The Jingren deposit is part of the Qimantage metallogenic belt within the eastern Kunlun orogenic belt, the largest metallogenic belt in Qinghai Province, northwestern China.Exploration data show that the metal resources of the Jingren deposit are greater than 93000 t in a mining area of 76.15 km2,which indicates significant exploration potential in the near future.Three W–E-trending faults,F1-3,dominate the extension of the mineralization zone, which consists of chalcopyrite, pyrite, magnetite, galena, sphalerite, and molybdenite as well as bismuth-bearing minerals. The deposit contains a large amount of late Triassic intrusive rocks, however, previous research did not reach a consensus on the timing or the origin of the mineralization owing to a lack of geochronological data and poor exposure conditions. In the present study,Re-Os isotopic dating from six molybdenite samples collected from a borehole of the granodiorite in the Jingren deposit using negative thermal ionization mass spectrometry(NTIMS)showed 187 Re and 187 Os concentrations of 0.26–4.40 ppm and 1.03–16.46 ppb, respectively, with an initial 187 Os/188 Os value of 0.06±0.19.This proves that the Jingren deposit has a metallogenic age of(225±4)Ma and is the product of united mineralization of the Qimantage metallogenic belt and that the Jingren deposit might actually be an Indosinian metallogeny. In addition, the Re content of these samples,at 0.42 ppm to 7.00 ppm shows that the mineralization was derived mainly from a crustal source.Furthermore, electron probe microanalysis(EPMA)conducted on chalcopyrite obtained from 22 metallic mineral samples revealed(Fe+Cu)/S ratios of 1.801–1.947 with an average of 1.852,which is lower than the ideal value(1.875).Besides,the main ore body formed in a relatively higher temperature environment than the surrounding rocks in the Jingren deposit. These data indicate that the Jingren deposit formed in a metallogenic environment at lower temperature. Moreover, according to the TiO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)-(MgO+MnO)and TiO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)-MgO genetic classification diagram for magnetite, the Jingren deposit most likely belongs to the skarn family. In addition, the Co-Ni-As genetic classification diagram of the pyrite indicates sedimentary and skarn genetic characteristics. 展开更多

Xintian polymetallie deposit is a hydrothermal vein type Cu-Mo deposit. Analysis on Re-Os isotopic dating for the molybdenite from this deposit is undertaken to determine metallogenic epoch and dynamics setting of the deposit. Re-Os isotopic dating for the molybdenite yields model ages ranging from 123.9 ± 1.9 Ma to 124.7 ± 1.8 Ma, with a weighted mean age of 123.4 ±0.81 Ma, and an isochron age of 127 ± 16 Ma, MSWD = 0.25, indicating that the metallization was at late Yanshanian. The content of Re in molybdenite is (330.1 ±4.0-367.9 ± 3.1 ) xl0^-6, which demonstrates mantle derived metallogenic sources. Integrating the region-al tectonic evolution and the metallogenic characteristics of other contemporaneous Cu-Mo deposits in the re-gion, it is suggested that the Cu-Mo mineralization of this deposit occurred in an active epieontinental environ-ment under lithospheric extension resulted from the subduction of the Izanagi plate to the Paleo-Asia continental margin at late Yanshanian. The Mantle wedge was partially melted with large amount of metallogenic elements dissolved in it. Under the favorable conditions of crust-mantle interaction, large-scale magmatic activity turns out to be the important mechanism of the mineralization of many Cu-Mo deposits in the Xiaoxingan Range-Zhangguangcai Mountain metallogenic belt, including the Xintian Cu-Mo polymetallic deposit. 展开更多

The orebodies occur as veins. Wolframite and molybdenite are the dominant ore minerals. Two samples were selected for molybdenite Re-Os dating in order to elucidate the timing of mineralization. Re-Os datings of molybdenite from quartz-woiframite veins and disseminated in granite yield ages of 153±7 Ma and 163.2±4.2 Ma respectively. The results indicate that the Yaogangxian tungsten deposit is the product of large-scale metallogenesis in the middle Yanshanian period in South China, and that the evolution from late magmatic to postmagmatic hypothermal mineralization occurred at about 10 Ma. The rhenium content of molybdenite in the Yaogangxian tungsten deposit suggests that the ore materials originated from the crust. 展开更多

