This is referred to as thermodynamic consistency of the mathematical models. Thermodynamic consistency ensures thermodynamic equilibrium during the evolution of the deformation. When the mathematical models are thermodynamically consistent, the second law of thermodynamics facilitates consistent derivations of constitutive theories in the presence of dissipation and memory mechanisms. This is the main motivation for the work presented in this paper. In the currently used mathematical models for plates/shells based on the assumed kinematic relations, energy functional is constructed over the volume consisting of kinetic energy, strain energy and the potential energy of the loads. The Euler’s equations derived from the first variation of the energy functional for arbitrary length when set to zero yield the mathematical model(s) for the deforming plates/shells. Alternatively, principle of virtual work can also be used to derive the same mathematical model(s). For linear elastic reversible deformation physics with small deformation and small strain, these two approaches, based on energy functional and the principle of virtual work, yield the same mathematical models. These mathematical models hold for reversible mechanical deformation. In this paper, we examine whether the currently used plate/shell mathematical models with the corresponding kinematic assumptions can be derived using the conservation and balance laws of classical or non-classical continuum mechanics. The mathematical models based on Kirchhoff hypothesis (classical plate theory, CPT) and first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) that are representative of most mathematical models for plates/shells are investigated in this paper for their thermodynamic consistency. This is followed by the details of a general and higher order thermodynamically consistent plate/shell thermoelastic mathematical model that is free of a priori consideration of kinematic assumptions and remains valid for very thin as well as thick plates/shells with comprehensive nonlinear constitutive theories based on integrity. Model problem studies are presented for small deformation behavior of linear elastic plates in the absence of thermal effects and the results are compared with CPT and FSDT mathematical models.展开更多

It is pointed out that such three statements correspond to three thermodynamic parameters, which are, respectively, the entropy, temperature, and heat capacity, and can be obtained by extrapolating the experimental results of different parameters at ultralow temperatures to absolute zero. It is expounded that because there is no need for additional assumptions in the derivation of the Nernst equation, the Nernst theorem should be renamed as the Nernst statement. Moreover, it is proved that both the Nernst statement and the heat capacity statement are mutually deducible and equivalent, while the unattainability of absolute zero temperature is only a corollary of the Nernst statement or the heat capacity statement so that it is unsuitably referred to as one statement of the third law of thermodynamics. The conclusion is that the Nernst statement and the heat capacity statement are two equivalent statements of the third law of thermodynamics.展开更多

Results on the elimination of Fe(II) in static and dynamic adsorption on prepared activated carbons (ACs) showed that the AC-i24h adsorbent has the best Fe(II) adsorption capacities at saturation (Qsat). The Qsat obtained on AC-i24h in static and dynamic conditions (17.87 and 10.38 mg/g, respectively) were higher than those of AC-i30min (13.89 and 5.54 mg/g respectively) and AC-i1h (14.92 and 8.64 mg/g respectively). Moreover, the static adsorption was more effective in the removal of Fe(II) ions in aqueous media in our experimental conditions. The percentage removal (%E) of Fe(II) obtained on prepared activated carbons in static conditions was better than those obtained in dynamic conditions, especially on AC-i24h, where the %E was 89.27% in static and 61.56% in dynamic. In kinetics, results showed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model best described the adsorption mechanisms of Fe(II) on prepared activated carbons in static adsorption, with mainly of chemisorption on the solid surfaces. However, in dynamic conditions, the pseudo-first-order kinetic model was more suitable. In addition to the weak interactions between Fe(II) and the activated carbon surfaces, strong interactions (chemisorption) were also observed. Also, thermodynamic data obtained on AC-i24h in static adsorption indicated that the adsorption of Fe(II) was spontaneous and increased with temperature (ΔG˚ H˚ = 503.54 KJ/mol).展开更多

The effects of Ni content and milling time on the gaseous hydrogen storage thermodynamics and dynamics of the alloys were systematically investigated. The hydrogen desorption properties were studied by Sievert's apparatus and a differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) connected with a H2 detector. The thermodynamic parameters(ΔH and ΔS) for the hydrogen absorption and desorption of the alloys were calculated by Van't Hoff equation. The hydrogen desorption activation energy of the alloy hydride was estimated using Arrhenius and Kissinger methods. The results indicate that a variation in the Ni content has a slight effect on the thermodynamic properties of the alloys, but it significantly improves their absorption and desorption kinetics performances. Furthermore, varying milling time clearly affects the hydrogen storage properties of the alloys. All the as-milled alloys show so fast hydrogen absorption rate that the absorbed amount in 10 min reaches to at least more than 95% of the saturated hydrogen absorption capacity. Moreover, the improvement of the gaseous hydrogen storage kinetics of the alloys is found to be ascribed to a decrease in the hydrogen desorption activation energy caused by increasing Ni content and prolong milling time.展开更多

