Tubeimu(TBM), the rhizome of Bolbostemma paniculatum(Maxim.) Franquet, is one of the Chinese medicinal herbs used for breast diseases since the ancient times. The present study evaluated the efficacy, especially the anti-metastatic effects of the dichloromethane extract of Tubeimu(ETBM) on TNBC orthotopic mouse models and cell lines. Methods: We applied real-time imaging on florescent orthotopic TNBC mice model and tested cell migration and invasion abilities with MDA-MB-231 cell line. Digital gene expression sequencing was performed and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) analysis applied to explore the pathways influenced by ETBM.Moreover, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reactions(q RT-PCR) and Western blot were delivered to confirm the gene expression changes. Results: ETBM exhibited noticeable control on tumor metastasis and growth of TNBC tumors with no obvious toxicity. In compliance with this, it also showed inhibition of cell migration and invasion in vitro. Its impact on the changed biological behavior in TNBC may be a result of decreased expression of integrin β1(ITGβ1), integrin β8(ITGβ8) and Rho GTPase activating protein 5(ARHGAP5), which disabled the focal adhesion pathway and caused change in cell morphology. Conclusions: This study reveals that ETBM has anti-metastatic effects on MDA-MB-231-GFP tumor and may lead to a new therapeutic agent for the integrative treatment of highly invasive TNBC. 展开更多

After gene mutation, the pcDNA3.1/APP595/596 plasmid was transfected into HEK293 cells to establish a cell model of Alzheimer's disease. The cell model was treated with donepezil or compound Danshen tablets after culture for 72 hours. Reverse transcription-PCR showed that the mRNA expression of amyloid protein precursor decreased in all groups following culture for 24 hours, and that there was no significant difference in the amount of decrease between donepezil and compound Danshen tablets. Our results suggest that compound Danshen tablets can reduce expression of the mRNA for amyloid protein precursor in a transgenic cell model of Alzheimer's disease, with similar effects to donepezil. 展开更多

Replacing urethral tissue with functional scaffolds has been one of the challenging problems in the field of urethra reconstruction or repair over the last several decades. Various scaffold materials have been used in animal studies, but clinical studies on use of scaffolds for urethral repair are scarce. The aim of this study was to review recent animal and clinical studies on the use of different scaffolds for urethral repair, and to evaluate these scaffolds based on the evidence from these studies. Pub Med and OVID databases were searched to identify relevant studies, in conjunction with further manual search. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were systematically evaluated. Of 555 identified studies, 38 were included for analysis. It was found that in both animal and clinical studies, scaffolds seeded with cells were used for repair of large segmental defects of the urethra, such as in tubular urethroplasty. When the defect area was small, cell-free scaffolds were more likely to be applied. A lot of pre-clinical and limited clinical evidence showed that natural or artificial materials could be used as scaffolds for urethral repair. Urinary tissue engineering is still in the immature stage, and the safety, efficacy, cost-effectiveness of the scaffolds are needed for further study. 展开更多

Vietnam has a 4000-year old traditional system of pharmaco-medicine which was founded during the Hung King era (2879-257 B.C.). Vietnamese traditional medicine (TM) came from the society and was developed during the long years of living, working and struggling for existence among the Vietnamese people among 54 ethnic groups under extremely severe natural conditions, conflicts, and interaction with local neighboring nations such as China, Laos, Cambodia, india, etc. All of those form the foundations to shape the diversity, abundance and specialty of Vietnamese TM. Valuable experiences in TM have been transmitted from generation to generation, which is an important part of Vietnamese culture. 展开更多

Although a key tenant of the Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve universal health coverage, the global drug gap persists-cver a third of the global population lack access to essential medicines.Without access to affordable drugs, people have worse health outcomes, higher medical expenses, and productivity loss, pushing them into poverty.Health technology assessments(HTAs)offer an opportunity to decrease the global drug gap and increase access to essential medicines by overcoming barriers to medicine access. These barriers include drug procurement, drug affordability for payers and patients,a patienfs ability to obtain essential medicines, and health system capacity.Using HTAs can therefore close the global drug gap by increasing access to affordable essential medicines. In turn, people have better health outcomes, spend less money on medical care, and can have better productivity.Ultimately, use of HTAs can lift the population out of poverty and force fewer people into poverty by creating better health outcomes at affordable prices. 展开更多

The effects of the extracts of 20 Chinese medicinal herbs and an antiviral drug foscarnet on duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) endogenous DNA polymerase (DNAp) activity were compared. The extracts of P. urinaria showed a dose-dependent inhibition on DHBV DNAp. And those of other herbs showed little inhibition effect. Primary duck hepatocyte (PDH) cultures were used for evaluating effects of the extract of P. urinaria, foscarnet and acyclovir (ACV) on DHBV, and all the drugs or the extracts showed inhibition of DHBV DNA replication. Furthermore, in vivo trials were carried out. Peking ducks infected with LJ-76 strain of DHBV were treated with the extract of P. urinaria or ACV and compared with placebo treated control ducks. The treatment results in the loss or reduction of circulating viral DHBV DNA and DHBsAg. 展开更多

Objective To explore the antitumor effect of Yuyihe Powder(Yu Yi He San,YYHS) and its antitumor mechanism. Methods After treatment, tumor weight, immune apparatus weight, the life span of transplanted animals, spleen lymphocyte proliferation assays, and IL-2 concentration in mouse serum were recorded or detected. Results YYHS showed strong antitumor ability.Compared with control group,mid-dose YYHS(1.0g/kg) could inhibit the tumor growth, prolong the life span of S180-bearing mice to some extent, significantly increase the thymic and splenic indices of S180 mice, and strongly promote the secretion of IL-2 in blood; The inhibitory rate on tumor growth and life prolongation rate were 37.1%and 38.37%,respectively.Conclusion YYHS could not only significantly inhibit the growth of S180 cells, but also markedly prolong the survival time of S180 bearing mice. The mechanism of antitumor effect could obviously enhance immunologic function of the S180 bearing mice to inhibit the growth of S180 cells. 展开更多
