A speed sensorless vector control system of induction motor with estimated rotor speed and rotor flux using a new reduced order extended Kalman filter is proposed. With this method, two rotor flux components are selected as the state variables, and the rotor speed as an estimated parameter is regarded as an augmented state variable. The algorithm with reduced order decreases the computational complexity and makes the proposed estimator feasible to be implemented in real time. Developments in the Power Electronic circuitry have revolutionised the induction motor industry leading to the developments in various control strategies and circuits for motor control. Direct Torque Control (DTC) is one of the excellent control strategies preferred by industries for controlling the torque and flux in an induction machine. The main drawback of DTC is the presence of torque ripple which is slightly more than the acceptable limit. There are various parameters that introduce ripples in the electromagnetic torque, one of them being the type of inverter circuit. There are various types of inverter circuits available and the effect of each of them in the production of torque ripple is different. This work is an attempt to identify the influence of various multilevel inverter circuits on the torque ripple level and to propose the best inverter circuit. The influence of multilevel diode clamped inverter and cascaded H bridge inverter circuits on torque ripple minimization, is analysed using simulation studies for identifying the most suitable multilevel inverter circuit which gives minimum torque ripple. The results obtained from the simulation studies are validated by hardware implementation on 0.75 kW induction motor. 展开更多

This technique involves transfo... In the context of induction motor control, there are various control strategies used to separately control torque and flux. One common approach is known as Field-Oriented Control (FOC). This technique involves transforming the three-phase currents and voltages into a rotating reference frame, commonly referred to as the “dq” frame. In this frame, the torque/speed and flux components are decoupled, allowing for independent control, by doing so, the motor’s speed can be regulated accurately and maintain a constant flux which is crucial to ensure optimal motor performance and efficiency. The research focused on studying and simulating a field-oriented control system using fuzzy control techniques for an induction motor. The aim was to address the issue of parameter variations, particularly the change in rotor resistance during motor operation, which causes the control system to deviate from the desired direction. This deviation implies to an increase in the magnetic flux value, specifically the flux component on the q-axis. By employing fuzzy logic techniques to regulate flux vector’s components in the dq frame, this problem was successfully resolved, ensuring that the magnetic flux value remains within the nominal limits. To enhance the control system’s performance, response speed, and efficiency of the motor, sliding mode controllers were implemented to regulate the current in the inner loop. The simulation results demonstrated the proficiency of the proposed methodology. 展开更多

Diode clamped multi-level inverter (DCMLI) has a wide application prospect in high-voltage and adjustable speed drive systems due to its low stress on switching devices, low harmonic output, and simple structure. However, the problem of complexity of selecting vectors and capacitor voltage unbalance needs to be solved when the algorithm of direct torque control (DTC) is implemented on DCMLI. In this paper, a fuzzy DTC system of an induction machine fed by a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter is proposed. After introducing fuzzy logic, optimal selecting switching state is realized by applying various strategies which can distinguish the grade of the errors of stator flux linkage, torque, the neutral-point potential, and the position of stator flux linkage. Consequently, the neutral-point potential unbalance, the dr/dr of output voltage and the switching loss are restrained effectively, and desirable dynamic and steady-state performances of induction machines can be obtained for the DTC scheme. A design method of the fuzzy controller is introduced in detail, and the relevant simulation and experimental results have verified the feasibility of the proposed control algorithm. 展开更多

Vector control schemes have recently been used to drive linear induction motors(LIM)in high-performance applications.This trend promotes the development of precise and efficient control schemes for individual motors.This research aims to present a novel framework for speed and thrust force control of LIM using space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM)inverters.The framework under consideration is developed in four stages.To begin,MATLAB Simulink was used to develop a detailed mathematical and electromechanical dynamicmodel.The research presents a modified SVPWM inverter control scheme.By tuning the proportional-integral(PI)controller with a transfer function,optimized values for the PI controller are derived.All the subsystems mentioned above are integrated to create a robust simulation of the LIM’s precise speed and thrust force control scheme.The reference speed values were chosen to evaluate the performance of the respective system,and the developed system’s response was verified using various data sets.For the low-speed range,a reference value of 10m/s is used,while a reference value of 100 m/s is used for the high-speed range.The speed output response indicates that themotor reached reference speed in amatter of seconds,as the delay time is between 8 and 10 s.The maximum amplitude of thrust achieved is less than 400N,demonstrating the controller’s capability to control a high-speed LIM with minimal thrust ripple.Due to the controlled speed range,the developed system is highly recommended for low-speed and high-speed and heavy-duty traction applications. 展开更多

