Flow field, sedimentation, and erosion characteristics around folded linear HDPE sheet sand fence: Numerical simulation study

Wind and sand hazards are serious in the Milan Gobi area of the Xinjiang section of the Korla Railway. In order to ensure the safe operation of railroads, there is a need for wind and sand protection in heavily sandy areas. The wind and sand flow in the region is notably bi-directional. To shield railroads from sand, a unique sand fence made of folded linear high-density polyethylene(HDPE) is used, aligning with the principle that the dominant wind direction is perpendicular to the fence. This study employed field observations and numerical simulations to investigate the effectiveness of these HDPE sand fences in altering flow field distribution and offering protection. It also explored how these fences affect the deposition and erosion of sand particles. Findings revealed a significant reduction in wind speed near the fence corner;the minimum horizontal wind speed on the leeward side of the first sand fence(LSF) decreased dramatically from 3 m/s to 0.64 m/s. The vortex area on the LSF markedly impacted horizontal wind speeds. Within the LSF, sand deposition was a primary occurrence. As wind speeds increased, the deposition zone shrank, whereas the positive erosion zone expanded. Close to the folded corners of the HDPE sand fence, there was a notable shift from the positive erosion zone to a deposition zone. Field tests and numerical simulations confirmed the high windproof efficiency(WE) and sand resistance efficiency(SE) in the HDPE sand fence. Folded linear HDPE sheet sand fence can effectively slow down the incoming flow and reduce the sand content, thus achieving good wind and sand protection. This study provides essential theoretical guidance for the design and improvement of wind and sand protection systems in railroad engineering. 展开更多

The high controllability and high resolution control of linear ultrasonic motors depend on effective control of driving signals.For a good control characteristic,step control which the driver output turned off and on was used.Therefore,a novel dual PWM topology structure ultrasonic motor driver was designed and analyzed.According to the characteristics of the circuits,two kinds of hardware turned off methods named methods A and B were discussed.The differences of the voltage applied on motor by different methods were figured out.Finally,a series of experiments were carried out in the clean room to study the influence of step characteristic by different turn off methods.The experimental results show that the steplength was 230 nm by method A and 125 nm by method B,while cycles of driving signals were 6.The method B has a smaller steplength when cycles are 6.The average steplength varies in non-linear while driving cycles changing.The steplength varies approximately in linear while voltage amplitude changing.Therefore,method B is better to implement step control,because it gets a better control in positioning system. 展开更多

The direct numerical simulation method is adopted to study the non-linear characteristics of Rayleigh-Taylor instable perturbations at the ablation front of a 200 μm planar CH ablation target. In the simulation, the classical electrical thermal conductivity is included, and NND difference scheme is used. The linear growth rates obtained from the simulation agree with the Takabe formula. The ampli- tude distribution of the density perturbation at the ablation front is obtained for the linear growth case. The non-linear characteristics of Rayleigh-Taylor instable perturbations are analyzed and the numerical results show that the amplitude distributions of the compulsive harmonics are very different from that of the fundamental perturbation. The characteristics of the amplitude distributions of the harmonics and their fast growth explain why spikes occur at the ablation front. The numerical results also show that non-linear effects have relations with the phase differences of double mode initial perturbations, and different phase differences lead to varied spikes. 展开更多

There are clearances in mechanism because of manufacture and assembly error,which reduces operation life and working accuracy of mechanism and has a great impact on dynamical responses.At the moment,research in this area mainly focuses on single degree⁃of⁃freedom mechanism considering one clearance,while research of multi⁃DOF mechanism considering multi⁃clearance is less.With the purpose of studying the dynamical characteristics of complex multi⁃DOF mechanism with multi⁃clearances,a dynamic model was developed.The dynamic responses of 2⁃DOF mechanism with two clearances under different positions,values,and numbers of clearance were analyzed.The displacement,velocity,acceleration,collision force,and the axis trajectory at clearance were then given.In addition,there is a limited amount of literature on chaotic phenomena,which mainly focuses on the chaotic phenomena of end⁃effector of mechanism.But in this paper,the non⁃linear characteristics were analyzed by chaotic phenomenon of clearance joint,then chaotic phenomenon was identified by Poincarémappings and phase diagrams.Bifurcation diagrams were given.The results will offer a reliable technical support for the study of dynamical responses of planar mechanisms and the analysis of chaotic phenomena. 展开更多

