First, by combining theories anddiscussions from linguistic and literature, the author will compare both positive and negative perspectives andexamine how the parenthesis is used in different texts. Next, the author will focus on how the notions of parenthesisturn from initially being considered as surplus, subordinate, and inferior, to the re-evaluation of their role as asignificant and indispensable part of the text, and most importantly, as the sign of the author＇s presence in the text.Borrowing Laura Rascaroli＇s concept of ＂sonic interstices,＂ the author will look at how the voice-over in the diaryfilm functions and relates itself to the images in the space created by parenthetical insertion. Finally, the author willexamine Jonas Mekas＇s diary film--The Song of Avila as a case study, analyzing the relationship between thevoice-over and the images in this film by applying my concept of a parenthetical structure.展开更多

Still in a close affinity with Martin Heidegger, his teacher, Jonas argued that mode...Among the few philosophers who dedicated philosophical reflection on the problem of technology, Hans Jonas would be the leading one. Still in a close affinity with Martin Heidegger, his teacher, Jonas argued that modem technology bore some annoying characters. In line of this anxiety, Jonas suggested the importance of protecting life as an integral part of the ethical project he intended to build. Departing from his basic notion that human life is never separated from other organic life, Jonas has opened a wider space for ethical responsibilities towards life of the whole cosmos. In what sense is his notion of the responsibility towards the whole life should be understood is one of the aim of this paper. Baring in mind that Jonas developed his concept on life and human responsibility towards it as an argumentation against the development of technology, the social context in which modem technology finds its root is worthed to be discussed. It is concluded that separating ethics from ontology as many theorists and philosophers did so far has strengthened the old notion of human autonomy with its defects, and by that, the destruction of life seemed to be accepted as a consequence of it.展开更多

The theory is not renormalizable and presents a symmetry breaking due to ...We review the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model (NJL), proposed long time ago, in the sixties, as a fermion interaction theory with chiral symmetry. The theory is not renormalizable and presents a symmetry breaking due to quantum effects which depends on the strength of the coupling constant. We may associate a phase transition with this symmetry breaking, leading from fermion states to a fermion condensate which can be described effectively by a scalar field. Our purpose in this paper is to exploit the interesting properties of NJL in a different context other than particle physics by studying its cosmological dynamics. We are interested in finding whether possibly the NJL model could be used to describe the still unknown dark energy and/or dark matter, from up to 95% of the energy content of the universe at present time.展开更多
