Investigating Iranian Test-takers＇ Performance Over Taking Different Modalities of Listening Comprehension Test

Visual and pictorial materials are extensively used in teaching listening comprehension textbooks. Although the use of still image is currently implemented in some distinguished testing systems, video test is not a popular modality due to the fact that this kind of test may result in test-takers＇ confusion during the test. In the present study, a sample of 80 Iranian EFL （English as a Foreign Language） students was selected to compare their performance on three different modalities of listening test： audio-only test, pictorial （listening with still image test）, and visual （video） listening test. The analysis of one-way repeated measure ANOVA （Analysis of Variance） was used to compare the students＇ scores. The results of Bonferroni Post Hoc Test confirm that there were significant differences in scores among audio-only, pictorial, and visual tests. The results of this study highlight the greater performance of students in pictorial listening test which is statistically significant.

Empowering College English Listening and Speaking Teaching With ChatGPT

This paper explores the application of artificial intelligence technology,particularly the chatbot ChatGPT,in college English listening and speaking instruction,as well as its impact on educational models.The article first analyzes the current state of college English listening and speaking education,highlighting issues such as uneven distribution of educational resources,insufficient teaching conditions,and outdated teaching methods.It then defines ChatGPT and discusses its characteristics,explaining the necessity of integrating ChatGPT into college English listening and speaking classes from the perspectives of teachers,students,and pedagogy.Finally,the paper proposes innovative application methods for ChatGPT in college English listening and speaking instruction,including enhancing speaking and listening teaching,providing personalized feedback,and promoting students’autonomous learning abilities.The introduction of ChatGPT not only enriches teaching resources and enhances the authenticity and interactivity of learning but also drives educational models towards a more flexible and efficient direction.

Research on Learner Needs Analysis and Listening Activities

Listening is the primary method to access language information.It is an essential part of L2(second language)teaching but also the most difficult skill to master for L2 learners.Based on this,it is necessary to analyze learners’needs in listening.This article aims to conduct a needs analysis of a selected learner from Iraq and describe course material selection and design.Methods including questionnaires,interviews,and observation were used to collect data.Additionally,targeted 60-minute online listening activities were designed.It was found that listening activities can improve both listening and speaking skills.Thus,language teaching should be student-oriented,and subsequent course materials and activity design should be selected based on the analysis of students’needs.

Challenges and Countermeasures in Integrating Chinese Traditional Culture into English Listening and Speaking Course

Foreign language education involves not only language education but also cultural education.It is the new mission of today’s foreign language education to integrate Chinese traditional culture into foreign language teaching and cultivate foreign language talents who can tell Chinese stories well and spread Chinese voice.As a basic course for English majors,English Listening and Speaking faces many challenges when it is integrated into Chinese traditional culture,such as complex teaching content,limited teaching resources,insufficient teachers’literacy,and students’listening and speaking difficulties.In order to solve these problems,teachers and universities should work together to sort out the connotation of Chinese traditional culture,develop audio-visual teaching materials,organize teacher training,and innovate teaching methods,so as to effectively promote the connection between Chinese traditional culture and English Listening and Speaking curriculum system.

Incorporation of Learning Strategies into Web-based Autonomous Listening

The thesis introduces a comparative study of students'autonomous listening practice in a web-based autonomous learning center and the traditional teacher-dominated listening practice in a traditional language lab.The purpose of the study is to find how students'listening strategies differ in these two approaches and thereby to find which one better facilitates students'listening proficiency.

Effects of Reading-Listening Integrated Dictation on Chinese EFL Students’ Listening Performance

This study examines the effects of reading-listening integrated dictation on Chinese college-level English as a foreign language(EFL) learners’ listening. Different from previous research that explored reading while listening for listening development, this study combined the two skills in dictation in which listening was a continuation of reading. Participants were two groups of firstyear Chinese EFL learners who were exposed to the target language under two conditions: the traditional dictation(i. e., listening-only) and the reading-listening integrated dictation in a counterbalanced order. Three datasets were collected: listening performance, perception questionnaires and follow-up interviews. Results indicated that the reading-listening integrated dictation was superior in terms of learning gains from listening and that their effect was commensurate with dictation text difficulty. The findings also showed that the reading-listening integrated dictation could enhance EFL students’ confidence and interest and make the use of strategies possible during listening.

The Effects of Web-Based Listening Strategy Training on Thai High School EFL Students＇ Listening Comprehension

This study investigated the effects of a CLSTS （Computer-Assisted Listening Strategy Training Software） program on the development of students＇ ability to use four target listening strategies to enhance their listening comprehension. This study covered an experimental group and a control group. The participants were Grade 10 Thai EFL （English as a Foreign Language） students in a Thai high school in Bangkok, Thailand. Experimental group performance was compared to that of a control group on the five research instruments. Regarding the effect of the CLSTS on the students＇ ability to use the target listening strategies to enhance their listening comprehension, it was found that the CLSTS was significantly effective. The results that made CLSTS effective were categorized into six main aspects.

Opinions on Classroom Teaching in Developing Students＇ Ability in English Listening and Speaking

This paper, with the questionnaire and interview as the main research methods, sums up and analyses the chief factors that cause the divorce between listening and speaking in current classroom teaching, and puts forward some proposals as an approach to the divorce problem, It is hoped that these proposals will be of some help to our teaching in listening and speaking, so as to enhance students＇ listening and speaking ability effectively.

On the Application of Task-based Approach in English Listening Teaching at Middle Schools

In the fourth part, discusses the current situation of English teaching at middle school,and the elaboration on the task-based model of English listening teaching. All in all, the research is to make the audience to understand the application of Task-based Approach in English listening teaching at middle schools so as to improve the students' English listening ability.
