Hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S) not only presents significant environmental concerns but also induces severe corrosion in industrial equipment, even at low concentrations.Among various technologies, the selective oxidation of hydrogen sulfide(SOH_(2)S) to elemental sulfur(S) has emerged as a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution.Due to its unique properties, iron oxide has been extensively investigated as a catalyst for SOH_(2)S;however,rapid deactivation has remained a significant drawback. The causes of iron oxide-based catalysts deactivation mechanisms in SOH_(2)S,including sulfur or sulfate deposition, the transformation of iron species, sintering and excessive oxygen vacancy formation, and active site loss, are thoroughly examined in this review.By focusing on the deactivation mechanisms, this review aims to provide valuable insights into enhancing the stability and efficiency of iron-based catalysts for SOH_(2)S. 展开更多

Capturing and utilizing CO_(2)from the production process is the key to solving the excessive CO_(2)emission problem. CO_(2)hydrogenation with green hydrogen to produce olefins is an effective and promising way to utilize CO_(2)and produce valuable chemicals. The olefins can be produced by CO_(2)hydrogenation through two routes, i.e., CO_(2)-FTS (carbon dioxide Fischer- Tropsch synthesis) and MeOH (methanol-mediated), among which CO_(2)-FTS has significant advantages over MeOH in practical applications due to its relatively high CO_(2)conversion and low energy consumption potentials. However, the CO_(2)-FTS faces challenges of difficult CO_(2)activation and low olefins selectivity. Iron-based catalysts are promising for CO_(2)-FTS due to their dual functionality of catalyzing RWGS and CO-FTS reactions. This review summarizes the recent progress on iron-based catalysts for CO_(2)hydrogenation via the FTS route and analyzes the catalyst optimization from the perspectives of additives, active sites, and reaction mechanisms. Furthermore, we also outline principles and challenges for rational design of high-performance CO_(2)-FTS catalysts. 展开更多

Nitrogen oxide(NO_(x))pollutants emitted from coal combustion are attracting growing public concern. While the traditional technologies of reducing NO_(x) were mainly focused on terminal treatment, and the research on source treatment is limited. This paper proposes a new coal combustion strategy that significantly reduces NO_(x) emissions during coal combustion. This strategy has two important advantages in reducing NO_(x) emissions.First,by introducing iron-based catalyst at the source, which will catalyze the conversion of coke nitrogen to volatile nitrogen during the pyrolysis process, thereby greatly reducing the coke nitrogen content. The second is de-NO_(x) process by a redox reaction between NO_(x) and reducing agents(coke,HCN,NH_(3),etc.)that occurred during coke combustion.Compared to direct combustion of coal, coke prepared by adding iron-based catalyst has 46.1% reduction in NO_(x) emissions. To determine the effect of iron-based additives on de-NO_(x) performance, demineralized coal(de-coal)was prepared to eliminate the effect of iron-based minerals in coal ash.The effects of iron compounds, additive dosages, and combustion temperatures on de-NO_(x) efficiency are systematically studied. The results revealed that the NO_(x) emission of the coke generated by pyrolysis of de-coal loaded with 3%(mass)Fe_(2)O_(3) decreases to 27.3% at combustion temperature of 900℃.Two main reasons for lower NO_(x) emissions were deduced:(1)During the catalytic coal pyrolysis stage, the nitrogen content in the coke decreases with the release of volatile nitrogen.(2)Part of the NO_(x) emitted during the coke combustion was converted into N_(2) for the catalytic effect of the Fe-based catalysts. It is of great practical value and scientific significance to the comprehensive treatment and the clean utilization process of coal. 展开更多

