We developed a general framework for parallel all-optical logic operations with independent phase control of arbitrary orthogonal polarization state enabled by a single-layer metasurface.A pair of orthogonal circular polarized bases are used as two input channels of the logic operator,and their four combinations perfectly match various binary input states.Correspondingly,distinct phase profiles are encoded into the metasurface,which enables parallel operation of the two logic gates by way of polarization switching.It allows for an efficient and compact way to implement multi-channel multiplexed logic gate operations with the capability of fast optical computing at the chip scale. 展开更多

Supercapacitor has been widely known as a representative electrochemical energy storage device with high power density and long lifespan.Recently,with the deeper understanding of its charge storage mechanism,unidirectional-charging supercapacitor,also called supercapacitor diode(CAPode),is successfully developed based on the ion-sieving effect of its working electrode towards electrolyte ions.Because CAPode integrates mobile ion and mobile electron in one hybrid circuit,it has a great potential in the emerging fields of ion/electron coupling logic operations,human–machine interface,neural network interaction,and in vivo diagnosis and treatment.Accordingly,we herein elucidate the working mechanism and design philosophy of CAPode,and summarize the electrode materials that are suitable for constructing CAPode.Meanwhile,some other supercapacitor-based devices beyond CAPode are also introduced,and their potential applications are instructively presented.Finally,we outline the challenges and chances of CAPode-related techniques. 展开更多

This paper proposes a kind of programmable logic element(PLE)based on Sense-Switch pFLASH technology.By programming Sense-Switch pFLASH,all three-bit look-up table(LUT3)functions,partial four-bit look-up table(LUT4)functions,latch functions,and d flip flop(DFF)with enable and reset functions can be realized.Because PLE uses a choice of operational logic(COOL)approach for the operation of logic functions,it allows any logic circuit to be implemented at any ratio of combinatorial logic to register.This intrinsic property makes it close to the basic application specific integrated circuit(ASIC)cell in terms of fine granularity,thus allowing ASIC-like cell-based mappers to apply all their optimization potential.By measuring Sense-Switch pFLASH and PLE circuits,the results show that the“on”state driving current of the Sense-Switch pFLASH is about 245.52μA,and that the“off”state leakage current is about 0.1 pA.The programmable function of PLE works normally.The delay of the typical combinatorial logic operation AND3 is 0.69 ns,and the delay of the sequential logic operation DFF is 0.65 ns,both of which meet the requirements of the design technical index. 展开更多

By anchoring Tb^(3+)ions on its free carboxyl groups of the nanocaged NiMOF,a dual-emission self-calibrating sensor of Tb^(3+)@NiMOF was fabricated through coordination post-synthetic modification(PSM)strategy.With Tb^(3+)ions as the secondary fluorescent signal and sensing active sites,Tb^(3+)@NiMOF presents great potentials in visually and efficiently monitoring EPI in serum,with high sensitivity and selectivity,fast response,excellent recyclable,and the low detection limit(LOD,3.06 ng/mL).Furthermore,a tandem combinational logic gate based intelligent detection system was constructed to improve the practicability and convenience of epinephrine(EPI)detection in serum by comparing the light emitted colour with the series standard colour cards preset in the smartphone.This work provides a promising approach of developing metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)based self-calibrating sensors for intelligent detection of bioactive molecules. 展开更多

Automatic Generation of Water Masks from RapidEye Images

The aim of this research was to dev... Water is a very important natural resource and it supports all life forms on earth. It is used by humans in various ways including drinking, agriculture and for scientific research. The aim of this research was to develop a routine to automatically extract water masks from RapidEye images, which could be used for further investigation such as water quality monitoring and change detection. A Python-based algorithm was therefore developed for this particular purpose. The developed routine combines three spectral indices namely Simple Ratios (SRs), Normalized Green Index (NGI) and Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI). The two SRs are calculated between the NIR and green band, and between the NIR and red band. The NGI is calculated by rationing the green band to the sum of all bands in each image. The NDWI is calculated by differencing the green to the NIR and dividing by the sum of the green and NIR bands. The routine generates five intermediate water masks, which are spatially intersected to create a single intermediate water mask. In order to remove very small waterbodies and any remaining gaps in the intermediate water mask, morphological opening and closing were performed to generate the final water mask. This proposed algorithm was used to extract water masks from some RapidEye images. It yielded an Overall Accuracy of 95% and a mean Kappa Statistic of 0.889 using the confusion matrix approach. 展开更多

We demonstrate a synaptic transistor that uses a thermally crosslinked three-dimensional network to accommodate ionic liquid to form an ion gel layer. The synaptic transistor successfully emulated important synaptic plasticity, such as paired-pulse facilitation, spike-number dependent plasticity, spike-voltage dependent plasticity, and spike-rate dependent plasticity;these responses imply successful use of the ion gel. Moreover, the device realized “OR” and “AND” logic operations, and high-pass filtering behavior. Energy consumption of the device can be reduced to sub-femtojoule level, which is below that of biological synapses. Compared with traditional physical cross-linking using block copolymers, this method provides a facile strategy to prepare ion gels with tunable properties by altering the polymers and crosslinkers,and to enormously reduce the price by replacing expensive block copolymers or eliminating additional synthesis processes. This report provides a versatile strategy for design of synaptic transistors and their applications in neuromorphic electronics. 展开更多

Hydrogen peroxide(H2O2),as a signaling molecule,plays a vital role in a wide variety of signaling transduction processes,aging,and diseases.However,the excessive production of H2O2 causes various diseases.Herein,we develop a novel method for H2O2 detection in live cells via dark-field scattering spectroscopy with gold triangular nanoprisms(AuTNPs)as probes.The corners of AuTNPs would be gradually oxidatively etched by the strong coordination of Br•which is generated by enzymatic reactions in the presence of horseradish peroxidase(HRP),bromide ion and trace hydrogen peroxide.Benefitting from the morphological change,the single AuTNP based plasmonic nanoprobe shows notable blueshifts and scattering color changes which could be real-time monitored under the dark-field microscopy.The peak position in the scattering spectra of individual AuTNP blueshifts linearly with the increase of H2O2 concentration,and exhibits high sensitivity to H2O2 in a large range from 2.5 to 100µM with a low detection limit(LOD)of 0.74µM.Moreover,the experimental results were supported by the simulated results via the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD)method.The nanoprobes have been further used for intracellular H2O2 detection in live cells.Besides,the etching of AuTNP also provides an alternative method to design novel plasmonic logic chips and write-once plasmonic memories. 展开更多
