Semiconductor optical amplifier used as regenerator for degraded differential phase-shift keying signals

Phase and amplitude regeneration are necessary for degraded differential phase-shift keying communication sys- tems. This paper proposes a regenerator based on semiconductor optical amplifier for differential phase-shift keying signals. The key regeneration mechanism is theoretically analysed. The effectiveness of semiconductor optical amplifier based regenerator is demonstrated by comparing the bit error rate and eye diagrams before and after regeneration for 40-Cbit/s differential phase-shift keying 1080-km transmission systems. The results show that regeneration effects are very well. Bit error rate is tess than 10-12 with the regenerator. 展开更多

Broad-band all-optical wavelength conversion of differential phase-shift keyed (DPSK) signal is experimentally demonstrated. This scheme is composed of a one-bit delay interferometer demodulation stage followed by a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) based nonlinear polarization switch. A wavelength converter for the 10 G b/s DPSK signal is presented, which has a wide wavelength range of more than 30 nm. The converted signals experience small power penalties less than 1.4 dB compared with the original signal, at a bit error rate of 10-9. Additionally, the optical spectra, the measured waveforms and the open eye diagrams of the converted signals show a high quality wavelength conversion performance. 展开更多

A phase-domain blind estimator of symbol duration based on Haar wavelet transform(HWT) is proposed.It can estimate the symbol duration of phase modulated signals,such as M-ary phase-shift keying(MPSK) signals and polyphase coded signals.The closed form of the spectrum of HWT is derived.Theoretical analysis shows the frequency of the first spectral peak is equal to the symbol rate,which is the reciprocal of symbol duration.Thus the symbol duration can be extracted from the spectrum.Subsequently,the optimum wavelet scale is determined according to the maximum output signal to noise ratio(OSNR) criterion.MAT-LAB simulations show that this algorithm can blindly estimate the symbol duration without any prior knowledge.This estimator need not estimate the carrier frequency and has the characteristics of low computation complexity and high accuracy. 展开更多

We analyze a feasible high-sensitivity homodyne coherent optical receiver for demodulating optical quadrature phase-shift keying(QPSK). A fourth-power phase-lock loop based on a digital look-up table is used. Considering the non-negligible loop delay, we optimize the loop natural frequency. Without error correction coding, a sensitivity of -37 dBm/-35 dBm is achieved, while the bit error rate is below 10-9 at 2.5 Gbaud/5 Gbaud rate.For the QPSK communication system, the bit rate is twice the baud rate. The loop natural frequency is 0.647 Mrad/s, and the minimized steady-state phase-error standard deviation is 3.83°. 展开更多

We propose and experimentally demonstrate mutual optical format conversion between signals characterized as 10-Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero on-of-keying(NRZ-OOK) and NRZ binary phase-shift keying(BPSK) types. The conversion is based on stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS) in a single-mode optical fber. An OOK signal is converted into a BPSK signal through optical carrier absorption, for which a SBS loss of 30 MHz is used in long-haul transmission. The converted BPSK signal is reverted to an OOK signal with a corresponding SBS gain of 30 MHz for direct detection. The proposed OOK-to-BPSK and BPSK-to-OOK format conversions can be implemented in transmitter and receiver nodes by using a laser source as the Brillouin pump. 展开更多

A parameter estimation approach of reconnaissance hybrid radar signal combined frequency-shift keying (FSK) and phase-shift keying (PSK) is presented. Firstly, the multi-phase difference is adopted to calculate the instantaneous frequency (IF) of FSK/PSK, then the frequency points of FSK are estimated from the histogram of IF. The code rate of PSK is extracted from the locations of phase discontinuity. Finally, the multi-phase difference of the square of the received signal is computed to estimate the code rate of FSK. The presented algorithm has higher accuracy of parameter estimation when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is above 11 dB. 展开更多

Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer(SWIPT)architecture is commonly applied in wireless sensors or Internet of Things(IoT)devices,providing both wireless power sources and communication channels.However,the traditional SWIPT transmitter usually suffers from cross-talk distortion caused by the high peak-to-average power ratio of the input signal and the reduction of power amplifier efficiency.This paper proposes a SWIPT transmitting architecture based on an asynchronous space-time-coding digital metasurface(ASTCM).High-efficiency simultaneous transfer of information and power is achieved via energy distribution and information processing of the wireless monophonic signal reflected from the metasurface.We demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method through theoretical derivations and experimental verification,which is therefore believed to have great potential in wireless communications and the IoT devices. 展开更多