A series of iron-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) catalysts incorporated with Al2O3 binder were prepared by the combination of co-precipitation and spray drying technology. The catalyst samples were characterized by using N2 physical adsorption, temperature-programmed reduction/desorption (TPR/TPD) and MSssbauer effect spectroscopy (MES) methods. The characterization results indicated that the BET surface area increases with increasing Al2O3 content and passes through a maximum at the Al2O3/Fe ratio of 10/100 (weight basis). After the point, it decreases with further increase in Al2O3 content. The incorporation of Al2O3 binder was found to weaken the surface basicity and suppress the reduction and carburization of iron-based catalysts probably due to the strong K-Al2O3 and Fe-Al2O3 interactions. Furthermore, the H2 adsorption ability of the catalysts is enhanced with increasing Al2O3 content. The FTS performances of the catalysts were tested in a slurry-phase continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR) under the reaction conditions of 260 ℃, 1.5 MPa, 1000 h^-1 and molar ratio of H2/CO 0.67 for 200 h. The results showed that the addition of small amounts of Al2O3 affects the activity of iron-based catalysts to a little extent. However, with further increase of Al2O3 content, the FTS activity and water gas shift reaction (WGS) activity are decreased severely. The addition of appropriate Al2O3 do not affect the product selectivity, but the catalysts incorporated with large amounts of Al2O3 have higher selectivity for light hydrocarbons and lower selectivity for heavy hydrocarbons. 展开更多

The preparation of the iron-based catalysts promoted by cobalt with a small amount of copper and aluminum for the high temperature shift reaction (HTS) with different sequences of adding catalyst raw materials during neutralization and precipitation was investigated. XRD, BET and particle size distribution (PSD) were used to characterize the prepared catalysts. It was found that the catalyst crystals were all γ-Fe2O3, and the intermediate of the catalyst after aging was Fe3O4. The crystallographic form of the catalyst and its intermediate was not affected by the addition sequence in the neutralization and precipitation process. The results showed that the specific surface area and the particle size of the catalysts depended on the addition sequence to the mother liquor. Cobalt with a small amount of copper and aluminum could increase the specific surface area and decrease the particle size of catalysts. 展开更多

Catalyst II produces higher molecular weight polyethylene (PE) and broadened polydispersities relative to catalyst I under analogous conditions and all polymers are linear. The kinetic profiles with iron catalysts showed a smooth pattern during both rate build-up and rate lowering, which are different from the metallocene catalysts. The polymerization activity increases with Al/Fe value and an optimum temperature range at 40 similar to 45 degreesC was observed. The regulation of the burning rate pressure exponent for the ammonium perchlorate/hydroxylterminated polybutadiene/aluminum(AP/HTPB/Al)composite propellants under high pressures is a crucial step for its application in high-pressure solid rocket motors. In this work, the combustion characteristics of AP/HTPB/Al composite propellants containing ferrocene-based catalysts were investigated, including the burning rate, thermal behavior, the local heat transfer, and temperature profile in the range of 7-28 MPa.The results showed that the exponent breaks were still observed in the propellants after the addition of positive catalysts(Ce-Fc-MOF),the burning rate inhibitor((Ferrocenylmethyl)trimethylammonium bromide,Fc Br)and the mixture of Fc Br/catocene(GFP).However,the characteristic pressure has increased, and the exponent decreased from 1.14 to 0.66,0.55,and 0.48 when the addition of Ce-FcMOF,Fc Br and Fc Br/GFP in the propellants. In addition, the temperature in the first decomposition stage was increased by 7.50℃ and 11.40℃ for the AP/Fc Br mixture and the AP/Fc Br/GFP mixture, respectively, compared to the pure AP.On the other hand, the temperature in the second decomposition stage decreased by 48.30℃ and 81.70℃ for AP/Fc Br and AP/Fc Br/GFP mixtures, respectively. It was also found that Fc Br might generate ammonia to cover the AP surface. In this case,a reaction between the methyl in Fc Br and perchloric acid caused more ammonia to appear at the AP surface, resulting in the suppression of ammonia desorption. In addition, the coarse AP particles on the quenched surface were of a concave shape relative to the binder matrix under low and high pressures when the catalysts were added. In the process, the decline at the AP/HTPB interface was only exhibited in the propellant with the addition of Ce-Fc-MOF.The ratio of the gas-phase temperature gradient of the propellants containing catalysts was reduced significantly below and above the characteristic pressure, rather than 3.6 times of the difference in the blank propellant.Overall, the obtained results demonstrated that the pressure exponent could be effectively regulated and controlled by adjusting the propellant local heat and mass transfer under high and low pressures. 展开更多

