Optical networks are evolving toward ultrawide bandwidth and autonomous operation.In this scenario,it is crucial to accurately model and control optical power evolutions(OPEs)through optical amplifiers(OAs),as they directly affect the signal-to-noise ratio and fiber nonlinearities.However,a fundamental contradiction arises between the complex physical phenomena in optical transmission and the required precision in network control.Traditional theoretical methods underperform due to ideal assumptions,while data-driven approaches entail exorbitant costs associated with acquiring massive amounts of data to achieve the desired level of accuracy.In this work,we propose a Bayesian inference framework(BIF)to construct the digital twin of OAs and control OPE in a data-efficient manner.Only the informative data are collected to balance the exploration and exploitation of the data space,thus enabling efficient autonomous-driving optical networks(ADONs).Simulations and experiments demonstrate that the BIF can reduce the data size for modeling erbium-doped fiber amplifiers by 80%and Raman amplifiers by 60%.Within 30 iterations,the optimal controlling performance can be achieved to realize target signal/gain profiles in links with different types of OAs.The results show that the BIF paves the way to accurately model and control OPE for future ADONs. 展开更多

With the continuous development of automotive intelligent networking and autonomous driving technologies,the number of in-vehicle electronic systems and applications is increasing rapidly.This change increases the amount of data to be transmitted in the vehicle and puts forward further requirements of higher speed and safety for in-vehicle communication.Traditional vehicle bus technologies are no longer sufficient to meet today’s high-speed transmission requirements,in which copper cables are used extensively,resulting in serious electromagnetic interference(EMI).Vehicle optical fiber communication technology,besides greatly improving the data transmission rate,has the advantages of anti-EMI,reducing cable space and vehicle mass.This paper first presents the motivation of applying vehicle optical fiber communication technology and reviews the development history of vehicle optical fiber communication technology.Then,the paper researches the devel-opment trend of automotive electrical and electronic architecture(EEA),from distributed EEA to domain centralized EEA and zone-oriented EEA.Based on the discussion of the development trend of automotive EEA,an EEA based on vehicle optical fiber communication technology is proposed.Finally,the key points and future directions of vehicle optical fiber communication technology research are highlighted,including vehicle multi-mode optical fiber technology,vehicle optical fiber network protocol,and topology. 展开更多

As the emergence of various highbandwidth services and the requirements to support 5G/Wi-Fi 6 wireless networks,the next generation fixed networks,i.e.F5G,are expected to be realized in the 5G era.F5G is endowed with new characteristics,including ultra-high bandwidth,all-optical connections and optimal service experience.With the prospect of optical-to-everywhere,optical technologies are used for mobile front-haul,mid-haul,and back-haul.Optical access networks would play an important role in F5G to support radio access network and fixed access network.Low-latency PON is a key for cost effective-haul traffic aggregation.In terms of signal transmission,intensity modulation directdetection(IM-DD)is a promising scheme due to its simple architecture.The fundamental challenge associated with direct-detection is the disappearance of the transmitted signal’s phase.In access network,the flexibility and low latency are the two key factors affecting service experience.In this article,we review the evolution of PONs and the challenges of current PONs in detail.We analyze key enabling digital signal processing(DSP)techniques,including detection linearization for direct-detection and simplified coherent detection,adaptive equalizers,digital filer enabled flexible access network and low-latency inter-ONU communications.Finally,we discuss the developing trends of future optical access networks. 展开更多

A 40-Gb/s optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) return-to-zero (RZ) transmission experiments including a dynamic polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensation was reported. The dynamic PMD compensator is made up of two-stage four degrees of freedom (DOF). The first stage adopts polarization controller and fixed time-delayed line. The second stage is variable differential group delay (DGD) element. The PMD monitoring technique is based on degree of polarization (DOP) as error signal. A novel practical adaptive optimization algorithm was introduced in dynamic adaptive PMD compensation. The experimental results show that the performance of the PMD compensator is excellent for 40-Gb/s RZ transmission systems with the large DGD. With this compensator, a significant improvement of system performance can be achieved in the eye pattern of a received signal. The first-order compensating ability of the compensator is greater than 30 ps. The second-order compensating ability is greater than 200 ps2. The first-order optimum compensating time is within 10 ms. The second-order optimum compensating time is within 24 ms. 展开更多

