Data on tree density, height, diameter, bole height, crown diameter were recorded and ana- lyzed when the stand was 19 years old. Mean height ranged from 12.89-13.52 m and diameter at breast height (dbh) from 26.57-32.16 cm in plots of different spacings. The mean annual height increment ranged from 0,67-0.71 m, mean annual diameter increment from 1.40-1.69 cm and wood volume from 6.02-10.04 m3.ha'l.al in different treatments. Significantly greater diameter (32.16 cm) and wood volume (10.04 m3.hal.a-1) were obtained with wider (2.13 m × 2.13 m) spacing than with closer spacings. But tree growth was unaffected by other spacings. Growth data were also recorded from other .4. officinalis plantations raised by Forest Department (FD) on different islands in Patuakhali and Bhola districts of Bangladesh. At these sites, mean annual height incre- ment ranged from 0.33-0.62 m, mean annual diameter increment from 0.72-1,37 cm and wood volume from 1.55-5.73 m3·ha-1·a·-1. The growth performance of A. offindicated that the newly aecreted lands along the western shoreline may be suitable for raising Avicennia planta- tions for the enrichment of coastal vegetation.展开更多

The results showed that salt stress significantly inhibited seedling growth and there was a negative relationship between seedling growth and salt concentration. The seedlings growth showed no significant decrease under low salt stress (NaCl≤50 mmol/L), while high concentrations of NaCl led to detrimental effects on the growth of A. officinalis L.. With the increase of NaCl concentration, the Na + content increased gradually in A. officinalis L. roots, stems and leaves while the K^+ and Ca^2+ contents had slow decreases. Under low salt stress, the seedlings of A. officinalis L. could prevent Na + from transporting to aerial part by withholding Na + in root, which could keep the balance of ions in aerial part, but under high salt stress (NaCl 〉 100 mmol/L), the aerial part of seedlings accumulated superabundance of Na +, which limited the uptake of K^+ and Ca^2+ , so seedlings were damaged heavily, which manifested as the gradual decrease of K^+/Na + and Ca^2+ /Na + in the roots and aerial part of the seedlings. The selective absorption of K^+, Ca^2+ and Na + (AS K,Na and AS Ca,Na ) was significantly increased with increased salinity, while the selective transportation (TS K,Na and TS Ca,Na ) increased at first and then decreased with the increased salinity. Therefore, the strong ability of salt exclusion and the regionalized distribution of ions in roots, stems and leaves could be one of the salt tolerance mechanisms of A. officinalis L.展开更多

Victoria, Echinochloa crusgalli ( L. ) Beauv., Lxer/s chinensis ( Thunb. ) Nakai and Plantago asiatica L. were investigated by biological assay. Dried powder of Melilotus officinalis Desr. was applied to the field in spring and winter to verify the inhibitory effects of Me- lilotus officinalis Desr. on weed biomass in the experimental field and compare the effects between Melilotus offwinalis Desr. and a variety of commonly used chemi- cal herbicides on weed suppression. The results showed that water extract of Melilotm officinalis Desr. posed significant effects on seed germination and seedling growth of Trifolium pretense L. , Echinochloa crusgalli ( L. ) Beauv. , Lxeris chinensis ( Thunb. ) Nakm, Plantago asiatica L. , Melilotus o^tcinalis Desr. and Medi- cago sativa L. cv. Victoria, exhibiting strong allelopathic effects, but the inhibition rate varied greatly among different plant species. Therefore, the allelopathic effects of Melilotus o^winalis Desr. should be utilized appropriately in practical applieatians. Dried powder of Melilotus officinalis Desr. significantly reduced weed quantity in the field for a short duration, which should be administered multiple times in a sufficient amount for weed control in the production.展开更多
