Full term secondary abdominal pregnancy in a Jehovah’s witness: A case report

We describe a rare case of full term abdominal pregnancy in a Jehovah’s witness patient;she underwent laparotomy successfully without blood transfusion. Despite their belief regarding transfusion, Jehovah’s witnesses may not necessarily have a higher morbidity or mortality rate following a complex obstetric surgery as seen in the present case.

Review of abdominal solid organ transplantation in Jehovah’s Witness patients

Managing blood loss in Jehovah’s Witness(JW)patients is a matter of controversy.These patients will not accept transfusions of red blood cells,white blood cells,platelets or plasma,even if that is required to save their lives.There are many discussions regarding safety of operating upon JW patients in general surgical procedures,but in solid organ transplantation there is a paucity of literature on this subject.We have reviewed individual case reports and small series documenting on experience with solid organ transplantation in JW patients and the strategies adopted to facilitate that.It is clear that such patients require the surgical team to dedicate more time to ensure their safe management.This begins with a thorough,detailed consent of exactly which products and interventions they will or will not accept.Planning must begin weeks before surgery if possible.Each case must be assessed individually,but provided they meet fitness requirements,there are no absolute contraindications to abdominal organ transplantation.

A Witness's Account of Changes in Tibet's Human Rights Conditions

After riots that occurred on March 14, 2008 in Lhasa, Tibet, the China Central Television Station broadcast a documentary film titled Tibet＇s Past shot years ago by the Central Newsreel ＆ Documentary Film Studio about the miserable life of serfs under Tibet＇s feudal serf system before a democratic reform was carried out in the region. The documentary stunned many people. It helps people see through the reactionary and corrupt nature of the Dalai clique.

安氏Ⅲ类错牙合的W角、ANB角和Wits值相关性分析

目的:探讨W角、ANB角和Wits值对安氏Ⅲ类错牙合畸形患者颌骨矢状关系评价的可靠性。方法:选取38例恒牙列期安氏Ⅲ类错牙合畸形患者的X线头颅定位侧位片,计算其W角,Wits值,ANB值及其变异系数,并对三者进行相关性分析。结果:三项测量指标变异程度不同,W角,Wits值和ANB值的变异系数分别为0.05、0.40、0.65,且三者间均存在相关性。结论:W角,Wits值和ANB角均可作为评价安氏Ⅲ类患者颌骨矢状向关系的指标,但W角可能更具有可靠性。

Successful bowel surgery at hemoglobin 2 g/dL without blood transfusion

We were unable to find reports in the published medical literature of any cases of bowel surgery being successfully performed at such a low hemoglobin level,without blood transfusion or blood products pre or post-surgery,with the patient’s uncomplicated recovery.This study is about such a case.A patient presenting with severegastrointestinal bleeding was diagnosed with enteric fever and multiple ileal ulcers.He had an extremely low hemoglobin level(2 g/dL) and mild renal and hepatic impairment.He was immediately admitted for right hemicolectomy under general anesthesia though he refused transfusion of blood or blood products prior to,during,or after surgery on religious grounds(Jehovah’ s Witnesses).After the surgery and having survived these potentially life-threatening circumstances,he left the hospital without major complications.In such circumstances,lives may be saved by prompt clinical decision-making,collaboration and swift surgical intervention coupled with the immediate consultation and input of the patient and family.

新疆石河子地区65岁以上1230人老年痴呆流行病学调查

目的:随着人口老龄化加快,老年痴呆的患病率呈逐年增加趋势,故进行了老年痴呆的流行病学调查。方法:1999-01/2001-12调查新疆石河子地区65岁以上的离退休老人,了解其一般情况,并用改良长谷川简易智能量表进行智能测定,少数人还进行了韦氏成人智力量表测定其言语智商。结果:共调查了1230人,男876人,女324人,肯定28人为痴呆,痴呆的发生率为2.8%。28例中男16人,女12人,男性发病率为1.8%(12/876),女性发病率为2.3%(12/324),男女发病率比较差异有显著性意义(χ2=2.73,P=0.05).不同年龄段比较:65～69,70～74,75岁以上发病率分别为0.9%(4/596),3.5%(14/403),4.2%(10/241),3者比较χ2=13.08,P<0.001。不同文化程度痴呆发生率比较:文盲、小学和中学以上发病率分别为;4.7%(19/401),1.4%(5/429),2.8%(4/480),3者比较χ2=16.50,P<0.001。结论:石河子地区痴呆发病率女性高于男性,且年龄越大、文化程度低者痴呆发生率高。

在庭审问答中,公诉人通常使用预设策略询问证人,以获得对控方有利的推理。公诉人在使用一般疑问句、附加疑问句、信息疑问句和陈述疑问句时带有一定的预设,而预设是否成立取决于证人对含预设问话的回答。是否对公诉人问话中的预设进行确认,取决于公诉人问话的目的与证人的立场是否一致。当双方目的一致时,证人倾向于采取合作态度,承认问话中的预设;当双方目的冲突时,证人倾向于采取不合作态度,否认问话中的预设;当证人对公诉人的问话目的未知时,合作与否是未知的;当证人认为公诉人的问话目的为中性时,合作与否是个变量。