Cold atmospheric plasma(CAP)jet has wide applications in various fields including advanced materials synthesis and modifications,biomedicine,environmental protection and energy saving,etc.Appropriate control on the volume,temperature and chemically reactive species concentratio ns of the CAP jet is of great importance in actual applications.In this paper,an radio-frequency atmospheric-pressure glow discharge(RF-APGD)plasma generator with a hybrid cross-linear-field electrode configuration is proposed.The experimental results show that,with the aid of the copper mesh located at the downstream of the traditional co-axial-type plasma generator with a cross-field electrode configuration,a linear field between the inner powered electrode of the traditional plasma generator and the copper mesh can be established.This linerfield can,to some extent,enhance the discharges at the upstream of the copper mesh,resulting in small increments(all less than 12.5%)of the species emission intensities,electron excitation temperatures and gas temperatures by keeping other parameters being unchanged.And due to the intrinsic transparent and conducting features of the grounded copper mesh to the gas flowing,electric current and heat flux of the plasma plumes,a plasma region with higher concentrations of chemically reactive species and larger plasma plume diameters is obtained at the downstream of the grounded copper mesh on the same level of the gas temperature and electron excitation temperature compared to those of the plasma free jet.In addition,the charged particle number densities at the same downstream axial location of the grounded copper mesh decrease significantly compared to those of the plasma free jet.This means that the copper mesh is also,to some extent,helpful for separating the chemically reactive neutral species from the charged particles in side a plasma environment.The preceding results indicate that the cross-linear-field electrode configuration of the plasma generator is an effective approach for tuning the characteristics of the RF-APGD plasma jet in order to obtain an appropriate combination of the plasma jet properties with higher chemically reactive species concentrations,especially relative higher number densities of neutral species,larger plasma volumes and lower gas temperatures. 展开更多

The analysis of natural vibration characteristics has become one of important steps of the manufacture and dynamic design in the aerospace industry. This paper presents a new scenario called virtual cutting in the context of the transfer matrix method of linear multibody systems closed- loop topology for computing the free vibration characteristics of elastically coupled flexible launch vehicle boosters. In this approach, the coupled system is idealized as a triple-beam system-like structure coupled by linear translational springs, where a non-uniform free-free Euler-Bemoulli beam is used. A large thrust-to-weight ratio leads to large axial accelera- tions that result in an axial inertia load distribution from nose to tail. Consequently, it causes the development of significant compressive forces along the length of the launch vehicle. Therefore, it is important to take into account this effect in the transverse vibration model. This scenario does not need the global dynamics equations of a system, and it has high computational efficiency and low memory requirements. The validity of the presented scenario is achieved through com- parison to other approaches published in the literature. 展开更多

A hydraulic power unit (HPU) is the driving "heart" of deep-sea working equipment. It is critical to predict its dynamic performances in deep-water before being immerged in the seawater, while the experimental tests by simulating deep-sea environment have many disadvantages, such as expensive cost, long test cycles, and difficult to achieve low-temperature simulation, which is only used as a supplementary means for confirmatory experiment. This paper proposes a novel theoretical approach based on the linear varying parameters (LVP) modeling to foresee the dynamic performances of the driving unit. Firstly, based on the varying environment features, dynamic expressions of the compressibility and viscosity of hydranlic oil are derived to reveal the fluid performances changing. Secondly, models of hydraulic system and electrical system are accomplished respectively through studying the control process and energy transfer, and then LVP models of the pressure and flow rate control is obtained through the electro-hydraulic models integration. Thirdly, dynamic characteristics of HPU are obtained by the model simulating within bounded closed sets of varying parameters. Finally, the developed HPU is tested in a deep-sea imitating hull, and the experimental results are well consistent with the theoretical analysis outcomes, which clearly declare that the LVP modeling is a rational way to foresee dynamic performances of HPU. The research approach and model analysis results can be applied to the predictions of working properties and product designs for other deep-sea hydraulic pump. 展开更多

In a gas governor unit, gas pressure vibration often occurs in the tube that connects the diaphragm chamber of the pilot valve to the downstream pipeline. Generally, placing a restriction such as an orifice in the tube can curb the vibration. However, because of the nonlinear flow rate characteristics of an orifice, the gain of the pressure response changes with changing amplitude of the pressure vibration. This paper proposes a method that employs porous materials for improving the characteristics of the gas pressure control system on account of their linear flow rate characteristics. A static flow rate characteristics experiment was performed and the linear flow rate characteristics of the porous materials were confirmed. Then, a series of dynamic pressure response experiments, in which an isothermal chamber replaced the diaphragm chamber, were performed to examine the dynamic characteristics of the porous materials and an orifice. The experimental results revealed that the gain of the pressure response in the isothermal chamber with the porous materials remained unchanged irrespective of changes in the pressure vibration amplitude, and they were in close agreement with the simulation results. They also indicated that the pressure gain of porous materials is smaller than that of an orifice when the amplitude of pressure vibration is small. These results demonstrate that porous materials can be employed instead of an orifice in the gas governor unit in order to improve the unit’s stability. 展开更多

