Cities stimulate innovations by creating a specific demand for innovations and innovative products as well as specific incentives such as preferable conditions for creation, accumulation, usage, and exchange of knowledge and information. Diffusion of ideas has an impact on changes in environment resulting in increase in dynamics of innovation, which means possibilities of innovative development for local firms. The paper highlights the idea of an innovative city with respect to the impact of innovations on city development. The concept of an innovative city is not clearly defined because the interpretation of innovation is differentiated and ambiguous except for common denominator of the novelty. The paper underlines the role of city's environment for innovations' creation acting as an incubator for clusters of firms, particularly those engaged in the process of high-tech involvement (technology parks). The option of an innovative city approach presented here is the author's view on an innovative city's growth and it is based on the role of synergic interaction between innovative firms as elements of a city space and an innovative city itself.展开更多

It has been estimated that at least 70% of the total population of Cameroon will be living in urban areas by 2060. Urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) has become an important source of livelihood and survival, especially amongst the urban poor but is not adequately recognized and supported by the government of Cameroon and organizations. Recent innovations in UPA have created new opportunities for social, economic, and environmental sustainability of urban areas, hence possible policy formulation in UPA. Therefore, this study was conducted with the main objective of determining the drivers of innovative urban and peri-urban agriculture in Bamenda City, Cameroon. Methodologically, the study employed probit model, using primary data collected from a sample of 402 UPA farmers through the cluster, simple random, and snowball sampling techniques. The results revealed that access to extension services is a major driver of innovative UPA in Bamenda City and is statistically significant at 1%. Other factors such as employment status (full time), age group (26 to 50 years), and gender, were also seen to have a significant positive influence on innovative UPA while the level of education (secondary) had a negative influence on innovative UPA and was statistically significant at 5%. Limited capital, limited knowledge, and financial constraints were identified as the major challenges hindering the practice of innovative urban and peri-urban agriculture in Bamenda City. The study recommends that the government and non-governmental organizations should increase the quality and quantity of extension service delivery to urban and peri-urban farmers, and more recognition and support should be offered to them to help overcome the challenges faced.展开更多

The research on China’s innovation-oriented city assessment system is also increasing. On the basis of predecessors, this paper constructs innovation-oriented city evaluation indicator system with more links based on innovation link. It has three categories with 44 indicators in total according to input, intermediate output and final output. 文摘As a crucial environmental reform system to realize“carbon peaking”and“carbon neutrality”,the pilot policy of low-carbon cities(LCCs)puts pressure and challenges on high-carbon emitting enterprises(HCEEs)while providing opportunities for these firms to take the path of independent transformation.Employing the data of Chinese listed enterprises from 2006 to 2016 and adopting a difference-in-differences(DID)model,we evaluated the impact of LCC construction on the upgrading of HCEEs and its mechanisms. The results indicate that LCC construction enhances the upgrading of HCEEs in the pilot cities. The conclusions remain stable after a series of robustness tests. The mechanism analysis reveals that LCC construction triggers the upgrading of HCEEs by promoting resource allocation efficiency,R&D investment, and green technology innovation. The heterogeneity results indicate that this positive effect is more pronounced for HCEEs in regions with more stringent environmental law enforcement. This study also observes that the upgrading impact is more promi‐nent for state-owned enterprises, enterprises with higher bargaining power, and enterprises whose managers have a long-term vision. The above results provide directions for upgrading HCEEs and replicable evidence for cities in developing economies to fulfill the win-win target of environmental protection and economic transfor‐mation.
文摘Previous researches concerning smart city have been carried out for nearly 30 years in various academia, but the basic concepts are still in an evolving fashion along with the development of the needs of human beings. However,it is convinced that the key to a smart city lies in the governance of the government and citizens.Meanwhile, the application of modern science and technology plays an essential role in boosting the quality of citizen’s life.As one of the international cities,Beijing’s construction of its smart city is developing rapidly with its development of science and technology.Beijing has always been open to foreigners, especially after the 2008 Olympic Games. The construction on smart city paves the way in promoting the image of Beijing as an international communication center. Therefore, this study combs the development of concepts of smart cities, focuses on the role of smart city in promoting Beijing’s international communication center image,as well as points out potential directions for Beijing’s smart city development.
文摘Promoting the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a major policy decision and national strategy made by the central government of China, which significantly supports the Belt and Road Initiative and maintains the long-term prosperity for the whole country. As an important part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,Foshan needs to find its own position and direction in order to accelerate the joint development with other cities through five measures.
文摘Against the backdrop of rapid global economic development, the demand for education has gradually shifted from quantitative growth to qualitative improvement.Vocational education, higher education, and continuing education are crucial components of China’s education system, each serving different educational functions. However, the collaborative innovation among these three types of education is still in the preliminary exploration stage, with issues such as scattered resources and imperfect coordination mechanisms. This paper systematically reviews relevant domestic and international research and practical experiences, thoroughly analyzes the pathways, models, and mechanisms of collaborative innovation among these three types of education, and proposes practical and operational suggestions based on the actual situation in Xuzhou City. The study finds that collaboration between vocational education, higher education, and continuing education through innovation not only enhances the overall efficiency of educational resources but also promotes regional economic development and social progress. On this basis, this paper proposes specific measures such as building an education resource-sharing platform, promoting a chain-based talent training system, strengthening policy and institutional guarantees, and improving incentive mechanisms, aiming to provide a reference for local education administrators and contribute to the innovative development of education in China.

文摘New energy development is essential to achieving carbon peaks and neutrality and promoting green technological innovation.Identifying the causal relationship between new energy demonstration city construction and green technological innovation is crucial for the expansion and promotion of new energy demonstration cities. In this study,we take the construction of new energy demonstration cities as a quasi-natural experiment, study their impact on green technological innovation using difference-indifference(DID),and conduct a robustness test using DID after propensity score matching(PSM-DID).The research results indicate the following:First, energy structure optimization can significantly improve the level of urban green technological innovation(this result was shown to be valid using PSM-DID and other tests involving the effects of placebo and instrumental variables).Second, new energy demonstration city construction mainly improves the level of urban green technological innovation through technology research and development, the improvement of the industrial innovation environment, and the promotion of environmental performance.Third, the impact of energy structure optimization on green technological innovation has regional, financial, and economic development heterogeneity. Finally, new energy demonstration city policy affects the flow of capital, labor, technology, and other production factors to pilot areas according to new energy demonstration city policy, forming a“siphon effect”.The carbon reduction effect of new energy demonstration city construction is greater than its pollution reduction effect.Given the results of the study, policy recommendations to promote the expansion of new energy demonstration cities are proposed.