The removal of organic sulfur through catalytic hydrolysis is a significant area of research in the field of desulfurization. This review provides an overview of recent advancements in catalytic hydrolysis technology of organic sulfur, including the activity, stability, and atmosphere effects of hydrolysis catalysts. The emphasis is on strategies for enhancing hydrolysis activity and anti-oxygen poisoning property of catalysts.Surface modification, metal doping and nitrogen doping have been found to improve the activity of catalysts.Alkaline components modification is the most commonly used method, the formation of oxygen vacancies through metal doping and creation of nitrogen basic sites through nitrogen doping also contribute to the hydrolysis of organic sulfur. The strategies for anti-oxygen poisoning are discussed in a systematic manner. The structural regulation of catalysts is beneficial for the desorption and diffusion of hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S),thereby effectively inhibiting its oxidation.Nitrogen doping and the addition of electronic promoters such as transition metals can protect active sites and decrease the number of active oxygen species. These methods have been proven to enhance the anti-poisoning performance of catalysts.Additionally, this article summarizes how different atmospheres affect the activity of hydrolysis catalysts. The objective of this review is to pave the way for the development of efficient, stable and widely used catalysts for organic sulfur hydrolysis. 展开更多

Tuning Strong Metal-support Interactions(SMSI)is a key strategy to obtain highly active catalysts, but conventional methods usually enable TiO_(x) encapsulation of noble metal components to minimize the exposure of noble metals. This study demonstrates a catalyst preparation method to modulate a weak encapsulation of Pt metal nanoparticles(NPs)with the supported TiO_(2),achieving the moderate suppression of SMSI effects. The introduction of silica inhibits this encapsulation,as reflected in the characterization results such as XPS and HRTEM,while the Ti^(4+) to Ti^(3+) conversion due to SMSI can still be found on the support surface.Furthermore, the hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde(CAL)as a probe reaction revealed that once this encapsulation behavior was suppressed, the adsorption capacity of the catalyst for small molecules like H_(2) and CO was enhanced, which thereby improved the catalytic activity and facilitated the hydrogenation of CAL.Meanwhile, the introduction of SiO_(2) also changed the surface structure of the catalyst, which inhibited the occurrence of the acetal reaction and improved the conversion efficiency of C=O and C=C hydrogenation.Systematic manipulation of SMSI formation and its consequence on the performance in catalytic hydrogenation reactions are discussed. 展开更多

Cu catalysts, known for their unparalleled catalytic capabilities due to their unique electronic structure, have faced inherent challenges in maintaining long-term effectiveness under harsh hydrogenation conditions. Here,we demonstrate a molybdenum-mediated redispersion behavior of Cu under hightemperature oxidation conditions. The oxidized Cu nanoparticles with rich metal-support interfaces tend to dissolve into the MoO_(3)support upon heating to 600℃,which facilitates the subsequent regeneration in a reducing atmosphere.A similar redispersion phenomenon is observed for Cu nanoparticles supported on Zn O-modified MoO_(3).The modification of ZnO significantly improves the performance of the Cu catalyst for CO_(2)hydrogenation to methanol, with the high activity being well maintained after four repeated oxidation-reduction cycles. In situ spectroscopic and theoretical analyses suggest that the interaction involved in the formation of the copper molybdate-like compound is the driving force for the redispersion of Cu.This method is applicable to various Mo-based oxide supports, offering a practical strategy for the regeneration of sintered Cu particles in hydrogenation applications. 展开更多

