I do - simply because it wasn't that long ago. However, as technology hurtles along at the speed of light, it might have escaped some people's attention that all these three devices now come together in the form of a smartphone, There's no need to carry all three devices when visiting a tourist site or monument - your handy smartphone can take a picture, log on to the Internet to post your picture on social media, and then use the calling function to tell your friends about the pictures you've just posted.展开更多

Currently, people's lives cannot be analyzed using a macro-perspective, marked by partitioning phases, but the various stages we undergo from childhood to the third age are being overlapped and this is reflected with particular relevance in the field of learning, where the notion of lifelong learning is present in our personal, social and professional everyday contexts, in Portugal, the New Opportunities Initiative is building new and innovative education and training pathways, which privilege the autobiographical methods, where adults, from their life stories, are challenged to resort to new ways of valuing their experiences, potentiating the acquisition of new skills, in a logic of personal, social and professional empowerments. This formative/training logic has shown to be the promoter of a growing autonomy from the adults. We will present, here, the qualitative multi-case study we are developing in this area, which is centered on adults'/professionals' autobiographies and focuses on the understanding of adult education, lifelong learning and on the analysis of the mediation figures associated with them.展开更多

It analyses learning processes and identity development in the emerging profession of child care with concrete examples from empirical research, based on a life history approach. It discusses examples of careers mainly based on students’ life experience, pointing out that their immediate success in the workplace may inhibit an even better qualification they had been spurred to critical reflection. It further follows a sample of students through their theoretical education and trainee periods, illuminating their changing identification with and understanding of their future work, and their learning of professional knowledge and competences. The conclusion is that the new 3.5 year education in child care pedagogy clearly improves the professional competences of child care, but it also identifies a set of further specific challenges to be met for the development of real professional competences.展开更多
