coverage by the NHK TV of Japan, Washington Post of the United States, Phoenix TV of Hong Kong and numerous other media outside the Chinese mainland. Following is an interview with Prof. Wan Exiang, in which he discussed how human rights are protected under China's legal system and in what ways the system should be improved.

Music therapy combined with motivational interviewing

BACKGROUND Percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)is one of the main treatment methods for myocardial infarction(MI).Despite its positive effects,patients often experience different degrees of anxiety and depression after the intervention.Therefore,effectively changing the emotional state of patients with MI during PCI remains a focus of clinical research.AIM To assess the effect of music therapy and motivational interviewing in young and middle-aged patients with anxiety and depression after PCI.METHODS We collected data from January 2022 to December 2023 from 86 young and middle-aged patients with MI after PCI.They were divided into observation and control groups according to the random throwing method.The observation group consisted of 43 patients undergoing music therapy and motivational interviewing,and the control group(43 cases)underwent music therapy and conventional communication.The two groups were then compared on mood status[Chinese Brief Mood Status Scale(POMS)],coping methods[Medical Coping Methods Questionnaire(MCMQ)Chinese version],and healthy lifestyle behaviors[Heart Health Self-Efficacy and Self-Management(HH-SESM)scale].RESULTS Two weeks post-intervention,the observation group had lower POMS scores,improved MCMQ scores,and higher HH-SESM scores than the control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The combined intervention of music therapy and motivational interviewing for young and middle-aged patients with anxiety and depression after MI can effectively regulate their mood,reduce anxiety and depression symptoms,and stimulate patients to actively face their condition.It also encourages the formation of healthy behavioral habits.

The Impact of Street Interviews on Chinese EFL Undergraduates’Intercultural Communicative Competence

The study adopts Byram’s Intercultural Communicative Competence(ICC)model as the theoretical framework,and structured interviews were conducted to explore the impact of street interviews on the participants’ICC.Analysis results revealed street interviews help students acquire knowledge in intercultural attitudes,intercultural knowledge,skills of discovery and interaction,and critical cultural awareness,aligning with the four components of Byram’s ICC model.Meanwhile,they have positive perceptions of street interviews.Therefore,street interviews have a positive effect on the development of participants’ICC.

目的:设计改造一套基于就医服务需求的医院导向标识系统。方法:以行业标准为依据,按照“统一样式、精准指引、服务患者”原则对现有医院标识系统进行改造。从就医服务需求侧出发,利用就诊路线热力图筛选和识别重点就诊路线,结合实地堪访结果,设计针对性的路线指引标识,并利用半结构式访谈评价改造效果。结果:本研究共改造室外导向标识设施设备点位1117个,室内导向标识设施设备点位38个,增设热点路线指引设施15套。统一了诊区标识的字体字号和颜色,以及科普宣传栏的形象设计。改造前后的问卷访谈结果显示门诊标识系统便捷性评分提升1.46分,准确性评分提升1.87分,可及性评分提升0.86分。结论:从就医服务需求侧入手,开展医院导向标识系统设计改造能够有效发现就医指引和标识设置上的薄弱环节,显著提高患者就医效率和医院就医服务质量。
