It is found that the polarization-induced potential drop leads to an asymmetric potential profile of AlxGa(1-x)N/GaN DQWs even though the two wells have the same width and depth. The polarization effects result in a very large Stark shift between the odd and even order subbands, thus shortening the wavelength of the ISBT between the first odd order and the second even order (1odd-2 ) subbands. Meanwhile, the electron distribution becomes asymmetric due to the polarization effects, and the absorption coefficient of the 1odd-2 ISBT decreases with increasing polarization field discontinuity.展开更多

The results show that the intersubband absorption coefficient increases with increasing polarization while the transition wavelength decreases, which is not identical to the case of the interband transitions. Moreover, it suggests that the well width has a greater effect on the intersubband transitions than the barrier thickness, and the intersubband transition wavelength of the structure when doped in the barrier is shorter than that when doped in the well. It is found that the influences of the structural parameters differ for different electron subbands. The mechanisms responsible for these effects have been investigated in detail.展开更多

Based on the Curie principle, the order parameter is determined to be a third-order complete symmetry polarization tensor. To take into account of quantum effects, the dielectric permittivity is measured from Landau free energy, and the Curie Weiss-type behavior is analyzed. From crystallization chemistry viewpoint, the dielectric behavior at low temperature is connected to small radius of Sr^2+, which is much easier to move around the oxygen octahedral than Ba^2+ in BaTiO3 or Pb^2+ in PbTiO3.展开更多

These transitions were found to be composed of the initiation of a new phase at local places of the old phase matrix and the growth of the new phase: domains. The kinetics of the liquid-crystallization of the polymer from an isotropic melt to a smectic mesophase was also investigated. The isothermal process of the transition can be described by the Avrami equation. The values of the Avrami exponent were found to be around 2.6. which is lower than the value usually obtained for crystallization transition of polymers, but larger than that reported for liquid-crystallization transition of main-chain polymers. These results may indicate the difference in growth geometry of new phase during transition between crystallization and liquid-crystallization in general and between liquid-crystallization of main-chain and side-chain polymers. It was found that the liquid-crystallization of the used side-chain polymethacrylate may occur at small undercoolings with high transformation rate similar to that of main-chain polymers and small-molecule liquid crystals, while the crystallization of polymers can only proceed at large undercoolings. These phenomena can be explained by the idea that the surface free energy of nucleus during liquid-crystallization transition is less than that for crystallization, and evidence was obtained from analysis of the temperature dependence of the transformation rate.展开更多

To understand these early events we analyzed a set of 125 genes related to cell polarity, EMT and cell-fate decision in 26 breast cancer specimens and corresponding patient-matched normal tissue. Methods: The difference of gene expression was explored by t-paired test. In addition, to evidence latent variables accounting for genes correlations, a Factor Analysis was applied as exploratory technique. Results: Among the 90 differentially expressed genes, those coding for cell polarity complexes, apical-junctional components and luminal cytokeratins were overexpressed in tumor samples (suggesting a terminally differentiated phenotype) whereas those coding for stemness-associated features or related with EMT were expressed in normal tissues but not in tumor samples, suggesting the persistence of stem/progenitor cells. Factor analysis confirmed these findings and indicated that the difference between tumors and normal tissues can be synthesized in three main features representative of specific molecular/morphological alterations. Conclusions: The a priori definition of a selected panel of genes and the application of an exploratory statistical approach, greatly contribute to reduce the intrinsic biological complexity of tumor specimens and to describe the difference between tumor specimens and corresponding histologically normal tissues.展开更多

An investigation of the rock magnetic properties using hysteresis loops, thermomagnetic analyses identifies pseudo-single domain magnetite as the main carrier of the rema-nence, with a small contribution from maghemite and hema-tite. The paleo-direction records obtained reveal: ( i ) The M-B transition was recorded in the middle and lower part of L8, and comprises of five fast reversals. (ii) The duration of the M-B polarity transition related to the directional change is about 4800 a. (iii) The virtual geomagnetic pole (VGP) path during the transition is confined over Africa, peaked 90° away from the sampling site, in contrast with the results obtained from the Weinan loess section. The different VGPs are probably attributed to the pedogenesis.展开更多
文摘The influence of polarization-induced electric fields on the electron distribution and the optical properties of intersubband transitions (ISBT) in AlxGa(1-x)N/GaN coupled double quantum wells (DQWs) is investigated by self-consistent calculation. Meanwhile, the electron distribution becomes asymmetric due to the polarization effects, and the absorption coefficient of the 1odd-2 ISBT decreases with increasing polarization field discontinuity.

