A Case Study of Periodical Terminologies’Mis-translations in History of Chinese Journalism by Ko Kung-chen under Analysis-Synthesis Translation Mode

From the perspective of analysis-synthesis translation mode,this paper discusses the translator’s responsibility and the translator’s role in the translation of historiography,based on the case of Ko Kung-chen’s History of Chinese Journalism.Missionary J.S.Roberts believed that translation is the logical combination of two processes of analysis and synthesis.The analysis process is characterized by understanding,emphasizing accurate understanding and professional analysis of the source text,while the synthesis process focuses on the transformation of language and culture.The two processes are dependent,forming the whole process of translation altogether.As the indisputable subject of translation,the translator should assume his own subjective responsibility in the two processes.The translator should be responsible for the fact and professional academics in the analysis process,and language and culture and translation itself in the synthesis process,playing the role of a reviewer,disseminator and translator to ensure that the translation text would be correct,accurate and professional so as to realize the value of himself and translation.

Fair-News: Digital Journalism Model to Prevent Information Pollution and Manipulation

As digital data circulation increases,information pollution and manipulation in journalism have become more prevalent.In this study,a new digital journalism model is designed to contribute to the solution of the main current problems,such as information pollution,manipulation,and account-ability in digital journalism.The model uses blockchain technology due to its transparency,immutability,and traceability.However,it is tough to provide the mechanisms necessary for journalism,such as updating one piece of information,instantly updating all other information affected by the updated information,establishing logical relationships between news,making quick comparisons,sorting and indexing news,and keeping the changing informa-tion about the news in the system,with the blockchain data structure.For this reason,in our study,we have developed a new data structure that provides both the immutability,transparency and traceability properties of the blockchain and can support the communication mechanisms necessary for journalism.The functionality of our proposed data structure is demonstrated in terms of communication mechanisms such as mutability,context,consistency,and reliability through example scenarios.Additionally,our data structure is compared with the data structure of blockchain technology in terms of time,space,and maintenance costs.Accordingly,while the model size increases linearly in blockchain,the model’s size remains approximately constant since the structure we developed is data-independent.In this way,maintenance costs are reduced.Since our model also has an indexing mechanism,it reduces the linear time search complexity to logarithmic time.As a result,the data structure we developed is found to have higher performance than blockchain in the journalism concept.In future studies,it is planned to test all aspects of the model with a pilot application,eliminate its shortcomings,and develop a holistic approach to the root causes of the problems in the journalism focus.

本文以美国加州伯克利分校的传播学慕课课程Journalism for Social Change为研究对象,采用观察法的研究方法,从教育心理学的视角,以教学目标设置为切入点,从教学内容、教学形式、互动与反馈等角度进行分析,并进一步整理和分析其教学设计方法中可资借鉴的内容,为传播学慕课课程教学设计提供相关建议。

Comic Relief, Telling Unwanted Truth to Power and Ethical Journalism: Satire Writing in Print Media in Lesotho

Satire writing in news comes in with a lot of humour yet and a lot of truth telling.In Lesotho newspapers,Lesotho Times has the Scrutator column and The Post has Muckracker.These are the columns that play the role of providing commentary on any issue trending in the news,more like the editorial but go further to tell the truth but in a manner that lacks seriousness due to the name calling and banter.This study sought to establish the real reason behind satire writing from the point of view of the journalists,newspaper editors,journalism scholars,and consumers of news in Lesotho.The study also sought to explore satire writing in newspaper news in relation to journalism ethics as name calling and labeling is one of the characteristics of satire writing in newspapers.Information was gathered,presented,and analysed qualitatively.Face to face and telephone interviews were carried out with print journalists and their editors as well as with journalism lecturers,journalism students,and newspaper reading citizens.The findings reflect that satire writing is understood differently by society with others regarding it as controversial and others liking it for truth telling.News producers and scholars appreciate it for the license it provides to tell truth outside the straight jacket strictures of political correctness guiding news production.

The Use of the Internet and the Practice of Journalism in Bahrain

This paper seeks to present the most important results of a field study on the role of using the Internet in enhancing the journalistic assignments in the Kingdom of Bahrain,in accelerating the production and dissemination of news,and in creating new opportunities for communication and interaction with the public.The study also examines Bahraini journalists’perceptions of the changes in their journalistic practice and the positive and negative effects of the Internet on the journalist’s job.In addition,the study examines the possible changes that the Internet makes in relation to the values and ethics of the press.The results showed that the use of the Internet in the press had a positive impact on journalistic practice.Bahraini journalists tend to adopt and use it in their day-to-day work,although they are cautious about the unreliability of news and information on the Internet,their awareness of increased accountability before the public,and their belief in the negative role that the Internet can play in sacrificing accuracy for speed.

