We experimentally investigate the continuous-wave(cw)and acousto-optical(AO)Q-switched performance of a diode-pumped Ho:(Sc_(0.5)Y_(0.5))_2SiO_5(Ho:SYSO)laser.A fiber-coupled laser diode at 1.91m is employed as the pump source.The cw Ho:SYSO laser produces 13.0 W output power at 2097.9 nm and 56.0%slope efficiency with respect to the absorbed pump power.In the AO Q-switched regime,at a pulse repetition frequency of 5 kHz,the Ho:SYSO laser yields 2.1 mJ pulse energy and 21 ns pulse width,resulting in a calculated peak power of 100 k W.In addition,at the maximum output level,the beam quality factor of the Q-switched Ho:SYSO laser is measured to be about 1.6. 展开更多

In order to improve the output power and increase the lifetime of laser diodes,expansion-matched submounts were investigated by finite element analysis.The submount was designed as sandwiched structure.By varying the vertical structure and material of the middle layer,the thermal expansion behavior on the mounting surface was simulated to obtain the expansion-matched design.In addition,the thermal performance of laser diodes packaged by different submounts was compared.The numerical results showed that,changing the thickness ratio of surface copper to middle layer will lead the stress and junction temperature to the opposite direction.Thus compromise needs to be made in the design of the vertical structure.In addition,the silicon carbide(SiC) is the most promising material candidate for the middle layer among the materials discussed in this paper.The simulated results were aimed at providing guidance for the optimal design of sandwich-structure submounts. 展开更多

Achieving a high color rendering index(CRI)and luminous stability in single-structured Ce:Y_(3)Al_(5)O_(12)(Ce:YAG)phosphor ceramics(PCs)is crucial for high-power white light-emitting diodes or laser diodes(LEDs/LDs).However,cyan valleys and insufficient amounts of the red component in the Ce:YAG emission spectra significantly limit their real applications.In this work,a series of Ce,Mn:Y_(3)(Al,Sc)_(2)Al_(3)O_(12)(Ce,Mn:YSAG)PCs were fabricated by vacuum sintering,and efficient spectral regulation was realized for full-color lighting.The cyan valley was filled by the blueshifted emission peak of Ce^(3+)via Sc^(3+)doping.The orange‒red emission at approximately 580 nm was effectively supplemented via Mn^(2+)doping.In particular,CRI of Ce,Mn:YSAG increased from 56.4 to 85.8,a 52%increase compared with that of Ce:YAG under high-power LED excitation,and the operating temperature was stable at approximately 50℃for long working time.Moreover,CRI of 80.9 could still be obtained for PC-based white LDs.These results indicated that Ce,Mn:YSAG PC,which has excellent CRI and luminous stability,is an extremely promising color convertor for high-power white LEDs/LDs. 展开更多

We present a 940 nm quasi-continuous wave semiconductor laser designed as a building block for high-power fiber coupled pump modules.The laser comprises a 400μm narrow-stripe array mounted on an aluminum nitride substrate using hard solder.The chip has been optimized for high optical power and low lateral far-field angles.Two vertical and six lateral structure variations have been investigated to determine the best achievable performance.Operating at 1 ms pulse width and a repetition rate of 10 Hz,the laser device reaches a maximum pulse power of 86 W from a 400μm aperture and more than 62%maximum conversion efficiency.Low lateral far-field angles(95%power enclosed)of11.5 and 13.5,depending on the epitaxial design,enable efficient multimode fiber coupling.The potential for highly reliable applications has been demonstrated. 展开更多

Tailored diode laser single emitters with long(6 mm) resonators and wide(1.2 mm) emission apertures that operate with940 nm emission wavelength were assembled in novel edge-cooled vertically stacked arrays, and used to construct a compact and highly efficient fiber coupled pump source for Yb:YAG pulsed high-energy class solid-state lasers. The novel configuration is shown to allow repetition rates of 200 Hz at 1 ms pulse duration, at an output power of 130 W per single emitter. The emission of two stacked arrays was then optically combined to realize pump modules that deliver6 kW peak power(pulse energy 6 J) from a 1.9 mm core diameter fiber, with wall plug efficiency of 50%. This represents a significant improvement in terms of duty cycle and electro-optical efficiency over conventional sources. The pump module has been successfully tested at the Max Born Institute, Berlin during trials for pumping of disk lasers. 展开更多
