[Method] Equal density of Bellamya sp. was placed in 3 aquatic vegetation habitats (emerged plant area, submerged plant area and non-plant area) in ecological engineering construc- tion area near the west of Wangyuhe in Taihu, the survival rate, SOD activity, MDA content and P450 enzyme activity of Bellamya sp. during outbreak and non-outbreak stage of cyanobacteria were determined, and the correlation between these indexes and ammonia nitrogen content of lake water was also analyzed. [Result] During the outbreak stage of cyanobacteria, the survival rates of Bellamya sp. in emerged plant area, submerged plant area and non-plant area were 0%, 55.2% and 89.3%, re- spectively, SOD activity first decreased and then increased, the change trend of MDA content was opposite with SOD change trend, P450 enzyme activity continu- ously decreased. During non-outbreak stage of cyanobacteria, the survival rates of Bellamya sp. in 3 habitats were 90.6% ,98.8 and 99.5%, respectively, SOD activity first decreased and then increased, MDA content first increased and then decreased, the changes of P450 enzyme activity were not regular. SOD activity of Bellamya sp. during 2 phases had significantly negative correlation with ammonia nitrogen content of lake water, MDA content had significantly positive correlation with ammonia nitro- gen content of lake water only during non-outbreak stage of cyanobacteria, P450 enzyme activity has no significant correlation with ammonia nitrogen content. This in- dicated that when Bellamya sp. was used to evaluate the impact of aquatic vegeta- tion on benthic animals, P450 enzyme activity was not the suitable indicator. [Conclusion] SOD activity in muscle tissue of Bellamya sp. could be used as the indica- tor for evaluation of habitat, MDA could be used as indicator for detection of am- monia nitrogen content during non-outbreak stage of cyanobacteria, P450 enzyme could not be used as the indicator for early diagnosis and early warning of environ- mental pollution in 3 habitats in Taihu area.展开更多

After exposure to 0.5 mg L-1 CdCl2 for 3 or 7 d, the scallops were treated by COS-Ca prior to determina-tion of Cd, calcium (Ca) and zinc (Zn) contents, Cd distribution in organs, malondialdehyde (MDA) content and antioxidant variables. Results showed that COS-Ca reduced Cd content in the viscera of the scallops, with highest Cd depuration rate (47%) observed on day 3. The COS-Ca concentration substantially affected Cd depuration, and the exposure to 8.75 mg L-1 COS-Ca led to significantly higher Cd depuration rate compared with those of lower COS-Ca concentrations (1.75, 3.5, 5.25, and 7.00 mg L-1). Distribution analysis of Cd in scallop organs indicated that COS-Ca significantly reduced Cd content in the kidney throughout the 5-d experiment, as well as in the gill during the early stage of Cd depuration. In addition, COS-Ca treatment decreased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity and MDA content while increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities on different days. Our work suggested COS-Ca complex treatment as an effective method for acceleration of Cd depuration from Cd-contaminated bivalves.展开更多

The 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity was significantly induced, and increased with the increasing BaP concentration. The glutathione-S-transferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities increased in short time at low concentration of BaP, and was significantly depressed at high concentrations. Scallop gill was more sensitive to BaP than the digestive gland, and the digestive gland was the main tissue to deal with oxyradicals. The contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased with the exposure time and there was a positive correlation (concentration-effect) between the MDA content and the concentration of BaP. The biomarkers determined in this experiment had important roles in detoxification, and showed great potential as biomarkers for oxidative stress. Controlled laboratory experiments designed to simulate field exposure scenarios are particularly useful in ascertaining biomarkers suitable for use with complex contaminant mixtures in the marine environment.展开更多

The results showed that A. chinensis seeds were recalcitrant with being highly desiccation-sensitive. The seed moisture content of fresh fruits was higher than 60%. When the seeds were naturally dried for 30 days, their moisture content declined to 30.2% and their viability was completely lost. The seed germination percentage had a small increase at the beginning of desiccation and then decreased rapidly. The relative electrical conductivity of the A. chinensis seeds increased along with a decrease in seed moisture content. However, there was an abnormal increase in relative electrical conductivity when the seed moisture content was between 53.7% and 50.9%. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity decreased rapidly in the period of desiccation except for an abnormality when the seed moisture content was between 53.7% and 50.9%. Malondialdehyde (MDA) content increased slowly at the early stage of desiccation and then rose rapidly after the moisture content was below 50.9%. The soluble sugar content in seeds slowly increased with the increasing period of desiccation. The seed germination percentage was at the high level when seed moisture content was in range of 47%- 60%, which suggests that this was the optimum moisture content for maintaining A. chinensis seed viability.展开更多

The individuals of E chinensis were exposed to 200 and 1000 cells mL-1 of A. tamarense with their superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione S-transferase (GST) activities, malonyldialdehyde (MDA) concentration, and caspase gene (FcCasp) expression in hepatopancreas determined at 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. In addition, apoptosis in hepatopancreas of E chinensis at 96 h after exposure was determined through terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay. The hepatopancreatic SOD and GST activities of F. chinensis exposed to 1000 cells mL-1 ofA. tamarense showed a bell-shaped response to exposure time. The hepatopancreatic MDA concentration ofF. chinensis exposed to 1000 cellsmL-1 ofA. tamarense increased gradually from 48 to 96h, and such a trend corresponded to the decrease of GST activity. The hepatopancreatic FcCasp transcript abundance of F. chinensis exposed to 1000 cells mL-1 ofA. tamarense was positively and linearly correlated to MDA concentration. Results of TUNEL assay showed that exposure to 1000 cells mL-1 of A. tamarense induced apoptosis in the hepatopancreas of E chinensis. Our study revealed that A. tamarense exposure influenced the antioxidative status ofF. chinensis and caused lipid peroxidation and apoptosis in the hepatopancreas of shrimp.展开更多

[Method] The activities of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), as well as a non-enzymatic antioxidant malondialdehyde (MDA), in the liver were measured 3, 7, 14 and 21 d post exposure (dpe) to 0.02 (1/100 of acute toxicity), 0.036 (monitored concentration), 0.08 (1/20 of acute toxicity), 0.16 (1/10 of acute toxicity) and 0.32 mg/L (1/5 of acute toxicity) boscalid using a semi-static method. [Result] SOD, CAT, POD, GPx and MDA activity in the liver of zebrafish varied with boscalid concentration and exposure time. Boscalid significantly enhanced MDA content at 21 dpe. A significant upregulation of the activity of SOD, CAT, POD and GPx at 7 dpe was observed, suggesting that boscalid resulted in oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. [Conclusion] These results show that these biomarkers are all appropriate for monitoring oxidative stress and the lipid peroxidation status of fish after exposure to boscalid.