Although it seems difficult to completely elucidate the mechanism through modern western medicine, it can be explained using quantum mechanics. The quantum, the smallest unit of matter composition, exhibits wave-particle duality. The fact that symptoms can be improved simply by bringing dentures or medicines closer to the body indicates that the waves emitted by dentures or medicines interfere with the pathological waves emitted by the pathological site. Thus, the pathological waves are deformed and lead to a change in symptoms. In this way, quantum theory can explain phenomena that are difficult to elucidate in conventional medicine, which are encountered in clinical practice. So far, the author has presented a case of difficulty in raising the upper limb where the symptoms improved without the need for dentures in the mouth by adjusting the dentures outside the mouth. This time, the author would like to introduce a case which the patient’s knee pain improved by adjusting the dentures outside the mouth.展开更多

Space time describes strength of fundamental force. In this paper, Einstein’s general relativity equation has been described in terms of contraction and expansion forces of space time. According to this, the space time with Planck diameter is a flat space time. This is the only diameter of space time that can be used as signal transformation in special relativity. This space time diameter defines the fundamental force which belongs to that space time. In quantum mechanics, this space time diameter is only the quantum of space which belongs to that particular fundamental force. Einstein’s general relativity equation and Planck parameters of quantum mechanics have been written in terms of equations containing a constant “K”, thus found a new equation for transformation of general relativity space time in to quantum space time. In this process of synchronization, there is a possibility of a new fundamental force between electromagnetic and gravitational forces with Planck length as its space time diameter. It is proposed that dark matter is that fundamental force carrying particle. By grand unification equation with space-time diameter, we found a coupling constant as per standard model “αs” for that fundamental force is 1.08 × 10-23. Its energy calculated as 113 MeV. A group of experimental scientists reported the energy of dark matter particle as 17 MeV. Thorough review may advance science further.展开更多

文摘The spatiotemporally-nonlocal phenomena in heat conduction become significant but challenging for metamaterials with artificial microstructures. However, the microstructure-dependent heat conduction phenomena are captured under the hypothesis of spatiotemporally local equilibrium. To capture the microstructure-dependent heat conduction phenomena,a generalized nonlocal irreversible thermodynamics is proposed by removing both the temporally-local and spatially-local equilibrium hypotheses from the classical irreversible thermodynamics. The generalized nonlocal irreversible thermodynamics has intrinsic length and time parameters and thus can provide a thermodynamics basis for the spatiotemporally-nonlocal law of heat conduction. To remove the temporallylocal equilibrium hypothesis, the generalized entropy is assumed to depend not only on the internal energy but also on its first-order and high-order time derivatives. To remove the spatially local equilibrium hypothesis, the thermodynamics flux field in the dissipation function is assumed to relate not only to the thermodynamics force at the reference point but also to the thermodynamics force of the neighboring points. With the developed theoretical framework, the thermodynamics-consistent spatiotemporally-nonlocal models can then be developed for heat transfer problems. Two examples are provided to illustrate the applications of steady-state and transient heat conduction problems.

文摘Introducing high-valence Ta element is an essential strategy for addressing the structu ral deterioration of the Ni-rich LiNi_(1-x-y)Co_(x)Mn_(y)O_(2)(NCM)cathode,but the enlarged Li/Ni cation mixing leads to the inferior rate capability originating from the hindered Li~+migration.Note that the non-magnetic Ti~(4+)ion can suppress Li/Ni disorder by removing the magnetic frustration in the transition metal layer. However,it is still challenging to directionally design expected Ta/Ti dual-modification,resulting from the complexity of the elemental distribution and the uncertainty of in-situ formed coating compounds by introducing foreign elements.Herein,a LiTaO_3 grain boundary(GB)coating and bulk Ti-doping have been successfully achieved in LiNi_(0.834)Co_(0.11)Mn_(0.056)O_(2) cathode by thermodynamic guidance,in which the structural formation energy and interfacial binding energy are employed to predict the elemental diffusion discrepancy and thermodynamically stable coating compounds. Thanks to the coupling effect of strengthened structural/interfacial stability and improved Li~+diffusion kinetics by simultaneous bulk/GB engineering, the Ta/Ti-NCM cathode exhibits outstanding capacity retention, reaching 91.1%after 400 cycles at 1 C.This elaborate work contributes valuable insights into rational dual-modification engineering from a thermodynamic perspective for maximizing the electrochemical performances of NCM cathodes.

