N-11-azaartemisinins potentially active against Plasmodium falciparum are designed by combining molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), ligand-receptor interaction, and models built with supervised machine learning methods (PCA, HCA, KNN, SIMCA, and SDA). The optimization of molecular structures was performed using the B3LYP/6-31G* approach. MEP maps and ligand-receptor interactions were used to investigate key structural features required for biological activities and likely interactions between N-11-azaartemisinins and heme, respectively. The supervised machine learning methods allowed the separation of the investigated compounds into two classes: cha and cla, with the properties ε<sub>LUMO+1</sub> (one level above lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy), d(C<sub>6</sub>-C<sub>5</sub>) (distance between C<sub>6</sub> and C<sub>5</sub> atoms in ligands), and TSA (total surface area) responsible for the classification. The insights extracted from the investigation developed and the chemical intuition enabled the design of sixteen new N-11-azaartemisinins (prediction set), moreover, models built with supervised machine learning methods were applied to this prediction set. The result of this application showed twelve new promising N-11-azaartemisinins for synthesis and biological evaluation. 展开更多

Tweek atmospherics are extremely low frequency and very low frequency pulse signals with frequency dispersion characteristics that originate from lightning discharges and that propagate in the Earth–ionosphere waveguide over long distances.In this study,we developed an automatic method to recognize tweek atmospherics and diagnose the lower ionosphere based on the machine learning method.The differences(automatic−manual)in each ionosphere parameter between the automatic method and the manual method were−0.07±2.73 km,0.03±0.92 cm^(−3),and 91±1,068 km for the ionospheric reflection height(h),equivalent electron densities at reflection heights(Ne),and propagation distance(d),respectively.Moreover,the automatic method is capable of recognizing higher harmonic tweek sferics.The evaluation results of the model suggest that the automatic method is a powerful tool for investigating the long-term variations in the lower ionosphere. 展开更多

In modern transportation,pavement is one of the most important civil infrastructures for the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.Pavement service quality and service life are of great importance for civil engineers as they directly affect the regular service for the users.Therefore,monitoring the health status of pavement before irreversible damage occurs is essential for timely maintenance,which in turn ensures public transportation safety.Many pavement damages can be detected and analyzed by monitoring the structure dynamic responses and evaluating road surface conditions.Advanced technologies can be employed for the collection and analysis of such data,including various intrusive sensing techniques,image processing techniques,and machine learning methods.This review summarizes the state-ofthe-art of these three technologies in pavement engineering in recent years and suggests possible developments for future pavement monitoring and analysis based on these approaches. 展开更多

The nonlinear Schrodinger equation is a classical integrable equation which contains plenty of significant properties and occurs in many physical areas.However,due to the difficulty of solving this equation,in particular in high dimensions,lots of methods are proposed to effectively obtain different kinds of solutions,such as neural networks among others.Recently,a method where some underlying physical laws are embeded into a conventional neural network is proposed to uncover the equation’s dynamical behaviors from spatiotemporal data directly.Compared with traditional neural networks,this method can obtain remarkably accurate solution with extraordinarily less data.Meanwhile,this method also provides a better physical explanation and generalization.In this paper,based on the above method,we present an improved deep learning method to recover the soliton solutions,breather solution,and rogue wave solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation.In particular,the dynamical behaviors and error analysis about the one-order and two-order rogue waves of nonlinear integrable equations are revealed by the deep neural network with physical constraints for the first time.Moreover,the effects of different numbers of initial points sampled,collocation points sampled,network layers,neurons per hidden layer on the one-order rogue wave dynamics of this equation have been considered with the help of the control variable way under the same initial and boundary conditions.Numerical experiments show that the dynamical behaviors of soliton solutions,breather solution,and rogue wave solutions of the integrable nonlinear Schrodinger equation can be well reconstructed by utilizing this physically-constrained deep learning method. 展开更多