Atom-level modulation of the coordination environment for single-atom catalysts(SACs)is considered as an effective strategy for elevating the catalytic performance. For the MNxsite, breaking the symmetrical geometry and charge distribution by introducing relatively weak electronegative atoms into the first/second shell is an efficient way,but it remains challenging for elucidating the underlying mechanism of interaction.Herein,a practical strategy was reported to rationally design single cobalt atoms coordinated with both phosphorus and nitrogen atoms in a hierarchically porous carbon derived from metal-organic frameworks.X-ray absorption spectrum reveals that atomically dispersed Co sites are coordinated with four N atoms in the first shell and varying numbers of P atoms in the second shell(denoted as Co-N/P-C).The prepared catalyst exhibits excellent oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)activity as well as zinc-air battery performance. The introduction of P atoms in the Co-SACs weakens the interaction between Co and N,significantly promoting the adsorption process of ^(*)OOH,resulting in the acceleration of reaction kinetics and reduction of thermodynamic barrier, responsible for the increased intrinsic activity. Our discovery provides insights into an ultimate design of single-atom catalysts with adjustable electrocatalytic activities for efficient electrochemical energy conversion. 展开更多

The selective aqueous-phase glycerol hydrogenolysis is a promising reaction to produce commercially useful 1,3-propanediol(1,3-PDO).The Pt-WOx bifunctional catalyst can catalyse the glycerol hydrogenol-ysis but the catalyst deactivation via sintering, metal leaching, and coking can predominantly occur in the aqueous phase reaction. In this work, the effect of reaction temperature, pressure and second promoter(Cu,Fe,Rh,Mn,Re,Ru,Ir,Sn,B,and P)on catalytic performance and deactivation behaviour of Pt/WOx/-Al2O3 was investigated. When doped with Rh,Mn,Re,Ru,Ir,B,and P,the second promoter boosts catalytic activity by promoting great dispersion of Pt on support and increasing Pt surface area. The increased Bronsted acid sites lead to selective synthesis of 1,3-PDO than 1,2-propanediol(1,2-PDO).The characterization studies of fresh and spent catalysts reveal that the main cause of catalyst deactivation is the Pt sintering,as interpreted based on XRD,CO chemisorption, and TEM analyses. The Pt sintering is affected depending on the second promoter that can either or reduce the interaction between Pt,WO_(χ)/γ and Al_(2)O_(3).As an electron acceptor of Pt in Pt/WO_(χ)/γ-Al_(2)O_(3),Re and Mn as second promoters resulted in increased Pt^(2+) on the catalytic surface, which strengthens the contact between Pt andγ-Al_(2)O_(3) and WO_(χ),resulting in a decrease in Pt sintering. The metal leaching and coking are not affected by the presence of second promoter. The catalyst modified with a second promoter possesses improved catalytic activity and 1,3-PDO production, however the stability continues to remain a challenge. The present work unrav-elled the determining parameters of catalytic activity and deactivation, thus providing a promising pro-tocol toward effective catalysts for glycerol hydrogenolysis. 展开更多

Developing bimetallic catalysts is an effective strategy for enhancing the activity and selectivity of electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reactions, where understanding the structure-activity relationship is essential for catalyst design.Herein,we prepared two Cu-Ag bimetallic catalysts with Ag nanoparticles attached to the top or the bottom of Cu nanowires. When tested in a flow cell, the Cu-Ag catalyst with Ag nanoparticles on the bottom achieved a faradaic efficiency of 54%for ethylene production, much higher than the catalyst with Ag nanoparticles on the top.The catalysts were further studied in the H-cell and zero-gap MEA cell.It was found that placing the two metals in the intensified reaction zone is crucial to triggering the tandem reaction of bimetallic catalysts. Our work elucidates the structure-activity relationship of bimetallic catalysts for CO_(2) reduction and demonstrates the importance of considering both catalyst structures and cell characteristics to achieve high activity and selectivity. 展开更多
