This thesis focuses on the Krashen's Input Hypothesis, which includes the following five hypotheses: the acquisition- learning hypothesis, the monitor hypothesis, the natural order hypothesis, the input hypothesis and the effective filter hypothesis. The thesis tries to explore the pedagogical implications of Krashen's Input Hypothesis on second language teaching in the aspects of the input quantity and input quality. The thesis tries to explore the most effective methods of second language teaching, in the hope that it will help to improve the efficiency of second language teaching.展开更多

Appropriate input is the key point in language acquisition, and teacher’s language input is an indispensable and basic factor which decides success or failure of teaching.

This paper explains the main claims of Michael Long's Interaction Hypothesis, the three steps to study how input and interaction affect the acquisition of a second language, and the importance of the interactional modifications applied by both participants of the interaction. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation of the theory as well as its relation to second language teaching, with many researchers' findings and arguments discussed as supporting evidence. It aims to help the effective application of this theory in second language teaching.展开更多

Linguists have carried out many theoretical and empirical studies with a sharp purpose to promote Second Language Acquisition. Krashen's Input Hypothesis and Long's Interaction Hypothesis are most influential ones among the studies. They both play important roles in language teaching and learning. The paper will present an account of the two great theories, including the main claims, theoretical foundations as well as some related empirical works and try to investigate commons and differences between them, based on literature and empirical studies. The purpose of writing this paper is to provide a clear outline of the two theories and point out how they are interrelated yet separate predictions about how second language are learned. It is meaningful because the results can be valuable guidance and highlights for language teachers and learners to teach or acquire a language better.展开更多

The Input Hypothesis, as one part of"Monitor Model" proposedby Stephen D. Krashen, suggests that the comprehensible input plays a key role in the language acquisition.Nowadays, the Input Hypothesis, with "i+l" as its core proposal, influences Chinese foreign language teachingfrom various aspects. But there are also many disputes. In this paper, the author intends to elaborate on its maincontents, characteristics, influences on foreign language teaching, existing defects, and so on, aiming to achieve thegoal of reviewing of this theory and its influence in China.展开更多