Using the transfer matrix method the required dispersion relations are obtained. Here the linear and exponential plasma density profiles are considered and compared with the homogeneous plasma having uniform density profile. It is observed that the inhomogeneity in plasma layer highly affect dispersion curves. By comparing the dispersion curves obtained in all considered cases, it is found that the widths of band gaps and phase velocities are always larger for exponential density profile than the linear uniform density profiles in the considered frequency range. 展开更多

It is a successful estimation strategy if the predicted points fall in the target area. If the object makes a sudden maneuvering, the prediction may get out of the target area easily which may make the tracking system lose the object. The aim is to investigate the admissible maximum object maneuvering intensity, which is characterized as model noise variance, for such kind of tracking system. Firstly, the concept of stochastic passage characteristics over the boundary of target area and their relationship with prediction error variance are described. Secondly, the consistency among the indices of regional pole, prediction error variance and stochastic passage characteristics is analyzed. Thirdly, the multi-indices constraints are characterized by a set of bi-linear matrix inequalities (BMIs). Then, the admissible maximum model noise variance and the satisfactory estimation strategy are presented by iteratively solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to approximate BMIs. Based on a systemic survey, the pyrolysis characteristics and apparent kinetics of the mu- nicipal solid waste (MSW) under different conditions were researched using a special pyrolysis re- actor, which could overcome the disadvantage of thermo-gravimetric analyzer. The thermal decom- position behaviour of MSW was investigated using thermo-gravimetric ( TG ) analysis at rates of 4.8, 6.6, 8.4, 12.0 and 13.2 K/min. The pyrolysis characteristics of MSW were also studied in dif- ferent function districts. The pyrolysis of MSW is a complex reaction process and three main stages are found according to the results. The first stage represents the degradation of cellulose and hemi- cellulose, with the maximum degradation rate occuring at 150 °C—200 °C; the second stage repre- sents dehydrochlorination and depolymerization of intermediate products and the differential thermo- gravimetric ( DTG) curves have shoulder peaks at about 300 °C; the third stage is the decomposi- tion of the residual big molecular organic substance and lignin at 400 °C—600 °C. Within the range of given experimental conditions, the results of non-linear fitting algorithm and experiment are in agreement with each other and the correlation coefficients are over 0.99. The kinetic characteristics are concerned with the material component and heating rate. The activation energy of reaction de- creases with the increase of heating rate. 展开更多

无铁芯超导直线同步电机(superconducting linear synchronous motor,SLSM)具有推力密度高、工作气隙大等优势,是超导磁浮列车的动力核心。由于会不可避免地受到弯道、道岔、横风和电源谐波等因素的影响,磁浮列车在运行过程中将发生多... 无铁芯超导直线同步电机(superconducting linear synchronous motor,SLSM)具有推力密度高、工作气隙大等优势,是超导磁浮列车的动力核心。由于会不可避免地受到弯道、道岔、横风和电源谐波等因素的影响,磁浮列车在运行过程中将发生多自由度运动,使电机次级姿态发生滚转或偏移,致使超导直线电机的电磁力性能发生改变,进而影响列车的运行稳定性。针对多变电机次级姿态下高温超导直线同步电机的三维力特性展开研究,首先分析悬浮车体多自由度运动对直线电机次级姿态的影响,并建立计算SLSM三维电磁力的有限元模型;其次,通过搭建超导同步直线电机样机,实验验证模型的有效性;最后,基于该模型研究无铁芯SLSM次级在发生横向偏移、法向偏移、侧滚、俯仰以及偏航条件下的三维电磁力输出特性及其变化规律,为超导磁浮列车运行性能优化提供了理论依据。 展开更多

降低声爆水平是下一代超声速运输机研制需要解决的关键问题之一。低声爆优化通常使飞行器布局向着机翼后掠角增大、机翼沿机身方向分布范围增大的趋势发展,给飞行器的配平和低速特性带来不利影响。以某超声速客机基本构型为研究对象,建... 降低声爆水平是下一代超声速运输机研制需要解决的关键问题之一。低声爆优化通常使飞行器布局向着机翼后掠角增大、机翼沿机身方向分布范围增大的趋势发展,给飞行器的配平和低速特性带来不利影响。以某超声速客机基本构型为研究对象,建立基于类别/形状函数的翼身组合体参数化建模方法;基于超声速线化理论分析外形几何参数对声爆水平的影响。在此基础上,分别针对机身轮廓、机翼平面形状以及扭转角分布对该构型进行低声爆优化和俯仰力矩特性优化,并采用CFD方法对优化结果进行校核。结果表明:与基准构型相比,在不显著增加俯仰力矩的基础上,优化构型的阻力降低了19 cts,近场过压显著降低,地面声爆响度降低5.1 PLdB。 展开更多