An emerging real-time ground compaction and quality control, known as intelligent compaction(IC), has been applied for efficiently optimising the full-area compaction. Although IC technology can provide real-time assessment of uniformity of the compacted area, accurate determination of the soil stiffness required for quality control and design remains challenging. In this paper, a novel and advanced numerical model simulating the interaction of vibratory drum and soil beneath is developed. The model is capable of evaluating the nonlinear behaviour of underlying soil subjected to dynamic loading by capturing the variations of damping with the cyclic shear strains and degradation of soil modulus. The interaction of the drum and the soil is simulated via the finite element method to develop a comprehensive dataset capturing the dynamic responses of the drum and the soil. Indeed, more than a thousand three-dimensional(3D) numerical models covering various soil characteristics, roller weights, vibration amplitudes and frequencies were adopted. The developed dataset is then used to train the inverse solver using an innovative machine learning approach, i.e. the extended support vector regression, to simulate the stiffness of the compacted soil by adopting drum acceleration records. Furthermore, the impacts of the amplitude and frequency of the vibration on the level of underlying soil compaction are discussed.The proposed machine learning approach is promising for real-time extraction of actual soil stiffness during compaction. Results of the study can be employed by practising engineers to interpret roller drum acceleration data to estimate the level of compaction and ground stiffness during compaction. 展开更多

This review summarizes the research outcomes and findings documented in 45 journal papers using a shared tunnel boring machine(TBM)dataset for performance prediction and boring efficiency optimization using machine learning methods.The big dataset was col-lected during the Yinsong water diversion project construction in China,covering the tunnel excavation of a 20 km-section with 199 items of monitoring metrics taken with an interval of one second.The research papers were the result of a call for contributions during a TBM machine learning contest in 2019 and covered a variety of topics related to the intelligent construction of TBM.This review com-prises two parts.Part I is concerned with the data processing,feature extraction,and machine learning methods applied by the contrib-utors.The review finds that the data-driven and knowledge-driven approaches in extracting important features applied by various authors are diversified,requiring further studies to achieve commonly accepted criteria.The techniques for cleaning and amending the raw data adopted by the contributors were summarized,indicating some highlights such as the importance of sufficiently high fre-quency of data acquisition(higher than 1 second),classification and standardization for the data preprocessing process,and the appro-priate selections of features in a boring cycle.The review finds that both supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods have been utilized by various researchers.The ensemble and deep learning methods have found wide applications.Part I highlights the impor-tant features of the individual methods applied by the contributors,including the structures of the algorithm,selection of hyperparam-eters,and model validation approaches. 展开更多

Objective: To explore the application effect of flipped classroom combined with problem-based learning teaching method in clinical skills teaching of standardized training for resident doctors of traditional Chinese Medicine. Methods: The study used the experimental control method. The study lasted from September to November 2022. The subjects of this study were 49 students of standardized training for resident doctors of traditional Chinese Medicine from grades 2020, 2021 and 2022 of Dazhou integrated TCM & Western Medicine Hospital. They were randomly divided into experiment group (25) and control group (24). The experiment group adopted flipped classroom combined with problem-based learning teaching method, and the control group adopted traditional teaching method. The teaching content was 4 basic clinical skill projects, including four diagnoses of traditional Chinese Medicine, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, dressing change procedure, acupuncture and massage. The evaluation method was carried out by comparing the students’ performance and a self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the students’ evaluation of the teaching method. Results: The test scores of total scores in the experimental group (90.12 ± 5.89) were all higher than those in the control group (81.47 ± 7.96) (t = 4.53, P P Conclusions: The teaching process of the flipped classroom combined with problem-based learning teaching method is conducive to improving the efficiency of classroom teaching, cultivating students’ self-learning ability, and enhancing students’ willingness to learn. 展开更多

We propose an effective scheme of the deep learning method for high-order nonlinear soliton equations and explore the influence of activation functions on the calculation results for higherorder nonlinear soliton equations. The physics-informed neural networks approximate the solution of the equation under the conditions of differential operator, initial condition and boundary condition. We apply this method to high-order nonlinear soliton equations, and verify its efficiency by solving the fourth-order Boussinesq equation and the fifth-order Korteweg–de Vries equation. The results show that the deep learning method can be used to solve high-order nonlinear soliton equations and reveal the interaction between solitons. 展开更多

Smart liquid gating membrane is a responsive structural material as a pressure-driven system that consists of solid membrane and dynamic liquid,responding to the external field.An accurate prediction of rheological and mechanical properties is important for the designs of liquid gating membranes for various applications.However,high predicted accuracy by the traditional sequential method requires a large amount of experimental data,which is not practical in some situations.To conquer these problems,artificial intelligence has promoted the rapid development of material science in recent years,bringing hope to solve these challenges.Here we propose a Kriging machine learning model with an active candidate region,which can be smartly updated by an expected improvement probability method to increase the local accuracy near the most sensitive search region,to predict the mechanical and rheolo-gical performance of liquid gating system with an active minimal size of ex-perimental data.Besides this,this new machine learning model can instruct our experiments with optimal size.The methods are then verified by liquid gating membrane with magnetorheological fluids,which would be of wide interest for the design of potential liquid gating applications in drug release,microfluidic logic,dynamic fluid control,and beyond. 展开更多

