The structures and properties of Konjac glucoman...To understand the effect of plasma treatment on the Konjac glucomannan film, the nitrogen plasma was injected into the film by ion beam injection machine in this study. The structures and properties of Konjac glucomannan film after plasma treatment were analyzed by Infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectrum, X-ray, ect. The result showed that nitrogen groups appeared in the KGM molecular chain and part of this chain fractured, and the number of hydrogen bonds increased after the treatment of plasma. The form of KGM molecule remained amorphous non-crystalline state, but the crystalline region was increased and became more ordered. The mechanical property of tensile strength and breaking elongation was improved, while the WVP was decreased. The nitrogen groups were grafted on the KGM molecular chain after plasma treatment, which led to the improvement of the properties of KGM film.展开更多

Owing to its good mechanical property, the GO sheet is always expected to be stable and remains flat on various substrates. Here we demonstrate for the first time an unexpected behavior of the GO sheet on oxygen deficient ZnO film, namely the spontaneous cracking of the entire GO sheet into many small pieces. This unusual behavior has been carefully investigated by a series of control experiments and SEM, XPS and PL measurements. It is anticipated that the oxygen vacancies in the oxygen deficient ZnO film can annihilate epoxy groups of the GO sheet, resulting in the unzipping of the aligned epoxy groups on GO sheet. A prototype of the white light detector made from the cracked GO sheet is fabricated and the device demonstrates high stability and good reproducibility.展开更多
We investigate the liquid-crystal (LC) alignment direction on photoalignment films formed from photosensitive polyester containing thrifluoromethyl moieties (PPDA) with various molecular weights by crossed polariz...We investigate the liquid-crystal (LC) alignment direction on photoalignment films formed from photosensitive polyester containing thrifluoromethyl moieties (PPDA) with various molecular weights by crossed polarized optical microscopy. It is found that LC alignment behaviour changes with molecular weight of PPDA. The LC alignment on PPDA irradiated films with the highest molecular weight is homogeneous, while those with low and intermediate molecular weights are homeotropic. However, surface morphologies show weak dependence on molecular weight. The surfaces are smooth and there is no clear morphological anisotropy on these aligned films observed by an atomic force microscope. The surface energies of the irradiated films are also measured by using an indirect contact-angle method where both surface energy and its polar component, increase with increasing molecular weight. Different polar surface energies can be considered as a main reason for different alignment characteristics.展开更多

We investigated and simulated this effect numerically in a 1-D non-periodic film structure-Fabry-Perot filters (FPF), which possess drastic change in phase and large group delay around wavelength of peak transmittance, and fabricated this device to realize remarkable superprism effect. We tested experimentally with the maximum spatial separation shift up to 65 μm, and the experimental result is in good agreement with the theory. Compared with the traditional prism, the total thickness of our structure is only 3.3 μm, and our prism shows a stronger angular resolution of 1.8°/nm.展开更多