Located in the eastern part of the East Qinling molybdenum belt, the Donggou deposit is a superlarge porphyry molybdenum deposit discovered in recent years. The authors performed highly precise dating of the mineralized porphyry and ores in the Donggou molybdenum deposit. A SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating of the Donggou aluminous A-type granite-porphyry gave a rock-forming age of 112±1 Ma, and the ICP-MS Re-Os analyses of molybdenite from the molybdenum deposit yielded ReOs model ages ranging from 116.5±1.7 to 115.5±1.7 Ma for the deposit. The ages obtained by the two methods are quite close, suggesting that the rocks and ores formed approximately at the same time. The Donggou molybdenum deposit formed at least 20 Ma later than the Jinduicheng, Nannihu, Shangfanggou and Leimengou porphyry molybdenum deposits in the same molybdenum belt, implying that these deposits were formed in different tectonic settings. 展开更多

The Zhashui-Shanyang district is one of the most important sulfide deposits in the Qinling Orogen where the formation of porphyry-skarn Cu-Mo deposits has a close genetic link with the Yanshannian magmatism.Laser Ablation-Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS) U-Pb zircon dating of two granodiorite intrusions(Xiaohekou and Lengshuigou deposits)was investigated in the Zhashui-Shanyang district and the rock-forming ages obtained from 148.3±2.8 to 152.6±1.2 Ma,averaging 150.5 Ma,accompanied by a younger disturbance age of 144.3±1.7 Ma in the Lengshuigou intrusion, which is in excellent agreement with published sensitive high resolution ion micro-probe(SHRIMP)zircon date on the later monzodiorite porphyry phase in the Lenshuigou deposit. Two samples were selected for molybdenite ICP-MS Re-Os isotopic analyses from the Lengshuigou granodiorite porphyry, yielding Re-Os model ages from 149.2±2.7 Ma to 150.6±3.4 Ma, with a weighted mean age of 149.7±2.1 Ma.These mineralization ages overlap rock-forming ages of the host intrusions within the error range. This implies that the mineralization occurred in the Late Jurassic, which belongs to the tectonic phase B event of the Yanshan Movement, not Cretaceous as previously thought. Therefore, the Late Jurassic mineralization of the Zhashui-Shanyang district could be connected to the large-scale Yanshan molybdenum metallogenic period, the geodynamic regime of which is attributable to the far field response of convergence of surrounding plates, perhaps the approximately westward subduction of the Izanagi plate beneath the Eurasian continent. 展开更多

Hejiangkou W-Sn-polymetallic deposit is a newly found deposit in Xitian ore field, one of the important and large scale W-Sn-polymetallic ore fields in the middle segment of Nanling metallogenic zone.Re-Os isotope dating was used on three molybdenite samples from Hejiangkou deposit to determine the ore forming period. The result is(224.9±2.6)Ma-(225±3.1)Ma and isochron age is(225.5±3.6)Ma.The field geological observations, geochronological data and optical petrography indicated that Hejiangkou deposit underwent multi-period of superimposed mineralization. It can be differentiated into three periods composed of six mineralization stages. The first period is the initial period for hydrothermal metasomatism and metal element enrichment during Indosinian Epoch.Further enrichment, strong brittle fracturing and hydrothermal metasomatism, remobilization and superimposition happened in the second period, during early Yanshanian. It is the major mineralization period of Hejiangkou deposit and can be subdivided into four mineralization stages, namely the skarn stage, oxide stage,high-temperature sulfide stage and low-temperature sulfide stage. And the third period is the mineralization period of a porphyry-skarn system related to the emplacement of the granite porphyry dyke.As minerogenic epoch of Hejiangkou deposit is similar with Hehuaping deposit, they show the possibility of Indosinian mineralization event in Nanling metallogenic zone.It can be an important perspective in any future mineral exploration in the same metallogenic zone. 展开更多

The large-scale Huangshaping Pb-Zn-W-Mo polymetallic deposit is located in the central Nanling min- eralization zone, South China. Six molybdenite samples from the Huangshaping deposit were selected for Re-Os isotope measurement in order to define the mineralization age of the deposit. It yields a Re-Os isochron age of 154.8±1.9 Ma (2σ ), which is in accordance with the Re-Os model ages of 150.9― 156.9 Ma. This age is about 7 Ma younger than their host granite porphyry, which was dated as 161.6±1.1 Ma by zircon U-Pb method using LA-ICPMS. All these ages demonstrate that the Huang- shaping granite and related Pb-Zn-W-Mo deposit occurred in the middle Yanshanian period, when many other granitoid and related ore deposits emplaced and formed, e.g. the Qitianling granite and Furong tin deposit, the Qianlishan granite and giant Shizhuyuan W-Sn-Mo-Bi deposit and Jinchuantang Sn-Bi deposit in the nearby area. They constitute the main part of the magmatic-metallogenic belt of southern Hunan, and represent the large-scale metallogeny in middle Yanshanian in the area. The lower rhenium content in molybdenite of Huangshaping deposit suggests that the ore-forming material was mainly of crust origin. 展开更多