Objective:To analyze the diagnostic consistency of Chinese medicine(CM) specialists in patients with cardiovascular disease and to study syndrome classification and identification based on the multi-label learning method.Methods:Using self-developed CM clinical scales to collect cases,inquiry information,complexity,tongue manifestation and pulse manifestation were assessed.The number of cases collected was 2,218.Firstly,each case was differentiated by two CM specialists according to the same diagnostic criteria.The consistency of the diagnosis based on Cohen’s Kappa coefficient was analyzed.Secondly,take the same diagnosis syndromes of two specialists as the results of the cases.According to injury information in the CM scale "yes" or "no" was assigned "1" or "0",and according to the syndrome type in each case "yes" or "no" was assigned "1" or "0".CM information data on cardiovascular disease cases were established.We studied CM syndrome classification and identification based on the relevant feature for each label(REAL) leaming method,and the diagnostic rate of the syndrome was studied using the REAL method when the number of features selected was 5,10,15,20,30,50,70,and 100,respectively.Results:The syndromes with good diagnostic consistency were Heart(Xin)-qi deficiency,Heart-yang deficiency,Heart-yin deficiency,phlegm,stagnation of blood and stagnation of qi.Syndromes with poor diagnostic consistency were heartblood deficiency and blood deficiency of Heart and Liver(Gan).The highest diagnostic rates using the REAL method were Heart-yang deficiency followed by Heart-qi deficiency.A different number of features,such as 5,10,15,20,30,40,50,70,and 100,respectively,were selected and the diagnostic accuracy based on five features showed the highest diagnostic accuracy.The top five features which had a strong correlation with the syndromes were in accordance with the CM theory.Conclnsions:CM syndrome differentiation is strongly subjective and it is difficult to obtain good diagnostic consistency.The REAL method fully considers the relationship between syndrome types and injury symptoms,and is suitable for the establishment of models for CM syndrome classification and identification.This method can probably provide the prerequisite for objectivity and standardization of CM differentiation. 展开更多

A soft competition learning method is proposed. Centroid all rank distance (CARD), CARDx, and centroid all rank distance batch K-means (CARDBK) are three clustering algorithms that adopt the proposed soft competition learning method. Among them the extent to which one point affects a cluster centroid depends on the distances from this point to the other nearer cluster centroids, rather than just the rank number of the distance from this point to this cluster centroid among the distances from this point to all cluster centroids. In addition, the validation experiments are carried out in order to compare the three soft competition learning algorithms CARD, CARDx, and CARDBK with several hard competition learning algorithms as well as neural gas (NG) algorithm on five data sets from different sources. Judging from the values of five performance indexes in the clustering results, this kind of soft competition learning method has better clustering effect and efficiency, and has linear scalability. 展开更多

The COVID-19 pandemic has spread globally,resulting in financialinstability in many countries and reductions in the per capita grossdomestic product.Sentiment analysis is a cost-effective method for acquiringsentiments based on household income loss,as expressed on social media.However,limited research has been conducted in this domain using theLexDeep approach.This study aimed to explore social trend analytics usingLexDeep,which is a hybrid sentiment analysis technique,on Twitter to capturethe risk of household income loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.First,tweet data were collected using Twint with relevant keywords before(9 March2019 to 17 March 2020)and during(18 March 2020 to 21 August 2021)thepandemic.Subsequently,the tweets were annotated using VADER(lexiconbased)and fed into deep learning classifiers,and experiments were conductedusing several embeddings,namely simple embedding,Global Vectors,andWord2Vec,to classify the sentiments expressed in the tweets.The performanceof each LexDeep model was evaluated and compared with that of a supportvector machine(SVM).Finally,the unemployment rates before and duringCOVID-19 were analysed to gain insights into the differences in unemploymentpercentages through social media input and analysis.The resultsdemonstrated that all LexDeep models with simple embedding outperformedthe SVM.This confirmed the superiority of the proposed LexDeep modelover a classical machine learning classifier in performing sentiment analysistasks for domain-specific sentiments.In terms of the risk of income loss,the unemployment issue is highly politicised on both the regional and globalscales;thus,if a country cannot combat this issue,the global economy will alsobe affected.Future research should develop a utility maximisation algorithmfor household welfare evaluation,given the percentage risk of income lossowing to COVID-19. 展开更多