Its hardware system based on dual CPU(microcomputer 80C196KC and DSP TMS320F2407) is implemented. The fundamental mathematics equations of induction motor in the general synchronously rotating reference frame ( M T frame) used for vector control are achieved by coordinate transformation. Rotor flux equation and torque equation are deduced. According to these equations, an induction motor mathematical model and rotor flux observer model are built separately. The rotor flux field oriented vector control method is implemented based on these models in system software, some of the simulation results with Matab/Simulink are given. The simulation results show that the vector control system for EV induction motor drive system has better static and dynamic performance, and the rotor flux field oriented vector control method was practically verified. 展开更多

The design procedures of the fuzzy neural controller and the teaching controller are described. The parameters of the membership function are regulated by an on-line learning algorithm. The speed responses of the system under the condition, where the target functions are chosen as I qs and ω, are analyzed. The system responses with the variant of parameter moment of inertial J, viscous coefficients B and torque constant K tare also analyzed. In some field-oriented algorithms, the integrator of observers and the dead-time effect bring in system errors during the estimation of field position. In this paper, a saturated feedback integrator is used, and the dead-time effect is compen- sated by current positive feedback. Experiments were carried out on the hardware platform of MCK2407, with chip TMS320LF2407 from TI Company. The results show that the prooosed method is simole and effective, and the accuracy of field position is improved. 展开更多

Under phase(s) loss, the machine currents can be optimally controlled to satisfy certain optimization criteria. In this paper, a vector control scheme to a five-phase induction machine is introduced to ensure equal phase currents and minimum torque ripples under a phase open circuit. The controller idea can be extended to any number of phases with any number of open phases. The fundamental dq components of the stator voltage are obtained using only two PI controllers for the fundamental sequence plane, as in conventional vector control of three-phase machines. Based on steady state model, a simple expression is derived to estimate the required dq voltage components of other sequence planes to ensure equal stator phase currents and minimum torque ripple. A five-phase machine is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to ensure controller validity. 展开更多

They are more suitable to be used as electrical dynamometers to provide dynamic load for bench test systems. But, the speed and torque of induction motors are not easy to be controlled accurately. In this work, an electrical dynamometer based on the induction motor is proposed. In order to get better control performance of torque and speed of induction motor, an improved direct torque control method(DTC) is also developed based on the space vector modulation(SVM) technique. The performance of the proposed dynamometer system is validated in the Matlab/Simulink platform. The simulation results show that the new dynamometer has good torque and stator flux response. The 3Φinduction motor is a broadly used electric machine in industrial applications,which plays a vital role in industries because of having plenty of beneficial impacts like low cost and easiness but the problems like decrease in motor speed due to load,high consumption of current and high ripple occurrence of ripples have reduced its preferences.The ultimate objective of this study is to control change in motor speed due to load variations.An improved Trans Z Source Inverter(ΓZSI)with a clamping diode is employed to maintain constant input voltage,reduce ripples and voltage overshoot.To operate induction motor at rated speed,different controllers are used.The conventional Proportional-Inte-gral(PI)controller suffers from high settling time and maximum peak overshoot.To overcome these limitations,Fractional Order Proportional Integral Derivative(FOPID)controller optimized by Gray Wolf Optimization(GWO)technique is employed to provide better performance by eliminating maximum peak overshoot pro-blems.The proposed speed controller provides good dynamic response and controls the induction motor more effectively.The complete setup is implemented in MATLAB Simulation to verify the simulation results.The proposed approach provides optimal performance with high torque and speed along with less steady state error. 展开更多