The Erlihe Pb-Zn deposit is an important mine of the Pb-Zn metallogenic zone in the South Qinling Orogen. It has been considered a sedimentary exhalative deposit in previous investigations because the ore body occurs concordantly at the transitional location of an upright fold.Re and Os isotopic analyses for paragenetic pyrites with sphalerite and galena from the ore body have been used to determine the timing of mineralization and to trace the source of metallogenic materials. The Re-Os isotopic data of four pyrite samples construct an isochron, yielding a weighted average age of 226±17 Ma(mean square weighted deviation=1.7),which is considered the main mineralization age.A dioritic porphyrite vein sample, showing weaker mineralization, was also dated using the SHRIMP zircon UPb isotopic method to constrain the youngest metallogenic age of the ore deposit, because it distributes along a group of tensional joints cutting not only the upright fold in the deposit field, but also the main ore bodies. The dioritic porphyrite sample yields a weighted mean ^(206)Pb/^(238)U age of 221±3 Ma,which is slightly younger than the Re-Os isotopic isochron age of the pyrites, considered as the upper age limit of the mineralization, namely the ending age of the mineralization. The Os isotopic compositions of sulfide minerals distribute within a range between Os isotopic compositions of the crust and the mantle, indicating that the ore deposit can be derived from magma-related fluid, and the metallogenic materials are most likely derived from the mixing source of the crust and the mantle. The Erlihe Pb-Zn deposit and associated dioritic porphyrite vein, important records of Qinling tectonic-magmatism-mineralization activities, were formed during the Triassic collisional orogeny processes. 展开更多

This study deals with the first application of the isotope dilution - inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in the rhenium-osmium geochronometry in China. The chemical separation procedure included decomposition of samples by means of alkali fusion, extraction of rhenium by acetone and extraction of osmium by distillation. The recovery of both elements in the entire process was more than 90% . The blanks of analyses were 0.07 ng for rhenium and 0.01 ng for 187Os. The mineralization ages of molybdenites from four molybdenum deposits in China were determined by using this method, with a precision (2σ)of about ±3% . These results agree satisfactorily with their geological backgrounds. The Re-Os method can directly determine ages of metal deposits and reflect the true ages more reliably than other dating methods that only determine the ages of country rocks from which mineralization ages are inferred. As many hydrothermal sulphide deposits usually contain molybdenites, this method has bright prospects of wide application. 展开更多

The Huoshenmiao δeposit is Mo skarn δeposit, located in the western part of the Luanchuan ore δistrict.Mineralization process can be δivided into a skarn and a quartz-sulfide episodes with six stages: prograde(I), retrograde(II), quartz-K-feldspar(III), quartz-molybdenite(IV), quartz-pyrite(V), and quartzcalcite(VI). A combined study of geochronology, fluid inclusion(FI), and stable isotopes was conducted to constrain the mineralization age, source of ore materials, as well as the origin and evolution of the ore-forming fluids. Molybdenite Ree Os δating indicates that the δeposit was formed in the Late Jurassic(~145 Ma). The δ^(34)S values of sulfides range from 3.0‰ to 7.1‰, implying that the ore materials in the δeposit are magmatic in origin. Three types and six subtypes of FIs are δistinguished, namely, aqueous two-phase(W_1-and W_2-type), δaughter mineral-bearing multiphase(S_1-and S_2-type), and CO_2-bearing three-phase(C_1-and C_2-type). In stages I and II, the W_1-type FIs δisplay homogenization temperatures(Th) from 496°C to >600°C, with salinities of 14.9-18.3 wt.% NaCl eqv. The FIs in stages III, IV and early stage V composed of coeval S-, C-and W-types, respectively homogenize at similar Th, suggesting the occurrence of boiling. The W1-type FIs in late stage V and stage VI, yield Th of 102-406°C and salinities of 0-4.7 wt.% NaCl eqv. The δD_(H_2O)and δ^(18) O(H_2O)values of the ore-forming fluids in quartz-sulfide episode vary from-112‰ to-76‰, and 11.0‰ to 1.0‰, respectively. All these above observations reveal that the early ore-forming fluids are magmatic in origin, and characterized by high temperature and moderate to high salinity, and gradually evolve to low temperature, low salinity meteoric water. The Huoshenmiao Mo δeposit is associated with the magmatism event induced by the protracted subduction of the Izanagi plate beneath the eastern China continent. The δecrease in temperature, salinity and f(O_2), as well as change of p H δue to boiling and fluid-rock interaction, are the main factors controlling Mo δeposition. 展开更多