文摘Polyelectrolyte brushes(PEBs)are commonly used to modify surface that have attracted great research interest. The dielectric permittivity of the grafted surface is typically significantly different from that of solution, which results in surface polarization(SP)effect with a jump of electric field. It is thus important to study how SP alters the PEB’s structure and properties. In this work, the SP effects on PEB structure was studied using a statistical thermodynamic theory. The free energy functional to describe SP effect was constructed by using the image-charge method.Meanwhile, the electrostatic potential was solved from a modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation taking the ion solvation effect into consideration. In the absence of SP,the thickness of PEB exhibited a continuous collapse transition when decreasing the solvent quality. In the presence of SP,the collapse became a jump-like transition.Free energy analysis showed that the long-range Coulombic interaction dominated the transition because of the enhanced counterion condensation in the presence of SP.The theory provides an effective tool to study SP effect on PEBs,and the results explain the underlying physics in PEB collapse transition.

文摘In correlated oxides, collaborative manipulation on light intensity, wavelength, pulse duration and polarization has yielded many exotic discoveries, such as phase transitions and novel quantum states. In view of potential optoelectronic applications, tailoring long-lived static properties by light-induced effects is highly desirable. So far,the polarization state of light has rarely been reported as a control parameter for this purpose. Here,we report polarization-dependent metal-to-insulator transition(MIT)in phaseseparated manganite thin films, introducing a new degree of freedom to control static MIT.Specifically,we observed giant photoinduced resistance jumps with striking features:(1)a single resistance jump occurs upon a linearly polarized light incident with a chosen polarization angle, and a second resistance jump occurs when the polarization angle changes;(2)the amplitude of the second resistance jump depends sensitively on the actual change of the polarization angles.Linear transmittance measurements reveal that the origin of the above phenomena is closely related to the coexistence of anisotropic micro-domains.Our results represent a first step to utilize light polarization as an active knob to manipulate static phase transitions, pointing towards new pathways for nonvolatile optoelectronic devices and sensors.

文摘Objective:To investigate the antiproliferative and anti-metastasis effect of Xihuang Pill(西黄丸,XP) on human colorectal cancer cell and to explore the molecular mechanism by which it produces the effects. Methods:Highly metastatic human colorectal cancer cell line LoVo was treated with low-,medium-,and highdose XP-containing serum(XP-L,XP-M,XP-H) groups for 48 h,cells intervened with no drug rat serum and PD98059[extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK) inhibitor]as negative and positive controls(NC and PC)groups.Cell proliferation assay was made using cell counting kit-8(CCK8).The 8 μm pore-size transwell chamber and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(DAPI) staining were applied to examine the ability of invasion and migration of the cells. The protein expression of ERK1/2,zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1(ZEB1),Scrib and lethal giant larvae homolog 2(Lgl2) was detected by Western blotting while the relative mRNA quantity of E-cadherin,N-cadherin,Occludin and junctional adhesion molecule-1(JAM1) was measured by realtime fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR).Results:XP induced a dose-dependent suppression on the proliferation of LoVo cells(P〈0.05 or P〈0.01),with the inhibition rates varied from 27.30%to31.08%.Transwell assay showed that when preprocessed with PD98059 and XP-containing serum, the number of cells that passed the filter decreased significantly compared with that of NC group(P〈0.05 or P〈0.01).Moreover,XP inhibited the protein expression of ERK1/2 and ZEB1(P〈0.05);and up-regulated the protein expression of Scrib and Lgl2(P〈0.05).The mRNA levels of E-cadherin,Occludin and JAM1 of the XP intervened groups and PC group markedly ascended(P〈0.05) while that of N-cadherin showed a descending tendency(P〉0.05).Conclusion:XP intervention suppressed the ability of proliferation, invasion and migration of the LoVo cells.Regulating ZEB1-SCRIB Loop so as to recover epithelial phenotype and apical junctional complex might be one of the mechanisms by which XP produces the anti-metastasis effect.

文摘A detailed record of the Matuyama-Brunhes (M-B) transition has been obtained from the loess unit 8 (L8) at Duanjiapo (34.2° N, 109.2° E), Shannxi Province of China. The different VGPs are probably attributed to the pedogenesis.