This article presents the direct torque control (DTC) strategy for the doubly fed induction motor (DFIM) connected to two three-level voltage source inverters (3LVSIs) with neutral point clamped (NPC) structure. This control method allows to reduce the torque and flux ripples as well as to optimize the total harmonic distortion (THD) of motor currents. The use of 3LVSI increases the number of generated voltage, which allows improving the quality of its waveform and thus improves the DTC strategy. The system modeling and control are implemented in Matlab/Simulink environment. The analysis of simulation results shows the better performances of this control, especially in terms of torque and flux behavior, compared to conventional DTC. 展开更多

The multi-phase motor drive system with multiple H-bridge power supply has high fault tolerance,which is widely used in aerospace,electric vehicle,ship integrated power system and other fields.In this paper,a fault-tolerant control strategy based on decoupling control and stator current compensation is proposed for the propulsion system of five-phase PMSM with independent neutrals.Firstly,the mathematical model of PMSM is established by using vector space decoupling method;Secondly,a stator current compensation method is adopted to carry out fault-tolerant control after the motor has single-phase and two-phase open-circuit faults and the fault-tolerant control system based on decoupling control is established;Finally,the decoupling control model and the fault-tolerant control of stator current compensation are verified by the simulation and experiment.The simulation and experiment results show that the method can reduce the torque ripple caused by the stator winding open-circuit fault,and the operation performance of the motor under fault condition is significantly improved. 展开更多

The presence of an integrator in a reference model of a rotor flux-based model reference adaptive system(RF-MRAS)and non-linearity of the inverter in the output voltage degrade the speed response of the sensorless operation of the electric drive system in terms of DC drift,initial value issues,and inaccurate voltage acquisition.To improve the speed response,a compensating voltage component is supplemented by an amending integrator.The compensating voltage is a coalition of drift and offset voltages,and reduces DC drift and initial value issues.During low-speed operation,inaccurate voltage acquisition distorts the stator voltage critically,and it becomes considerable when the stator voltage of the machine is low.Implementing a three-level neutral point clamped inverter in speed-sensorless decoupled control of an induction motor improves the performance of the drive with superior quality of inverter output voltage.Further,the performance of the induction motor drive is improved by replacing the proportional-integral(PI)controller in the adaption mechanism of RF-MRAS with an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)controller.A prototype model of the three-level neutral point clamped inverter(3L-NPC)-fed induction motor drive is fabricated in a laboratory,and its performance for a RF-MRAS,modified RFMRAS,and modified RFMRAS using ANFIS are compared using different benchmark tests. 展开更多

This paper investigates a Luenberger flux observer with speed adaptation for a direct field oriented control of an induction motor. An improved method of speed estimation that operates on the principle of speed adaptive flux and current observer has been proposed. An observer is basically an estimator that uses a plant model and a feedback loop with measured stator voltage and current. Simulation results show that the proposed direct field oriented control with the proposed observer provides good performance dynamic characteristics. The induction motor is fed by an indirect power electronics converter. This indirect converter is controlled by a sliding mode technique that enables minimization of harmonics introduced by the line converter, as well as the control of the power factor and DC-link voltage. The robustness of the overall system is studied using simulation for different operating modes and varied parameters. 展开更多

In this paper, a novel modified neural algorithm has been identified for the online estimation of rotor resistance. Neural based estimators are now receiving active con- sideration as they have a number of advantages over conventional techniques. The training algorithm of the neural network determines its learning speed, stability, weight convergence, accuracy of estimation, speed of tracking and ease of implementation. In this paper, the neural estimator has been studied with conventional and proposed learning algorithms. The sensitivity of the rotor resistance change has been tested for a wide range of variation from -50% to +50% on the stability of the drive system with and without estimator. It is quiet appealing to settle with optimal estimation time and error for the viable realization. The study is conducted extensively for estimation and tracking. The proposed learning algorithm is found to exhibit good estimation and tracking capabilities.