The Hermyingyi W-Sn deposit, situated in southern Myanmar, SE Asia, is a typical quartz-vein type W-Sn deposit. The ore-bearing quartz veins are mainly hosted by the Hermyingyi monzogranite which intruded into the Carboniferous metasedimentary rocks of Mergui Series. According to mineral assemblages and crosscutting relationships, four ore-forming stages are recognized:(1) silicate-oxide stage;(2) quartz-sulfide stage;(3) barren quartz vein stage;(4) supergene stage. Five molybdenite samples from the deposit yield Re-Os model ages ranging from 67.8±1.6 to 69.2±1.6 Ma(weighted mean age of 68.7±1.2 Ma), and a well-defined isochron age of 68.4±2.5 Ma(MSWD=0.18, 2σ). This Re-Os age is consistent with the previously published zircon U-Pb age of the Hermyingyi monzogranite(70.0±0.4 Ma)(MSWD=0.9, 2σ) within errors, which indicates a genetic link between the monzogranitic magmatism and W-Sn mineralization. The new high-precision geochronological data reveal that the granitic magmatism and associated W-Sn mineralization in southern Myanmar took place during the Late Cretaceous(70–68 Ma). The extremely low Re contents(22.9 ppb to 299 ppb) in molybdenite, coupled with sulfide δ^(34)S values in the range of +1.9‰ to +5.6‰ suggest that ore-forming metals were predominately sourced from the crustal-derived granitic magma. 展开更多

The Huangsha-Tieshanlong quartz-vein tungsten polymetallic ore deposit, located in the northern Pangushan-Tieshanlong tungsten ore field in eastern Ganxian-Yudu prospecting areas of the Yushan metallogenic belt, is a well-known tungsten deposit in southern Jiangxi province, China. SHRIMP-determined dating of zircons from the Tieshanlong granite yields ages of 168.1±2.1 Ma (n=11, MSWD-1.3). Rhenium and osmium isotopic dating of molybdenite from the Huangsha quartz-vein tungsten deposit determined by ICP-MS yields a weighted average ages of 153-3 Ma and model ages of 150.22.1 Ma - 155.4-2.3 Ma. The age of the Huangsha tungsten deposit is 10 to 15 Ma later than the Tieshanlong granite, which shows that there might have been another early Late Jurassic magmatic activity between 150 and 160 Ma, a process which is closely related with tungsten mineralization in this area. The Tieshanlong granite, the Hnangsha tungsten deposit and the Pangushan-Tieshanlong ore field were all formed around 150-170 Ma, belonging to products of a Mesozoic second large-scale mineralization. According to the collected molybdenite Re-Os dating results in southern Jiangxi province, the timescale of the associated molybdenum mineralization is 2-6 Ma in the tungsten deposit and the timescale of independent molybdenum mineralization is 1-4 Ma, implying the complexity of tungsten mineralization. Times of molybdenum mineralization are mainly concentrated in the Yanshanian, which includes three stages of 133-135 Ma, 150-162 Ma, and 166-170 Ma, respectively. The 150-162 Ma-stage is in accordance with ages of large-scale WoSn mineralization, which is mainly molybdenum mineralization characterized by associated molybdenum mineralization with development of an even greater-intensity independent molybdenum mineralization. Independent molybdenum mineralization occurred before and after large-scale W-Sn mineralization, which indicates that favorable prospecting period for molybdenum may be in Cretaceous and early late Jurassic. 展开更多

The Dexing porphyry copper ore mine is located in the Qin-Hang metallogenic belt between the Yangtze block and the Cathaysia block. It is a giant porphyry copper mine in China, including 3 ore districts: Tongchang, Fujiawu and Zhushahong. Our analyses of Re in molybdenite indicate that the ore-forming material of the copper ore deposits in Dexing should be mainly mantle-derived. Our study fills in a gap in the study of formation time of the Dexing copper mine, and further proves that the copper ore deposits in the three ore districts should be formed simultaneously, about 170 Ma, belonging to the early Yanshan period, and that the formation time of the copper ore deposits should be consistent with the formation time of granodiorite porphyry in which the copper ore deposits are hosted. Promising areas for seeking porphyry copper ore deposits is predicated to be the west or southwest of Dexing. 展开更多

