A purely green approach to low-cost mass production of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks

Although zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs)have bright prospects in wide fields like gas storage/separation,catalysis and medicine,etc.,their large-scale applications are bottlenecked by the absence of their low-cost commercial production technique.Here,we report an uncon ventional method suitable for environmentally friendly and low-cost mass-production of ZIFs.In this method,taking the synthesis of ZIF-8 as an example,ZnO was used instead of Zn(NO_(3))_(2) in traditional solvent synthesis methods and CO_(2) was introduced to dissolve ZnO in aqueous solution of 2-methylimidazole(HMeim)and form water soluble salt([ZnMeim]^(+)[MeimCOO]^(-))at room temperature.Then,by removing CO_(2) through heating or vacuuming,Meim-ions are produced and instantaneously assemble with[ZnMeim]^(+)s to generate ZIF-8 without any by product.Due to the absence of strong acid anions(such as NO^(-)_(3) and Cl^(-) et al.)in solution,the washing of filter cake required in the conventional approaches could be omitted and the filtrate containing only water and HMeim could be reused completely.This method is really green as no waste gas or liquid generates because CO_(2) and water could be recycled perfectly.It overcomes almost all bottlenecks occurred in commercial production of ZIF-8 when using traditional methods.A pilot plant was established for mass-production of ZIF-8 and hundreds kilograms of ZIF-8 was produced,which indicates that the new method is not only environmentally friendly but also low cost and commercial accessibility.It is expected that the new method would open an avenue for commercial applications of ZIFs. 展开更多

To effectively solve the agglomeration problems in the solid state reaction process,pre-adding glucose is adopted to the synthesis of Li Fe PO4/C energy materials using Fe–P waste slag. The average particle grain size of Li FeP O4/C decreases,and the impurities in Li Fe PO4/C composites reduce to a great extent. It makes great sense to the mass industrial production. The optimum synthesis conditions determined in this work are based on the orthogonal experiments. The samples synthesized in a scale of 500 g exhibit high purity,excellent electrochemical performance,high reaction activity,good reversibility,and low polarization level.The discharge capacities are 145,134,117,and 102 m Ah/g at the current densities of 0.1 C,0.2 C,0.5 C and1 C,respectively. This work puts forward a practical suggestion for mass producing environmental benign and low cost Li FeP O4/C as cathode materials of lithium ion batteries. 展开更多

Haynaldia villosa possesses a lot of important agronomic traits and has been a powerful gene resource for wheat improvement. However, only several wheat-H, villosa translocation lines have been reported so far. In this study, we attempted to develop an efficient method for inducing wheat-H, villosa chromosomal translocations. Triticum durum- Haynaldia villosa amphiploid pollen treated with 1 200 rad ^60Co-y-rays was pollinated to Triticum aestivum cv. 'Chinese Spring'. Ninety-eight intergeneric translocated chromosomes between T. durum and H. villosa were detected by genomic in situ hybridization in 44 of 61 M1 plants, indicating a translocation occurrence frequency of 72.1%; much higher than ever reported. There were 26, 62 and 10 translocated chromosomes involving whole arm translocations, terminal translocations, and intercarlary translocations, respectively. Of the total 108 breakage-fusion events, 79 involved interstitial regions and 29 involved centric regions. The ratio of small segment terminal translocations (W.W-V) was much higher than that of large segment terminal translocations (W-V.V). All of the M1 plants were self-sterile, and their backcross progeny was all obtained with 'Chinese Spring' as pollen donors. Transmission analysis showed that most of the translocations were transmittable. This study provides a new strategy for rapid mass production of wheat-alien chromosomal translocations, especially terminal translocations that will be more significant for wheat improvement. 展开更多

