The result reveals that the helicity inversion of the laser (photons) occurs when the wave vector of the laser (photon) rotates at an extremely high angular velocity. The dynamic factor that dominates the process is the Coriolis coupling between the spin of the photon and the rotation of the wave vector. This non-intertial effect is treated successfully by simplification of the Maxwell equation in the rotational frame. In addition, the implication of the helicity inversion in information theory is discussed.展开更多

The protons which are doped in the rear side of the target experience the electrostatic fields caused by both the radiation pressure driven shock and the target normal sheath at the rear side of the target. A quasimonoenergetic proton bunch with central energy of about 11MeV and energy spread of ∆ ε/ε about 0.18 is achieved by using a 3.45×1019 W/cm2, 66fs laser pulse. The TEM analyses of sub -microstruc- ture also discover that microstructure constituent of both simulated HAZ is dominative lath martensite. However, the shaf of martensite is relatively coarse, and the dislocation density is relatively high for simulated HAZ with 200℃ preheat because of slower cooling rate. Combination of these tow factors is responsible for farer bardness and better toughness of simulated HAZ with preheat condition.展开更多

The defect mode characteristic of the PBG with a cavity-defect is studied by one-dimensional particle-in-cell (1D PIC) simulation. It is shown that the laser pulse with the defect frequency can be localized around the defect partly and at the same time leak out of both sides of the grating slowly because of the few number of the grating period. This results in local high laser field intensity and high plasma density produced at the defect area, from which the third harmonic is enhanced by one order of magnitude. With the enhancement of the light coupled to the defect and the decrease of the light leaking out of the defect, the conversion efficiency of the third harmonic from the incident laser can be increased.展开更多

The photoinduced reorientation process is investigated by using an Nd:YVO4 pump beam at 532 nm and a low semiconductor laser beam at 650 nm. The reorientation rate of azo polymer films is enhanced in the presence of Ag nanoparticles, and the rate of the azo polymer film with Ag concentration of 2.2 μg/ml is larger than that of the azo polymer films with Ag concentrations of 1.1 μg/ml and 4.4 μg/ml. The third-order nonlinear optical properties of the Ag/azo composite film are obtained by the Z-scan technique at a wavelength of 532 nm, and the measured nonlinear refractive index is 9.258×10-9 esu. It is shown that the main mechanisms involved in the large nonlinear optical responses come from the local field enhancement of Ag nanoparticles and the nonlinear effect of the azo polymer matrix.展开更多

A transition rate formula for HHG is obtained. Applying this formula, we cal- culate the spectra of high harmonics generated from different noble gases shined by strong laser light. We study the cutoff property of the spectra. The data show that the cutoff orders of high harmonics are greater than that predicted by the "3.17" cutoff law. As a numerical experiment, the data obtained from our repeated calculations support the newly derived theoretical expression of the cutoff law. The cutoff energy of high harmonics described by the new cutoff law, in terms of the ponderomotive energy Up and the ionization potential energy Ip, is 3.34Up 1.83Ip. The higher cutoff orders predicted by this theory are due to the absorption of the extra photons, which participate only the photon-mode up-conversion and do nothing in the photoionization process.展开更多

Even though, this law has been there for twenty years or so, the background information for these two constants, such as how they relate to fundamental physics and mathematics constants, is still unknown. This simple fact, keeps this cutoff law remaining as an empirical one. Based on the cutoff property of Bessel functions and the Einstein photoelectric law in the multiphoton case, we show these two coefficients are algebraic constants, 9 - 4√2 ≈ 3.34 and 2√2-1≈1.83, respectively. A recent spectra calculation and an experimental measurement support the new cutoff law.展开更多

Our study shows that the pondero- motive parameter Up, the ponderomotive energy per laser-photon energy, for each of the two traveling laser modes possesses a minimum valuehω/(mec2). Ponderomotive resonances occur only when the ratio of the laser photon energy to the electron rest-mass energy is a fraction, where the denomina- tor is twice the square of a positive integer and the numerator is the total ponderomotive number, which is also a positive integer.展开更多

The effects of ultrahigh acceleration of plasma blocks with high energy proton beams are proposed for muon production in a compact magnetic fusion device. The proposed new scheme consists of an ignition fusion spark by muon catalyzed fusion(μCF) in a small mirror-like configuration where low temperature D–T plasma is trapped for a duration of 1 μs. This initial fusion spark produces sufficient alpha heating in order to initiate the fusion process in the main device. The use of a multi-fluid global particle and energy balance code allows us to follow the temporal evolution of the reaction rate of the fusion process in the device. Recent progress on the ICAN and IZEST projects for high efficient high power and high repetition rate laser systems allows development of the proposed device for clean energy production. With the proposed approaches, experiments on fusion nuclear reactions and μCF process can be performed in magnetized plasmas in existing kJ/PW laser facilities as the GEKKO-LFEX, the PETAL and the ORION or in the near future laser facilities as the ELI-NP Romanian pillar.展开更多