文摘We calculate the thermodynamic quantities in the quantum corrected Reissner-Nordstr?m-AdS(RN-AdS)black hole, and examine their quantum corrections.By analyzing the mass and heat capacity,we give the critical state and the remnant state, respectively, and discuss their consistency. Then,we investigate the quantum tunneling from the event horizon of massless scalar particle by using the null geodesic method, and charged massive boson W^(±)and fermions by using the Hamilton-Jacob method. It is shown that the same Hawking temperature can be obtained from these tunneling processes of different particles and methods.Next,by using the generalized uncertainty principle(GUP),we study the quantum corrections to the tunneling and the temperature. Then the logarithmic correction to the black hole entropy is obtained.

文摘It is found from textbooks and literature that there are three different statements for the third law of thermodynamics,i.e., the Nernst theorem, the unattainability statement of absolute zero temperature, and the heat capacity statement. The conclusion is that the Nernst statement and the heat capacity statement are two equivalent statements of the third law of thermodynamics.

文摘A study was conducted to analyze the deformation mechanism of strongly weathered quartz schist in the Daliangshan Tunnel, located in the western Transverse Mountain area.A large deformation problem was experienced during the tunnel construction. To mitigate this problem,a support system was designed incorporating negative Poisson ratio(NPR)anchor cables with negative Poisson ratio effect.Physical model experiments, field experiments, and numerical simulation experiments were conducted to investigate the compensation mechanical behavior of NPR anchor cables. The large deformations of soft rocks in the Daliangshan Tunnel are caused by a high ground stress,a high degree of joint fracture development, and a high degree of surrounding rock fragmentation.A compensation mechanics support system combining long and short NPR anchor cables was suggested to provide sufficient counter-support force(approximately 350 kN)for the surrounding rock inside the tunnel.Comparing the NPR anchor cable support system with the original support system used in the Daliangshan tunnel showed that an NPR anchor cable support system, combining cables of 6.3 m and 10.3 m in length, effectively prevented convergence of surrounding rock deformation, and the integrated settlement convergence value remained below 300 mm.This study provides an effective scientific basis for resolving large deformation problems in deeply buried soft rocks in western transverse mountain areas.

文摘Hydraulic fracturing is a mature and effectivemethod for deep oil and gas production, which provides a foundation for deep oil and gas production. One of the key aspects of implementing hydraulic fracturing technology lies in understanding mechanics response characteristics of rocks in deep reservoirs under complex stress conditions. In this work, based on outcrop core samples,high-stress triaxial compression tests were designed to simulate the rock mechanics behavior of deep reservoirs in Bozhong Sag.Additionally, this study analyzes the deformation and damage law for rock under different stress conditions.Wherein, with a particular focus on combining energy dissipation theory to further understand damage law for deep reservoirs. The experimental results show that regardless of stress conditions, the process of deformation/failure of deep-seated reservoirs goes through five stages:Fracture compaction, newfracture formation, stable fracture expansion, unstable fracture expansion, and post-peak residual deformation.Under different stress conditions, the energy change laws of specimens are similar. The energy dissipation process of rocks corresponds closely to the trend of deformation-failure curve, then displays distinctive stage characteristics.Wherein,in stage of rock fracture compaction, the input energy curve is approximately coincident with the elastic strain energy curve, while the dissipation energy curve remains near zero. With the increase of strain, the growth rate of elastic strain energy increases gradually, but with the deformation entering the crack propagation stage, the growth rate of elastic strain energy slows down and the dissipation energy increases gradually. Finally,in the post-peak stage, rock fracture releases a lot of energy, which leads to the sharp decline of elastic strain energy curve. In addition, the introduction of damage variable D quantifies the analysis of the extent of failure for rocks.During the process of increasing strain, rock damage exhibits nonlinear growth with increasing stress.
文摘This work investigated the removal, kinetics and thermodynamics of iron(II) ions (Fe(II)) by adsorption in static and dynamic conditions in aqueous media on activated carbons (AC-i30min, AC-i1h, and AC-i24h), prepared from palm nut shells collected in the city of Franceville to Gabon, using potassium hydroxide (KOH) as the activating agent. Also, thermodynamic data obtained on AC-i24h in static adsorption indicated that the adsorption of Fe(II) was spontaneous and increased with temperature (ΔG˚ H˚ = 503.54 KJ/mol).

文摘Nanocrystalline/amorphous La Mg11Ni+x Ni(x=100%, 200%, mass fraction) composite hydrogen storage alloys were synthesized by ball milling technology. Moreover, the improvement of the gaseous hydrogen storage kinetics of the alloys is found to be ascribed to a decrease in the hydrogen desorption activation energy caused by increasing Ni content and prolong milling time.
文摘In clinical practice, dentists sometimes encounter phenomena that cannot be explained by modern western medical concepts;for example, the patient’s medical symptoms improve by bringing medicines or dentures close to the body. This time, the author would like to introduce a case which the patient’s knee pain improved by adjusting the dentures outside the mouth.
文摘Planck scale plays a vital role in describing fundamental forces. Thorough review may advance science further.