Manufacturing and services constitute two of the five sectors of every country's economy;depending on the maturity of the economy,they are-in terms of employment-typically the two largest sectors.The outputs or products of an economy can also be divided into goods products(due to manufacturing,construction,agriculture and mining) and services products.To date,the goods and services products have,for the most part,been mass produced;it is the premise of this paper that recent technological advances-including flexible manufacturing,cloud computing,nanotechnology and smart sensing-can better enable the transformation from mass production to mass customization.We regard mass customization as the simultaneous and real time management of supply and demand chains,based on a taxonomy that can be defined in terms of its underpinning component and management foci.From a components perspective,we first consider the value chain of supplier,manufacturer,assembler,retailer,and customer,and then develop a consistent set of definitions for supply and demand chains based on the location of the customer order penetration point.From a management perspective,we classify the methods that are employed in the management of these chains,based on whether supply and/or demand are flexible or fixed.Interestingly,our management taxonomy highlights a very critical research area at which both supply and demand are flexible,thus manageable.Simultaneous management of supply and demand chains sets the stage for mass customization which is concerned with meeting the needs of an individualized customer market.Simultaneous and real time management of supply and demand chains set the stage for real time mass customization(e.g.,wherein a tailor first laser scans an individual's upper torso and then delivers a uniquely fitted jacket within a reasonable period,while the individual is waiting).The benefits of real time mass customization cannot be over-stated as goods and services become indistinguishable and are co-produced-as "servgoods"-in real time,resulting in an overwhelming economic advantage. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)materials are promising candidates in wide applications including energy storage and conversion,sensors,flexible devices,etc.The low-cost production of 2D materials with large quantities and demanded quality is the precondition for their commercial uses.For graphene and its derivatives,relatively mature techniques have been established for their scalable preparation and industrial applications.Whereas the mass production of 2D materials beyond graphene is still in its early age and it lacks a summary on this topic.This review systematically describes the state-of-the-art approaches for high-yield preparation of 2D materials beyond graphene,including“top-down”exfoliation and“bottom-up”synthetic approaches.In particular,each method is discussed from the perspectives of its principle,optimization attempts,characteristics of the obtained 2D materials,and its scalability potential.The applications that require massively-produced 2D materials are highlighted,including electrocatalysis,batteries,supercapacitors,mechanical and chemical sensors,as well as electromagnetic interference shielding and microwave absorption devices.Finally,we propose the challenges and opportunities for scalable preparation and commercial applications of 2D materials. 展开更多

The discovery of novel electrode materials promises to unleash a number of technological advances in lithium-ion batteries.V2O5 is recognized as a high-performance cathode that capitalizes on the rich redox chemistry of vanadium to store lithium.To unlock the full potential of V2O5,nanotechnology solution and rational electrode design are used to imbue V2O5 with high energy and power density by addressing some of their intrinsic disadvantages in macroscopic crystal form.Here,we demonstrate a facile and environmental-friendly method to prepare nanorods-constructed 3D porous V2O5 architectures(3 D-V2O5)in large-scale.The 3D porous architecture is found to be responsible for the enhanced charge transfer kinetics and Li-ion diffusion rate of the 3D-V2O5 electrode.As the result,the 3D-V2O5 surpasses the conventional bulk V2O5 by showing enhanced discharge capacity and rate capability(delivering 154 and 127 m Ah g^-1 at 15 and 20 C,respectively). 展开更多

A new method was developed based on the electron beam vacuum dispersion(EBVD) technology to prepare the PTFE polymer coating of the new polymer quartz piezoelectric crystal sensor for testing liquor products. The new method was applied in the new EBVD equipment which we designed. A real-time system monitoring the polymer coating's thickness was designed for the new EBVD equipment according to the quartz crystal microbalance(QCM) principle, playing an important role in preparing stable and uniform PTFE polymer coatings of the same thickness. 30 pieces of PTFE polymer coatings on the surface of the quartz crystal basis were prepared with the PTFE polymer ultrafine powder(purity ≥ 99.99%)as the starting material. We obtained 30 pieces of new PTFE polymer sensors. By using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), the structure of the PTFE polymer coating's column clusters was studied. One sample from the 30 pieces of new PTFE polymer sensors was analysed by SEM in four scales, i.e., 400×, 1000×, 10000×, and 25000×. It was shown that under the condition of high bias voltage and low bias current, uniformly PTFE polymer coating could be achieved, which indicates that the new EBVD equipment is suitable for mass production of stable and uniform polymer coating. 展开更多

