It shows the importance of fractorizing out the effect of fractal structure from other physical causes and separating the appropriate range of scale from multirange fractals. Three recent breakthroughs due to AI in arts and science serve as motivation:An award winning digital image,protein folding,fast matrix multiplication.Many recent developments in artificial neural networks,particularly deep learning(DL),applied and relevant to computational mechanics(solid,fluids,finite-element technology)are reviewed in detail.Both hybrid and pure machine learning(ML)methods are discussed.Hybrid methods combine traditional PDE discretizations with ML methods either(1)to help model complex nonlinear constitutive relations,(2)to nonlinearly reduce the model order for efficient simulation(turbulence),or(3)to accelerate the simulation by predicting certain components in the traditional integration methods.Here,methods(1)and(2)relied on Long-Short-Term Memory(LSTM)architecture,with method(3)relying on convolutional neural networks.Pure ML methods to solve(nonlinear)PDEs are represented by Physics-Informed Neural network(PINN)methods,which could be combined with attention mechanism to address discontinuous solutions.Both LSTM and attention architectures,together with modern and generalized classic optimizers to include stochasticity for DL networks,are extensively reviewed.Kernel machines,including Gaussian processes,are provided to sufficient depth for more advanced works such as shallow networks with infinite width.Not only addressing experts,readers are assumed familiar with computational mechanics,but not with DL,whose concepts and applications are built up from the basics,aiming at bringing first-time learners quickly to the forefront of research.History and limitations of AI are recounted and discussed,with particular attention at pointing out misstatements or misconceptions of the classics,even in well-known references.Positioning and pointing control of a large-deformable beam is given as an example. 展开更多

The magnesia -hercynite bricks offer a new lining to rotary cement kiln. They are well adopted and widely used in the high temperature zone of cement kiln, and have obtained good performance at rigorous and severe working conditions. The synthesis of hercynite requires a suitable atmosphere with proper O2 partial pressures which makes sure FeO can stably exist at the synthesizing temperature. Current industrial production of hercynite mainly adopts fused method. The other method, sinte- ring method, is not mature and needs further research. The magnesia - hercynite brick shows high hot toughhess, high adhesion strength to kiln crust, and good corrosion resistance to alkali salt in cement kilns. The mismatching of thermal expansion between magnesia and hercynite can improve the thermal shock resistance of the bricks, but the oxidation of partial Fe^2+ , the high temperature solution, and low temperature exsolution of transgranular secondary spinel lead to cubical expansion, .formation of more cracks, and poor thermal shock resistance of the bricks. 展开更多

Protease treatments on wool have its inherent defect in shrink-proofing because protease will decompose wool through cell membrane complex (CMC). In order to solve this problem, mechanism of enzyme treatments on wool was adequately analyzed and possible enzyme applications were discussed. The mechanism of enzyme treatment on wool was analyzed through weight loss, strength, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrophoresis, sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis ( SDS- PAGE), and amino acids composition. Based on the results, a possible novel multifunetional enzyme treatment on wool to achieve shrink-resistance was proposed. In order to shorten enzyme treatment time, the rate of proteolysis of wool was investigated. Considering the specificity of proteases, wool composition, and structure of dyes, a better enzyme pretreatment before dyeing to get better dyeabflity and lower dyeing temperature was discussed. 展开更多

One of the causes is that there has been a complete theory about the complex Junction and the analytic junction, hut in space problems, the case is quite different.We have no effective method to deal with these problems. In this paper, we first introduces general theories of Clifford algebra. Then we emphatically explain Clifford algebra in three dimensions and establish theories of regular Junction in three dimensions analogically to analytic function in plane. Thus we extend some results of plane problem-la three dimensions or high dimensions. Obviously, it is very important for elastic and fluid mechanics. But because Clifford algebra is not a commutative algebra, we can't simply extend the results of two dimensions to high dimensions. The left problems are yet to be found out. 展开更多

TiO2 nanomaterial is promising with its high potential and outstanding performance in photocatalytic environmental applications, such as CO2 conversion, water treatment, and air quality control. For many of these applications, the particle size, crystal structure and phase, porosity, and surface area influence the activity of TiO2 dramatically. TiO2 nanomaterials with special structures and morphologies, such as nanospheres, nanowires, nanotubes, nanorods, and nanoflowers are thus synthesized due to their desired characteristics. With an emphasis on the different morphologies of TiO2 and the influence factors in the synthesis, this review summarizes fourteen TiO2 preparation methods, such as the sol-gel method, solvothermal method, and reverse micelle method. The TiO2 formation mechanisms, the advantages and disadvantages of the preparation methods, and the photocatalytic environmental application examples are proposed as well. 展开更多
