In exploring new sources for economically important products, marine environment draws particular attention because of its remarkable diversity and extreme conditions;it is known to produce metabolic products of great value. It represents untapped source for the discovery of novel secondary metabolites with varying potential such as antibiotic, anti-tumor, antifouling and cytotoxic properties. Marine actinomycetes distributed throughout the marine environment from shallow to deep sea sediments have proved to be a finest source for this discovery. Secondary metabolites derived from marine actinomycetes have proved their worth in industries based on the research on their properties and wide range applications. Spotlight of the review is range of marine based actinomycetes products and significant research in this field. This shows the capability of marine actinomycetes as bioactive metabolite producers. Additionally, the present review addresses some effective and novel approaches of procuring marine microbial compounds utilizing the latest screening strategies of drug discovery from which traditional resources such as marine actinobacteria has decreased due to declining yields. The aim is in the context of promoting fruitful and profitable results in the near future. The recent surfacing of new technologies for bioprospection of marine actinomycetes are very promising, resulting in high quality value added products, and will be de?ning a new era for bioactive compounds with medical and biotechnological applications. 展开更多

BACKGROUND: Marine actinomycetes are efficient producers of new secondary metabolites that show different biological activities, including antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, insecticidal, and enzyme inhibition activities. METHODS: The morphological, physiological, and biochemical properties of the strain Streptomyees sp. VITPSA were confirmed by conventional methods. Antibacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and cytotoxic activities of Streptomyces sp. VITPSA extract were determined. The media were optimized for the production of secondary metabolites. Characterization and identification of secondary metabolites were conducted by high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis. RESULTS: The strain showed significant antibacterial, anti-oxidant, and cytotoxic activities, moderate anti-inflammatory activity, and no satisfactory anti-diabetic activity. The ethyl acetate extract of Streptomyces sp. VITPSA showed maximum antibacterial activity against two gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria at 0.5 mg/mL. The antioxidant potential of the crude extract exhibited strong reducing power activity at 0.5 mg/mL with 95.1% inhibition. The cytotoxic effect was found to be an ICso of 50 gg/mL on MCF-7 cell lines. Experimental design of optimization by one-factor analysis revealed the most favorable sucrose, yeast extract, pH (7.25), and temperature (28~C) conditions for the effective production of secondary metabolites. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that Streptomyces sp. VITPSA is an excellent source of secondary metabolites with various bioactivities. 展开更多

Objective:To isolate and characterize the bioactive secondary metabolites from Aspergillus ochraceus(A.ochraceus)MP2 fungi. Methods:The anti bacterial activity of marine sponge derived fungi A.ochraceus MP2 was thoroughly investigated against antagonistic human pathogens. The optimum inhibitory concentration of the fungi in the elite solvent was also determined. The promising extracts that showed good antimicrobial activity were subjected to further analytical separation to get individual distinct metabolites and the eluants were further identified by GC MS instrumental analysis. The molecular characterization of the elite fungal strains were done by isolating their genomic DNA and amplify the internal transcribed spacer(US)region of 5.8s rRNA using specific ITS primer. The novelty of the strain was proved by homology search tools and elite sequences was submitted to GENBANK.Results:Three bioactive compounds were characterized to reveal their identity, chemical formula and structure. The first elutant was identified asα-Campholene aldehyde with chemical fonnula C_(10)H_(16)O and molecular weight 152 Da.The second elutant was identified as Lucenin-2 and chemical fonnula C_(27)H_(30)O_(16)and molecular weight 610Da.The third elutant was identified as 6-Ethyloct-3-yl-2-ethylhexyl ester with Chemical fonnula C_(26)H_(42)O_4 with molecular weight 418 Da.Conclusions:The isolated compounds showed significant antimicrobial activity against potential human pathogens.Microbial secondary metabolites represent a large source of compounds endowed with ingenious structures and potent biological activities. 展开更多