Experimental long-distance quantum secure direct communication 被引量:27

Quantum secure direct communication(QSDC) is an important quantum communication branch, which realizes the secure information transmission directly without encryption and decryption processes.Recently, two table-top experiments have demonstrated the principle of QSDC. Here, we report the first long-distance QSDC experiment, including the security test, information encoding, fiber transmission and decoding. After the fiber transmission of 0.5 km, quantum state fidelities of the two polarization entangled Bell states are 91% and 88%, respectively, which are used for information coding. We theoretically analyze the performance of the QSDC system based on current optical communication technologies,showing that QSDC over fiber links of several tens kilometers could be expected. It demonstrates the potential of long-distance QSDC and supports its future applications on quantum communication networks. 展开更多

A hybrid wavelength division multiple access (WDMA)/optical code division multiplexing (OCDM) system is proposed, where the optical code is not the same as the address of every optical network unit (ONU); rather, the code is a virtual fiber of hybrid passive optical network (PON). To our knowledge, this is the first report analyzing a single encoder/decoder with a single corresponding optical code being exploited to encode/decode multiple wavelength signals simultaneously. This system enables OCDM to become transparent to ONU so that the existing wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) PON can be upgraded. Thus, redesigning the optical line terminal and ONU can be easily accomplished, and greatly decreasing the number of encoder/decoder becomes possible. In experiment, we only employ two encoder/decoder pairs to combine two WDM-PONs in one fiber. Simulation results confirm the feasibility of the proposed system. 展开更多

In this Letter, we experimentally demonstrate a full-duplex transmission system of IEEE 802.11ac-compliant multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) signals over a 2-kin 7-core fiber for in-building wireless local-area net- work (WLAN) distributed antenna systems. For full-duplex 3 x 3 MIMO demonstration, the crosstalk impacts of both fiber-transmission-only and optic-wireless transmission situation are evaluated. The results indicate that the impact of crosstalk on radio-over-fiber (ROF) link performance is not significant and the quality of the cascaded multi-core fiber and wireless channel is mainly determined by the wireless part. To further improve the system capacity, polarization multiplexing (PolMux) technology is employed to achieve a full-duplex 6 × 6 MIMO over a single 7-core fiber. Although employing the PolMux method will slightly decrease the EVM and condition number performance as opposed to a non-PolMux MCF system, it is still a competitive solution in large optical connection demand scenarios that require a low cost. 展开更多

A novel scheme to generate, transmit, and receive an optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) continuous phase modulation (CPM) signal, which is combining minimum shift keying (MSK) coding with OFDM optical modulation, for downlink application in a 4×2.5-Gb/s wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) passive optical access network, is proposed and experimentally validated. We also realize wavelength remodulation for carrying upstream on-off keying (OOK) data to reduce the cost budget at the optical network unit. The experimental results show that the power penalties for the downlink and the uplink data after transmission over 25-km SMF-28 fiber are 0.1 dB and smaller than 0.4 dB, respectively. 展开更多

An optimized two-stage-cascade double-pass structure L-band preamplifier was proposed and experimentally studied to overcome the shortcomings of low gain coefficient and high noise figure of L-band erbiumdoped fiber amplifier (EDFA). The fiber lengthes of 6.5 and 32.5 m, pump powers of 130 and 119 mW for the first and second stages respectively are used in the experiment. When input signal power is-30 dBm, the amplifier can provide gain above 38.84 dB in a wavelength range of 34 nm (1568-1602 nm), gain ripple less than 2.04 dB (40.88-38.84 dB), and noise figures lower than 5.29 dB with the lowest value of 3.95 dB at 1590 nm. Experimental and simulation results show that this low cost and high pump efficiency amplifier is suitable for the application as an L-band preamplifier in the broadband fiber communication system. 展开更多

We design a compact triplexer based on two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal lattice photonic crystals (PCs). A folded directional coupler (FDC) is introduced in the triplexer beside the point-defect micro-cavities and line-defect waveguides. Because of the reflection feedback of the FDC, high channel drop efficiency can be realized and a compact size with the order of micrometers can be maintained. The proposed device is analyzed using the plane wave expansion method, and its transmission characteristics are calculated using the finite-difference time-domain method. The footprint of the triplexer is about 12 9 μm, and its extinction ratios are less than -20 dB for 1310 nm, approximately -20 dB for 1490 nm, and under -40 dB for 1550 nm, making it a potentially essential device in future fiber-to-the-home networks. 展开更多
