Salim Barakat is a Kurdish author, yet his works are highly regarded for their mastery of Arabic. To achieve his impossible goal of presenting a true picture of the dire condition of the Syrian Kurdish communities, specifically the Yazidis’ genocide in his novel The Captives of Sinjar, he resorts to Latin American magical realism and a convoluted writing style. Characters are not what they seem and every natural thing is a sentient being. The narrative traces the ghostly lives and deaths of five captive Yazidi girls and their five ISIS fighter-masters. The protagonist, Sarat, a fictional image of Barakat, is a painter, who lives and works by a secluded lakeside in Sweden. His work is influenced by the horrific imaginations of famous European artists. This paper accents the novel’s deep structure of collective memories of individuals and communities as addressed by the modern philosophers: Theodor Adorno, Maurice Blanchot, and Maurice Halbwachs. 展开更多

The concept of “liberation” has profoundly influenced the development of modern Chinese literature, giving rise to a “liberation” theme with profound implications.Modern Chinese literature can be analyzed from the joint perspectives of the liberators, the routes to liberation and the scope of liberation.Variations among the liberators have led to the two different concepts of self-liberation and being liberated;the differences in the routes to liberation have led to the intermixture of liberation based on persuasion and struggle-based liberation;and the difference in the scope of liberation derives from the alternation of the partial achievement of thoroughgoing liberation and the full realization of incremental liberation. The Chinese concept of liberation was strongly shaped by the Communist Party of China (CPC);compared to the work of those writers influenced by the CPC’s concept of “liberation,” the writings of ordinary non-Communist writers present “liberation” differently. The latter tend to adopt an either/or attitude toward liberation, whereas the former ensure that liberation theme reflects the interaction and blending of different types of “liberation” concepts, thus establishing a new form of “liberation” writing. To mark the centenary of the CPC,we have reviewed and explored the “liberation” theme of modern Chinese literature in the hope that we will gain a full understanding of the theoretical discourse and historical practice of “liberation,” taking a dialectical approach to freedom and responsibility, respecting tradition while boldly pursuing innovation, and striving to explore the realistic significance and ideological value of literary works. 展开更多

Modern Chinese literature witnessed the popularity of Sichuan writers like Li Jieren and Sha Ting, who were well known for their distinctive regional characters and the experiences portrayed in their works, telling unadulterated“Sichuan Stories”and depicting lives in the context of Ba-Shu culture.People even consider their works to be the modern“Chronicles of Huayang(Huayang Guo Zhi)in modern time.”However, when we look at Ba Jin,his works are not like typical Sichuan writers(such as Guo Moruo,Li Jieren,Sha Ting, and Ai Wu).He did not pay much attention to depicting the customs and lives in Sichuan, and we can seldom find the flavor of Ba-Shu culture in his works. When editing Chinese Literature and Regional Culture in the 20th Century in 1995,Yan Jiayan so commented,“To study Sichuan literature Ba-Shu culture,it is not appropriate to pick Ba Jin(though he was a great writer with great contributions)”(Li,1997).As it were, the relationship between Ba Jin and the Ba-Shu culture is delicate.Ba Jin showed his distinctive choices and pursuit in this relationship.By studying the“regionalism”and“non-regionalism”of Ba Jin’s works,we can better understand Ba Jin and his writing. It is also enlightening for us to review the future development of Ba-Shu culture. 展开更多

Due to its own internal laws of development,Chinese medicine(CM)seems more inclined to empirical medicine in a relatively long historical period. It is considered to be lacking objective and unified clinical practice guidelines(CPGs),and the difficulties in diagnosis and therapeutic effect evaluation comes with it,have restricted its further inheritance, development and international communication.Over the years, our research group has been committed to improving the standardization theory and methodology of CM,also perfecting relative techniques for further application, which are all based on the stratified evidence scoring method. We have already applied this method to 45 issued guidelines, including 5 national guidelines,3 industrial guidelines, and 37 formulation/revision social organization guidelines. The stratified evidence scoring method has been recognized and used widely. It helps scholars and applicators to study, formulate, publish and popularize the acupuncture therapy clinical practice guidelines better, thus further promotes the development of acupuncture therapy. 展开更多
