In this study, fructose and glucose contents in honey were determined by liquid chromatography-refractive index detection method and alkaline copper tartrate solution-direct titration method. According to the results, there were great differences between determination results of reducing sugar contents by liquid chromatography-refractive index detection method and alkaline copper tartrate solution-direct titration method. Specifically, average determination results of reducing sugar contents by liquid chromatography-refractive index detection method were reduced by about 9.5% compared with alkaline copper tartrate solution-direct titra- tion method. Subsequently, determination results of reducing sugar contents by two methods were compared and analyzed. Liquid chromatography-refractive index detection method was used to determine fructose and glucose monomers in honey, but alkaline copper tartrate solution-direct titration method was used to determine reducing sugar composition in honey, which might lead to significantly different results. Due to small sample size and limited conditions, the determination results were not necessarily representative. Bee product acquisition and processing enterprises and relevant departments should pay much attention on these issues and fully consider the current situation of grass-roots units to develop scientific, rigorous, simple, universal, convenient, low-cost and practicable standards, thus ensuring the safety and reliability of food quality. 展开更多

A metal-clad planar polymer waveguide refractive index sensor based on epoxy(EPO)polymer materials by using light intensity interrogation at 850 nm is designed.The polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)material is deployed as the low refractive index(RI)buffer layer in order to better couple the optical guided mode and the surface plasmon polaritons(SPP)mode for working in water environment.The effects of the gold film thickness,PMMA buffer layer thickness,waveguide layer thickness,waveguide width,and gold length on the sensor sensing characteristics have been comprehensively studied.Simulation results demonstrate that the normalized transmission increases quasi-linearly with the increment of RI of the analyte from 1.33 to 1.46.The sensitivity is 491.5 dB/RIU,corresponding to a high RI resolution of 2.6×10^(9)RIU.The designed SPP-based optical waveguide sensor is low-cost,wide-range,and high-precision,and has a broad application prospect in biochemical sensing with merits of miniaturization,flexibility,and multiplexing. 展开更多

Physical properties including refractive index, density, viscosity and conductivity for binary mixtures of l-butyl- 3-methyl imidazolium chloride ([BMIM]CI) and different organic solvents at 298.15 K have been investigated. Ex- cess molar volumes have been calculated and obtained data has been fitted by the Redlich-Kister equation. The density and refractive index were found to increase with increasing concentration of [BMIM]CI, however, excep- tions do exist as in the case of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)/[BMIM]CI. For DMSO/[BMIM]CI, the density decreases with increasing concentration. The addition of different organic solvents was able to disrupt the interactions within mixtures, leading to free mobility of ions. The free mobility of ions has been found to enhance conductivity and decrease viscosity to varying extents in all mixtures studied. It has been observed that solubility parameters, dielectric constants and composition of the solvents used play a vital role in determining the resultant properties. The data obtained will play an important role in understanding the effect of the addition of organic solvents in ILs to enhance their applicability. 展开更多