This paper discusses needs for the automation of the underdevelopment communities.The novelty of this research is the link between production of microprocessors and increasing of the life quality.This study highlights the importance of efficient and economic architecture of logical circuits for the automation.The aim of this research is to produce a logical circuit,which includes suitable gates.The circuit will be embedded in the automatic devices as a microprocessor to cause programmed functions.This research reports analytically a workshop method to build the circuit.It uses an assembly card and required gates.Then,it suggests certain VHDL codes to drive a motor.The workshop presents the configuration schemes and connection board for every gate.In addition,it shows a schematic wiring diagram of the circuit.Finally,the economic analysis proves the mass production of the circuit will enhance the automation and consequently the quality of life.The outcome of this research is a helpful experience to the engineers,manufacturers and students of the relevant disciplines to resolve the inequality in the use of the modern technologies. 展开更多

Although mass customization, which utilizes modularization to simultaneously increase product variety and maintain mass production (MP) efficiency, has become a trend in recent times, there are some limitations to mass customization. Firstly, customers do not participate wholeheartedly in the design phase. Secondly, potential combinations are predetermined by designers. Thirdly, the concept of mass customization is not necessary to satisfy individual requirements and is not capable of providing personalized services and goods. Industry 4.0 is a collec- tive term for technologies and concepts of value chain organization. Based on the technological concepts of radio frequency identification, cyber-physical system, the Inter- net of things, Internet of service, and data mining, Industry 4.0 will enable novel forms of personalization. Direct customer input to design will enable companies to increasingly produce customized products with shorter cycle-times and lower costs than those associated with standardization and MP. The producer and the customer will share in the new value created. To overcome the gaps between mass customization and mass personalization, this paper presents a framework for mass personalization production based on the concepts of Industry 4.0. Several industrial practices and a lab demonstration show how we can realize mass personalization. 展开更多

Abstract In the field of polymer/graphene nanocomposites, massive production and commercial availability of graphene are essential. Exfoliation of graphite to obtain graphene is one of the most promising ways to large-scale production at extremely low cost. In this work we illustrate a facile strategy for mass production of few-layered (≤ 10) graphene (FLG) via the newly explored ball milling. The achieved FLG concentration was determined by UV/Vis spectroscopy. The formation of FLG was proved by measuring the flake thickness by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Further Raman spectral studies indicated that the crystal structure of exfoliated flakes was preserved satisfactorily during this shear-force dominating process. To increase the maximum concentration obtainable, it's critical to make a good parameter assessment. N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) was used as a dispersing medium and the effect of milling parameters was systematically and quantitatively investigated, thus providing a criterion to optimize the milling process. We established the optimal values for solvent volume and initial weight of graphite. As for milling time, the production of FLG was enhanced with continuous milling according to the power law, but not linearly with increasing milling time. Moreover, the possible mechanism involved in milling process was also explored. Our work provides a simple method for graphite exfoliation and has great potential for improving thermal and electrical conductivity of polymer composites in the fields of engineering. 展开更多

In this paper,we developed and validated a simple,sensitive,and selective high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(HPLC-MS/MS) method to identify and measure the following prohibited substances that may be found in cosmetic products:minoxidil,hydrocortisone, spironolactone,estrone,canrenone,triamcinolone acetonide and progesterone.Chromatographic separation was performed on a Waters Symmetry C18(100 mm×2.1 mm,3.5μm particle size) with a gradient elution system composed of 0.2%(v/v) formic acid aqueous solution and methanol containing 0.2%(v/v) formic acid at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min.The substances were detected using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer in the multiple reaction monitoring mode with an electrospray ionization source.All of the calibration curves showed good linearity(r 〉 0.999) within the tested concentration ranges.The limit of detection was 〈25 pg.The relative standard deviations for intraday precision for each of the prohibited substances were 〈3.5%at two concentration levels(2μg/g,10μg/g). The relative recovery rate for each of the prohibited substances ranged from 91.8%to 111%at three concentration levels(0.1μg/g,2μg/g,10μg/g),including the limit of quantification.In conclusion,we have developed and validated a method that can identify seven prohibited substances in cosmetic products. 展开更多

