In the valleys of the Tuhai, Majia and lower Huanghe rivers, piled-up-on-sandbank settlements were often built in anciently abandoned river courses, and thereafter were repeatedly piled higher in thousands of years. Most of them began to be built in the Longshan period, so they are mistaken for city-sites of the Longshan culture.