The Suoerkuduke Cu (Mo) deposit, in the same metallogenic belt with Xilekuduke Cu-Mo deposit, is located in the Armantai island arc belt on the northern margin of East Junggar, Northwest China. Rhenium and osmium isotopic analysis of seven molybdenite samples from the deposit was used to determine the age of mineralization. A seven-point isochron age of 317.7±7.6 Ma, which is consistent, within analytical error, with the average model age of 323.3±1.9 Ma indicates that this deposit was formed at transitional period between the Early and Late Carboniferous. This age is obviously later than that of the Lower Devonian Tuoranggekuduke Formation acting as the wall rock but contemporaneous with the early stage of plutonism (330-268 Ma) in East Junggar. Based on the characteristics of mineralization age and tectonic setting of many typical deposits on the northern margin of East Junggar, we proposed that the mineralization age of Suoerkuduke deposit is a key period of East Junggar for the tectonic regime transforming from compression to extension and also the time when granitoids and deposits widely spread in this area. Mineralization and formation of skarn in this deposit are closely related to felsic-intermediate magmatism. The distinct characteristic from typical skarn-type deposits is that the metallogenic parent intrusion is a huge batholith in the depth. The Cu (Mo) mineralization, moyitc, and granite porphyry are all derived products of the batholith. 展开更多

Although some porphyry-skarn deposits occur in post-collisional extensional settings, the post-collisional deposits remain poorly understood. Here the authors describe the igneous geology, and mineralization history of Tuolangla,a newly-discovered porphyry-skarn Cu-W-Mo deposit in southern Tibet that belongs to the post-collisional class. The deposit is associated with Lower Cretaceous Bima Formation. It was intruded by granodiorite porphyry intrusions at about 23.1 Ma.Field investigation indicated that mineralization is spatially and temporally associated with granodiorite porphyry.Molybdenite yielded a Re-Os weighted mean age of 23.5±0.3 Ma and is considered to represent the age of skarn mineralization at the deposit.Theδ^34S values of sulfides, concentrated in a range between 0.6‰to 3.4‰,show that the sulfur has a homogeneous source with characteristics of magmatic sulfur. The Pb isotopic compositions of sulfides indicate that ore-forming metal materials were derived from the mantle and ancient crust. The granodiorite porphyry displays high SiO2(68.78%–69.75%)and K2O(3.40%–3.56%)contents,and relatively lower Cr(2.4×10^-6–4.09×10^-6),Ni(2.79×10^-6–3.58×10^-6)contents,and positiveεHf(t)values(7.7–12.9)indicating that the mineralization porphyry was derived from the partial melting of juvenile lower crust. The Tuolangla deposit is located in the central part of Zedang terrane. This terrane was once considered an ancient terrane. This terrane is in tectonic contact with Cretaceous ophiolitic rocks to its south and Mesozoic continental margin arc volcanics and intrusions of the Gangdese batholith of the Lhasa terrane to its north. Thus, the authors proposed that the Oligocene porphyry skarn Cu-W-Mo mineralization is probably associated with the Zedang terrane. This finding may clarify why the Oligocene(about 23 Ma)deposits are found only in the Zedang area and why mineralization types of the Oligocene mineralization are considerably different from those of the Miocene(17–14 Ma)mineralization. 展开更多

The Fenghuangshan skarn-type Cu deposit, Tongling Ore Cluster, Anhui Province, is an important component in the Middle-Lower Yangtze River ore-forming belt. To better understand magmatism and its relationship to mineralization, we investigated geochemical features, ore-forming fluids, and geochronology of the Xinwuli intrusion and the related Fenghuangshan Cu deposit. Lithogeochemical characteristics show that the Xinwuli quartz monzodiorite is formed by mixing magma derived from upper mantle alkaline basalt that has been contaminated by crust materials. C, H and O isotopes indicate that ore-forming fluids mainly come from the magma, with minor amounts of meteoric fluids involved at the late stage. S and Pb isotopic components indicate that ore-forming materials are derived from the mantle. Molybdenite Re-Os isotopic dating yields Re-Os model ages ranging from 139.1±2.4 Ma to 142.0±2.2 Ma, with an isochronal age of 141.1±1.4 Ma, which is consistent with sensitive, high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) zircon U-Pb ages of quartz monzodiorite and granodiorite in the mining area. Dating analysis yields ages from 136.0±2.0 Ma to 143.0±2.4 Ma for the quartz monzodiorite (a weighted average of 139.4±1.2 Ma) and ages from 136.7±2.0 Ma to 145.3±2.4 Ma for granodiorite (a weighted average of 141.0±1.1 Ma). 展开更多
