This paper has briefly analyzed the publication status of Chinese stomatology papers in 2009 with statistics from Journal Citation Reports provided by Thomson Scientific. Only those papers with the first author coming from the mainland of China were included for calculations. We have found a significant increase in the number of SCIE-indexed papers, most of which were published by six dental institutions in China. Among all Chinese medical institutions, West China School of Stomatology Sichuan University is the first dental institution to enter the top-20 list with the most publications, and it also ranks the 9th in the number of outstanding articles. West China School of Stomatology Sichuan University and the Forth Military Medical University are the only two dental institutions in China which have published SCIE-indexed papers over a hundred. The former has published the most SCIE-indexed stomatology papers, while the latter has the highest average impact factor. As the laboratories and funds in China have close connections with various dental hospitals, the pratice of translational medicine in dentistry is fast and fluent. 展开更多

Background:East Asia is one of the most important economy and research force in the world. However, the trend of published articles in various areas of East Asia has not been reported. Methods:We used PubMed and Web of Science databases to search for articles published from China,South Korea, and Japan in 59 nursing journals, from January 2008 to December 2017.Results:The results indicated that Journal of Clinical Nursing is the most popular journal in East Asia and the number of articles published in China has shown a steady upward trend, surpassing Japan and South Korea(from 204 in 2008 to 320 in 2017).South Korea has increased rapidly since 2013(from 65 in 2013 to 144 in 2017).Conclusion:We conclude that China is the most influenced country with the largest number of articles in the field of nursing in East Asia.It is worth noting that the number of articles published in Japan has been slowly declining since 2015. 展开更多

The art of constructing an insightful literature review manuscript has witnessed an exemplar in the work of Oz et al(2023),wherein concept progression harmoniously merges with figures and tables.Reflecting on retrospective data science,it is evident that well-cited articles can wield a transformative influence on the Journal Citation Reports Impact Factor score,as exemplified by Robert Weinberg’s landmark on cancer(Hanahan and Weinberg,2011).Here,we aim to spotlight a commendable contribution by Tuba Oz,Ajeet Kaushik, and Małgorzata Kujawska in this issue while pivoting towards identifying the hallmarks of a subpar literature review-elements that hinder rather than promote advancement. The hurdles and roadblocks encountered within subpar literature reviews are multifold.Anticipation of emerging trends, identification of challenges, and exploration of solutions remain conspicuously absent.Original Contributions fail to surface amidst the vast sea of pre-existing literature, with noticeable gaps amplified by the lack of illustrative figures and tables. The manuscript,at times, assumes a skeletal form, reflecting an attempt to accommodate an excess of references, leading to convoluted sentences laden with citations. In contrast,a potent solution lies in adopting a comprehensive approach.A nuanced and critical evaluation of sources can culminate in a robust discussion, surpassing the mere summarization of conclusions drawn by others. This approach, often dismissed, holds the potential to elevate clarity, coherence, and logical flow, ultimately inviting engaged readership and coveted citations. The critical necessity of integrating visionary insights is underscored and achieved through a rigorous analysis of pivotal concepts and innovative ideas.Examples can be harnessed to elucidate the application of these solutions. We advocate a paradigm shift, urging literature review writers to embrace the readers’perspective.A literature review’s purpose extends beyond providing a comprehensive panorama;it should illuminate avenues for concept development within a specific field of interest.By achieving this balance, literature reviews stand to captivate a devoted readership, paving the way for manuscripts that are both widely read and frequently cited. The pathway forward requires a fusion of astute analysis and visionary insights, shaping the future of literature review composition. 展开更多

With the emergence and further development of the digital library, the approaches of information acquisition correspondingly change a lot. This paper makes a statistical analysis on the journal downloading and citation behaviors under the digital environment conceived by the National Science Library(NSL), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS). It can be seen that the development of digital resources has influenced scientific research behaviors. For example, the large quantity of full-text downloading will maintain; the trend of journal downloading behaviors is basically same as the journal citation behavior; journals with large quantity of full-text downloading also boast the high cited times, and vice versa. Furthermore, authors make a linear regression analysis, with the journal downloading amount as the independent variable and journal cited times as dependent variable. Then they also prove the positive correlation between the journal downloading and citation behaviors by means of Pearson's correlation coefficient formula. 展开更多

Over the past decade, oncology research had developed rapidly worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate the publication characteristics in oncology journals from China and other top-ranking countries. Methods The present study was designed to study publication characteristics in oncology journals from China and other top-ranking countries, the United States (USA), Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom (UK) and France, from 2001 to 2010. We also examined the research output from the three different regions of China: the mainland of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Results Articles published in 163 journals related to oncology were retrieved from the PubMed database. The number of articles showed significantly positive trends for the six countries. The percentage of articles in the world output showed a significantly positive increase in contributions from China, especially the mainland of China. China contributed 4.5% of the total 163 journals, and 2.5% of the journals with the top 10% impact factor (IF) scores. USA contributed 31.4% of the total world output, 40.5% of the top 10% IF score journals and ranked the first. Conclusions This analysis described the research output from each country and region of China, and revealed the positive trend in China during 2001 and 2010. Also, by contrast with other top-ranking countries, these results imply that China falls behind the others in conducting hi qh-quality oncolocjy research. 展开更多