4,6-α-Glucanotransferase(4,6-α-GT)converts starch into product with increasedα(1-6)glycosidic bonds ratio,and this product is a new type of soluble dietary fiber with property of escaping small intestine digestion.... 4,6-α-Glucanotransferase(4,6-α-GT)converts starch into product with increasedα(1-6)glycosidic bonds ratio,and this product is a new type of soluble dietary fiber with property of escaping small intestine digestion.4,6-α-GT gained interest recently because of their potential use in enzymatic synthesis of soluble dietary fiber.In this study,a putative GtfB sequence from Limosilactobacillus fermentum NCC 3057 was identified.This sequence was truncated and expressed in Escherichia coli to obtain the protein L.fermentum NCC 3057 GtfBΔN.GtfBΔN showed optimal activity at 35℃and pH 6.0,and it converted amylose V to isomalto-/maltopolysaccharide(IMMP)with low molecular mass(3.1 kDa).This IMMP product contains 72%α(1-6)glycosidic bonds,and it showed 64%indigestible content in vitro digestion experiment.These results indicate that the product of L.fermentum NCC 3057 GtfBΔN is a soluble dietary fiber.Finally the X-ray crystal structure of GtfBΔN(2.4Å)was resolved.Based on the GtfBΔN structure,we offer an insight about that three loops of domain C may be related to the molecular mass of IMMP product. 展开更多

The outputs or products of an economy can be divided into services products ana gooas products (due to manufacturing, construction, agriculture and mining). To date, the services and goods products have, for the most part, been separately mass produced. However, in contrast to the first and second industrial revolutions which respectively focused on the development and the mass production of goods, the next - or third - industrial revolution is focused on the integration of services and/or goods; it is beginning in this second decade of the 21st Century. The Third Industrial Revolution (TIR) is based on the confluence of three major technological enablers (i.e., big data analytics, adaptive services and digital manufacturing); they underpin the integration or mass customization of services and/or goods. As detailed in an earlier paper, we regard mass customization as the simultaneous and real-time management of supply and demand chains, based on a taxonomy that can be defined in terms of its underpinning component and management foci. The benefits of real-time mass customization cannot be over-stated as goods and services become indistinguishable and are co-produced - as "servgoods" - in real-time, resulting in an overwhelming economic advantage to the industrialized countries where the consuming customers are at the same time the co-producing producers. 展开更多

In an earlier paper (Tien 2012), the author augurs that, in contrast to the first and second industrial revolutions which respectively focused on the development and the mass production of goods, the next - or third - industrial revolution is focused on the integration of services and/or goods; it began in this second decade of the 21st Century. The Third Industrial Revolution (TIR) is underpinned by the integration or mass customization of services and/or goods. The benefits of real-time mass customization cannot be over-stated as goods and services become indistinguishable and are co-produced as "ServGoods", resulting in an overwhelming economic advantage to the industrialized countries where the consuming customers are at the same time the co-producing producers. Adding sensors to these ServGoods and letting them connect or communicate among themselves or with other ServGoods can result in an Intemet of Things (i.e., connected ServGoods). Two-dimensional(2D)carbon nanomaterials with hierarchical porous structure and heteroatoms doping are highly desirable in the fields of energy storage because of their rich active surface and open ion diffusion channels.However,the scalable preparation of carbon materials simultaneously possessing ultrathin 2D feature and hierarchical pores remains a considerable challenge.Herein,a facile one-step method to massively fabricate 2D porous chitin nanosheets(coded as PCNs)via a phytic acid assisted top-down exfoliation of bulk chitin under hydrothermal treatment was presented.Subsequently,2D carbon nanosheets with extra-thin thickness(3.6 nm),well-defined hierarchical porosity,high specific surface area(855 m2·g^-1),as well as abundant self-doped heteroatoms(N,O,P)were fabricated by carbonizing the PCNs,and was named as HPCNs.The as-obtained HPCNs demonstrated remarkable electrochemical performance as electrode material for supercapacitors.The symmetric supercapacitors(SSCs)based on HPCNs exhibited a high specific capacitance of 79 F·g^-1(316 F·g^-1 for single electrode)in 6 M KOH aqueous electrolyte solution,as well as a remarkable energy density of 23.8 W·h·kg^-1 by using 1 M Li2SO4 as electrolyte.It is also demonstrated that HPCNs/PCNs hybrid dispersions can be used as inks to fabricate conductive films and energy devices with high strength and superior flexibility.This work paves a new avenue for the economical and large-scale synthesis of 2D hierarchically porous carbon materials for energy storage related applications. 展开更多
