The author of this paper chooses one typical piece from the conversation poems,Frost at Midnight,the linking of whose stanzas and sentences is lucid and natural while poetry is well blended into the lines as a harmoni ous unity and thus find out this"graceful and intelligent"coherence deserves deep analysis. The poem is an organic unity sitting on sensational appeals,propelling by rational imaginations,its consistency in both structure and meaning naturally and beautifully achieved via various cleverly-contrived mechanisms,including devices of phonology,syntax and lexicon. Therefore,by repeti tion,contrast,run-on lines,he plants correlations in different nooks of the poem,whose co-operation not only integrates dis persed symbols,creating a perfect coherence in the form,but also embodies an over-arching sense of sublimely inclusive unity from a deep-leveled and omnibus perspective.展开更多
In Midnight's Children,frequently seen are the words like"hole","segment","crack",and the damage and loss of bodily function such as amnesia,which is called a"phenomenon of fragm...In Midnight's Children,frequently seen are the words like"hole","segment","crack",and the damage and loss of bodily function such as amnesia,which is called a"phenomenon of fragmentation"in this paper.In terms of the phenomenon,the characters of three generations in Midnight's Children are analyzed.It is found that colonial culture exerts a long-lasting impact on its colonized people,under whose influence generations of colonized people find it hard to negotiate their dual cultural identities.This happened to India.Postcolonial Indians had fragmented identities.Furthermore,the phenomenon also reflects that India was a fragmented nation,whose nationals desired peace,unity,and prosperity.展开更多