Emailing is among the cheapest and most easily accessible platforms,and covers every idea of the present century like banking,personal login database,academic information,invitation,marketing,advertisement,social engineering,model creation on cyber-based technologies,etc.The uncontrolled development and easy access to the internet are the reasons for the increased insecurity in email communication.Therefore,this review paper aims to investigate deep learning approaches for detecting the threats associated with e-mail security.This study compiles the literature related to the deep learning methodologies,which are applicable for providing safety in the field of cyber security of email in different organizations.Relevant data were extracted from different research depositories.The paper discusses various solutions for handling these threats.Different challenges and issues are also investigated for e-mail security threats including social engineering,malware,spam,and phishing in the existing solutions to identify the core current problem and set the road for future studies.The review analysis showed that communication media is the common platform for attackers to conduct fraudulent activities via spoofed e-mails and fake websites and this research has combined the merit and demerits of the deep learning approaches adaption in email security threat by the usage of models and technologies.The study highlighted the contrasts of deep learning approaches in detecting email security threats.This review study has set criteria to include studies that deal with at least one of the six machine models in cyber security. 展开更多

Weighted Forwarding in Graph Convolution Networks for Recommendation Information Systems

Recommendation Information Systems(RIS)are pivotal in helping users in swiftly locating desired content from the vast amount of information available on the Internet.Graph Convolution Network(GCN)algorithms have been employed to implement the RIS efficiently.However,the GCN algorithm faces limitations in terms of performance enhancement owing to the due to the embedding value-vanishing problem that occurs during the learning process.To address this issue,we propose a Weighted Forwarding method using the GCN(WF-GCN)algorithm.The proposed method involves multiplying the embedding results with different weights for each hop layer during graph learning.By applying the WF-GCN algorithm,which adjusts weights for each hop layer before forwarding to the next,nodes with many neighbors achieve higher embedding values.This approach facilitates the learning of more hop layers within the GCN framework.The efficacy of the WF-GCN was demonstrated through its application to various datasets.In the MovieLens dataset,the implementation of WF-GCN in LightGCN resulted in significant performance improvements,with recall and NDCG increasing by up to+163.64%and+132.04%,respectively.Similarly,in the Last.FM dataset,LightGCN using WF-GCN enhanced with WF-GCN showed substantial improvements,with the recall and NDCG metrics rising by up to+174.40%and+169.95%,respectively.Furthermore,the application of WF-GCN to Self-supervised Graph Learning(SGL)and Simple Graph Contrastive Learning(SimGCL)also demonstrated notable enhancements in both recall and NDCG across these datasets. 展开更多

This work focuses on the problem of monitoring the coastline, which in Portugal’s case means monitoring 3007 kilometers, including 1793 maritime borders with the Atlantic Ocean to the south and west. The human burden on the coast becomes a problem, both because erosion makes the cliffs unstable and because pollution increases, making the fragile dune ecosystem difficult to preserve. It is becoming necessary to increase the control of access to beaches, even if it is not a popular measure for internal and external tourism. The methodology described can also be used to monitor maritime borders. The use of images acquired in the infrared range guarantees active surveillance both day and night, the main objective being to mimic the infrared cameras already installed in some critical areas along the coastline. Using a series of infrared photographs taken at low angles with a modified camera and appropriate filter, a recent deep learning algorithm with the right training can simultaneously detect and count whole people at close range and people almost completely submerged in the water, including partially visible targets, achieving a performance with F1 score of 0.945, with 97% of targets correctly identified. This implementation is possible with ordinary laptop computers and could contribute to more frequent and more extensive coverage in beach/border surveillance, using infrared cameras at regular intervals. It can be partially automated to send alerts to the authorities and/or the nearest lifeguards, thus increasing monitoring without relying on human resources. 展开更多

In the design process of berm breakwaters, their front slope recession has an inevitable rule in large number of model tests, and this parameter being studied. This research draws its data from Moghim's and Shekari's experiment results. These experiments consist of two different 2D model tests in two wave flumes, in which the berm recession to different sea state and structural parameters have been studied. Irregular waves with a JONSWAP spectrum were used in both test series. A total of 412 test results were used to cover the impact of sea state conditions such as wave height, wave period, storm duration and water depth at the toe of the structure, and structural parameters such as berm elevation from still water level, berm width and stone diameter on berm recession parameters. In this paper, a new set of equations for berm recession is derived using the M5' model tree as a machine learning approach. A comparison is made between the estimations by the new formula and the formulae recently given by other researchers to show the preference of new M5' approach. 展开更多
