Over the past decades,video games have exploded in popularity,as thousands of enchanting games are released every year and millions of people become big fans of video games and this potential market offers plenty of w...Over the past decades,video games have exploded in popularity,as thousands of enchanting games are released every year and millions of people become big fans of video games and this potential market offers plenty of working opportunities for transla?tors,especially for those who major on English to Chinese translation due to China's dense population and millions of players.Howev?er,there are several challenges in terms of translating video games,for example,coined words and ambiguous terms,because most of them exist in merely made-up stories and virtual worlds created by programmers.Though it is challenging to some extent,the presen?tation that I have done on translating magic spells in Harry Pottery and its feedback provide me with insights into the way I process translation of special terms.Hence,this paper will focus on translating magic items in the most popular online game—League of Leg?ends from English to Chinese and the purpose of this paper is trying to find ways to produce a high quality translation.By using differ?ent techniques,the translation need be readable and understandable for e-players in China or it could preserve its original flavor to maintain and attract more fans of this game.This paper will introduce general background information about this game and some magic items.Afterwards,it will point out potential challenges when translating these magic items and apply translation strategies and tech?niques to deal with the difficulties and,in turn,evaluating these approaches.Finally,some thoughts and viable methods for translating magic items in video game field will be surmised.展开更多

Geodashboards are often designed with explanatory elements guiding users.These elements(e.g.legends or annotations)need to be carefully designed to mitigate split attention or information integration issues.In this pa...Geodashboards are often designed with explanatory elements guiding users.These elements(e.g.legends or annotations)need to be carefully designed to mitigate split attention or information integration issues.In this paper,we report expert interviews followed by a controlled experiment where we compare two interface designs with a focus on the split attention effect:(1)a multiple-legend layout with explanatory elements located next to each view,and(2)a single-legend layout with all explanatory elements gathered in one place.Different legend layouts did not affect the performance,but affected user satisfaction.75%of the participants preferred the multiple-legend layout,and rated it with a higher usability score,mainly attributing this preference to the proximity of legend elements to the view of interest.Eye tracking data strongly and clearly verifies that participants indeed make use of the proximity:With the single-legend,the majority of eye-movement transitions were between the single-legend and the closest view to the legend,whereas with multiple-legend participants have shorter and more frequent legend visits,as well as more transitions between legends and views.Taken together,the design lesson we learned from this experiment can be summarized as‘split the legend elements,but make it close to the explained elements’.展开更多

This article has the objective of studying the myth of the vagina dentata.Based on an exploratory review of the literature and on clinical experience,the present article discusses this myth through manifestations of t...This article has the objective of studying the myth of the vagina dentata.Based on an exploratory review of the literature and on clinical experience,the present article discusses this myth through manifestations of the archetype of the Terrible Mother and its manifestations in the contemporaneous clinic in the context of Analytical Psychology.The presence of the myth will first be considered in the context of cultural anthropology and then specifically on the basis of Neumann’s Analytical Psychology.In this article the author shows how the manifestation of the Terrible Mother is related to the archetype of the Great Mother,represented by horrendous figures such as serpents,gorgons,and the Egyptian Mother Goddess.The Terrible Mother has a devouring aspect and,in some cultures,is often intertwined with the symbol of the vagina dentata.Later,in the clinical context,these archetypical manifestations will be associated to intense degrees of anxiety associated with the anima in male patients,feeding intense degrees of aggressiveness in the shades of individuals of the male sex.In conclusion,the author emphasises the importance of manifestations of the Terrible Mother as depicted in individual symbols,in view of the process of individuation in clinical settings.展开更多