Joseph Heco and the Origin of Japanese Journalism

Joseph Heco,with the original Japanese name of Hamada Hikozo,played an active role in the diplomatic,economic,trade,and cultural interactions between the United States and Japan in the 1850s and 1860s.Being rescued from a shipwreck by an American freighter and taken to San Francisco in the 1850s,Heco had the chance to experience the advanced industrial civilization.After returning to Japan,he followed the example of the U.S.newspapers to start the first Japanese newspaper Kaigai Shimbun(Overseas News),introducing Western ideas into Japan and enabling Japanese people under the rule of the Edo bakufu/shogunate to learn about the great changes taking place outside the island.In the light of the historical background of the United States forcing Japan to open up,this paper expounds on Joseph Heco’s life experience and Kaigai Shimbun,the newspaper he founded,aiming to explain how Heco,as the“father of Japanese journalism”,promoted the development of Japanese newspaper industry.

Revise and Statistical Analysis of the Alien Press Errors in History of Chinese Journalism by Ko Kung-chen

Since Ko Kung-chen published History of Chinese Journalism with Shanghai Commercial Press in 1927,this work had been published by different publishing houses and reprinted many times amounting to 18 editions.There are many historical narrative and fact errors of alien press in this work,and up to date these errors are not revised.This essay aims to revise the omitted errors of alien press in History of Chinese Journalism systematically besides those corrected by other works or essays,and carry on the statistical analysis of the errors to probe new approach for the study of alien periodicals and press in China.

Generative AI,represented by GPT(Generative Pre-trained Transformer),is now leading the technological revolution and is reconstructing the journalism and communication industries'ecosystems because of its powerful generative capacity and diverse range of outputs.While GPT is busy revolutionizing and innovating the production of news content,working patterns,and operation modes,it has also given rise to ethical concerns in regard to news authenticity,data security,humanistic values,and other related aspects.Therefore,it is imperative to initiate strategies and approaches,such as establishing a mechanism for verifying information authenticity,enhancing data security and privacy regulations,and instituting an ethical supervision and governance framework for AI,in order to facilitate the systematic advancement of AI-based news production while reinstating public trust.

Recontextualizing Constructive Journalism in Contemporary China:A Comparative and Intercultural Perspective

By adopting a scholarly perspective on comparative journalism and intercultural communication,the present study delineates the conceptual common ground in terms of defining constructive journalism(CJ)and lays out the theoretical foundation for further discussion of this practical recontextualization in China’s social and cultural contexts.The indigenous tradition of"public opinion surveillance"(POS)in China is traced out in comparison with the experiment of CJ and its derivatives like public/civic journalism in Western countries.In spite of different news philosophies and media eco-systems,promoting social reform and serving the people or the public constitute the common goals for both Chinese and Western journalists and media professionals.Notably,exploring the theoretical validity and practical applications of CJ and POS would provide a feasible entry point to the cross-cultural dialogue between the East and the West about news media innovation.

新世纪国际新闻学研究的现状——以Journalism:Theory,Practice&Criticism(2000-2014)为分析样本

本文采用内容分析的方法,对国际新闻学研究权威期刊Journalism: Theory, Practice & Criticism创刊以来的所有学术论文进行文献分析,着重展现国际上新闻学研究的镜像,包括研究的作者群像,研究的主题分布,研究所采取的方法等。通过定量研究发现,在研究主题方面,新闻学理论、新闻产制、新闻工作者、媒介宏观效果等主题的研究数量最多。在研究方法方面,社会科学的研究方法占据了主导地位,其中采用较多的是内容分析法、个案分析法和文本分析法。随着新媒体日益成为传播研究"显学",本文还对《新闻学》上的新媒体研究进行了梳理,从新媒体对传统媒体、对新闻工作者、对新闻伦理的影响这三个角度进行了解析。

Journal Club教学法用于临床药学专业硕士研究生理论教学实践

目的探讨Journal Club教学法在临床药学专业硕士研究生理论教学中的应用效果。方法选取重庆医科大学2022年的2020级(4名)、2021级(6名)临床药学专业硕士研究生为研究对象。课前,2个年级的学生分别以小组为单位,围绕与“临床药物治疗学前沿”授课内容相关的2个临床用药问题,通过设定关键词、检索文献、分析评价、证据分级,制订最优用药方案;课中以幻灯片形式分享经典文献,并对最优用药方案进行循证药学证据分析。采用匿名问卷调查法统计对该教学法8个条目完全赞同、基本同意及否定的人数,并计算占比;授课教师对学生撰写的综述进行评分(90~100分、80~89分、70~79分、60~69分分别为优、良、中、及格);统计学生通过本轮教学的论文发表情况。结果2020级、2021级分别发放调查问卷4份、6份,均全部回收,有效回收率均为100.00%;对所有调查项目均完全赞同或基本同意的分别有29人次、47人次。期末考试成绩为优、良、中的,2020级分别有2名(50.00%)、1名(25.00%)、1名(25.00%),优良率为75.00%;2021级分别有2名(33.33%)、3名(50.00%)、1名(16.67%),优良率为83.33%。2021级学生有1篇综述发表在科学引文索引(SCI)期刊上。结论Journal Club教学法有助于提高学生的文献查阅能力和英文阅读能力,可调动自主学习的积极性,增强独立思考能力和科研创新意识。
