The results showed that the liquefaction effects are enhanced with an increase in temperature, catalyst content and liquid ratio. FTIR analysis proved that more active functional groups appeared after S. psammophila and C. intermedia were liquefied in the presence of phenol. These results can provide a theoretical basis for the further utilization of liquefied S. psammophila and C. intermedia and the development of desert shrubs in a new utilization field.展开更多

Through decreasing Aβ aggregates, anti-inflammatory agents, phagocytosis, and proteolytic enzymes are known to decline risk of Aβ plaque formation. In the previous study we showed that aqueous extract of Lavandula angustifolia (lavender), with known anti-inflammatory effects, improves memory deficits in animal model of Alzheimer. Here, we assess if lavender play a role in clearance of Aβ plaques in the hippocampus. The Alzheimeric animals were created with intracerebroventricular injection of Aβ 1-42. To confirm formation of Aβ plaques, brain sections were stained by Congo red method. Twenty days post-injection they were administered with different doses (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg) of the aqueous extract of lavender for duration of 20 days. Our results demonstrated that 50 mg/kg of lavender not effectively influenced the Aβ plaques. On the other hand, the herbal medicine at the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg markedly decreased the extent of Aβ aggregates. We concluded that the lavender extract dose dependently underlies elimination of Aβ plaques. The exact mechanism by which the herbal medicine removes the Aβ aggregates needs to be elucidated.展开更多

In this study, the effect of heat treatment on the native isolates of Yersinia enterocolitica CFR 2301 and Y. intermedia CFR 2303 revealed the D-values ranging from the lowest of 0.08 min at 65℃ in skim milk/beef gravy to the highest of 18.52 min at 50℃ in beef gravy. The heat sensitivity of both these cultures was in the order of Milli-Q water > 0.85% saline > skim milk > beef gravy. The z-values of the test cultures ranged from 7.55℃ for Y. intermedia to 12.08℃ for Y. enterocolitica. The heat sensitivity in Y. enterocolitica appeared to be related with growth incubation temperatures and also fatty acid profile of cell membrane. The effect of low temperature treatments (–20 ℃, 0℃ and 4℃ for 20 d) in water, saline and skim milk revealed the ability of Y. enterocolitica to survive more efficiently at –20℃, while Y. intermedia was more tolerant at 0℃. In packaged drinking water, Y. enterocolitica could survive and grow at 4℃ and 16℃, while at 30℃, inactivation was rapid. The findings did indicate that heat and cold treatments would not always ensure safety from Y. enterocolitica and Y. intermedia in the food chain.
