Wind energy has been widely applied in power generation to alleviate climate problems.The wind turbine layout of a wind farm is a primary factor of impacting power conversion efficiency due to the wake effect that reduces the power outputs of wind turbines located in downstream.Wind farm layout optimization(WFLO)aims to reduce the wake effect for maximizing the power outputs of the wind farm.Nevertheless,the wake effect among wind turbines increases significantly as the number of wind turbines increases in the wind farm,which severely affect power conversion efficiency.Conventional heuristic algorithms suffer from issues of low solution quality and local optimum for large-scale WFLO under complex wind scenarios.Thus,a chaotic local search-based genetic learning particle swarm optimizer(CGPSO)is proposed to optimize large-scale WFLO problems.CGPSO is tested on four larger-scale wind farms under four complex wind scenarios and compares with eight state-of-the-art algorithms.The experiment results indicate that CGPSO significantly outperforms its competitors in terms of performance,stability,and robustness.To be specific,a success and failure memories-based selection is proposed to choose a chaotic map for chaotic search local.It improves the solution quality.The parameter and search pattern of chaotic local search are also analyzed for WFLO problems. 展开更多

This paper presents a path planning approach for rotary unmanned aerial vehicles(R-UAVs)in a known static rough terrain environment.This approach aims to find collision-free and feasible paths with minimum altitude,length and angle variable rate.First,a three-dimensional(3D)modeling method is proposed to reduce the computation burden of the dynamic models of R-UAVs.Considering the length,height and tuning angle of a path,the path planning of R-UAVs is described as a tri-objective optimization problem.Then,an improved multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm is developed.To render the algorithm more effective in dealing with this problem,a vibration function is introduced into the collided solutions to improve the algorithm efficiency.Meanwhile,the selection of the global best position is taken into account by the reference point method.Finally,the experimental environment is built with the help of the Google map and the 3D terrain generator World Machine.Experimental results under two different rough terrains from Guilin and Lanzhou of China demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed algorithm in finding Pareto optimal paths. 展开更多

An application of multi-objective particle swarm optimization(MOPSO) algorithm for optimization of the hydrological model(HYMOD) is presented in this paper.MOPSO algorithm is used to find non-dominated solutions with two objectives: high flow Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency and low flow Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency.The two sets' coverage rate and Pareto front spacing metric are two criterions to analyze the performance of the algorithms.MOPSO algorithm surpasses multi-objective shuffled complex evolution metropolis(MOSCEM_UA) algorithm in terms of the two sets' coverage rate.But when we come to Pareto front spacing rate,the non-dominated solutions of MOSCEM_UA algorithm are better-distributed than that of MOPSO algorithm when the iteration is set to 40000.In addition,there are obvious conflicts between the two objectives.But a compromise solution can be acquired by adopting the MOPSO algorithm. 展开更多

A fuzzy particle swarm optimization (PSO) on the basis of elite archiving is proposed for solving multi-objective optimization problems. First, a new perturbation operator is designed, and the concepts of fuzzy global best and fuzzy personal best are given on basis of the new operator. After that, particle updating equations are revised on the basis of the two new concepts to discourage the premature convergence and enlarge the potential search space; second, the elite archiving technique is used during the process of evolution, namely, the elite particles are introduced into the swarm, whereas the inferior particles are deleted. Therefore, the quality of the swarm is ensured. Finally, the convergence of this swarm is proved. The experimental results show that the nondominated solutions found by the proposed algorithm are uniformly distributed and widely spread along the Pareto front. 展开更多

A modified multi-objective particle swarm optimization method is proposed for obtaining Pareto-optimal solutions effectively. Different from traditional multiobjective particle swarm optimization methods, Kriging meta-models and the trapezoid index are introduced and integrated with the traditional one. Kriging meta-models are built to match expensive or black-box functions. By applying Kriging meta-models, function evaluation numbers are decreased and the boundary Pareto-optimal solutions are identified rapidly. For bi-objective optimization problems, the trapezoid index is calculated as the sum of the trapezoid’s area formed by the Pareto-optimal solutions and one objective axis. It can serve as a measure whether the Pareto-optimal solutions converge to the Pareto front. Illustrative examples indicate that to obtain Paretooptimal solutions, the method proposed needs fewer function evaluations than the traditional multi-objective particle swarm optimization method and the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II method, and both the accuracy and the computational efficiency are improved. The proposed method is also applied to the design of a deepwater composite riser example in which the structural performances are calculated by numerical analysis. The design aim was to enhance the tension strength and minimize the cost. Under the buckling constraint, the optimal trade-off of tensile strength and material volume is obtained. The results demonstrated that the proposed method can effec tively deal with multi-objective optimizations with black-box functions. 展开更多

Background:To solve the cluster analysis better,we propose a new method based on the chaotic particle swarm optimization(CPSO)algorithm.Methods:In order to enhance the performance in clustering,we propose a novel method based on CPSO.We first evaluate the clustering performance of this model using the variance ratio criterion(VRC)as the evaluation metric.The effectiveness of the CPSO algorithm is compared with that of the traditional particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm.The CPSO aims to improve the VRC value while avoiding local optimal solutions.The simulated dataset is set at three levels of overlapping:non-overlapping,partial overlapping,and severe overlapping.Finally,we compare CPSO with two other methods.Results:By observing the comparative results,our proposed CPSO method performs outstandingly.In the conditions of non-overlapping,partial overlapping,and severe overlapping,our method has the best VRC values of 1683.2,620.5,and 275.6,respectively.The mean VRC values in these three cases are 1683.2,617.8,and 222.6.Conclusion:The CPSO performed better than other methods for cluster analysis problems.CPSO is effective for cluster analysis. 展开更多

In order to get a globally optimized solution for the Elevator Group Control System (EGCS) scheduling problem, an algorithm with an overall optimization function is needed. In this study, Real-time Particle Swarm Optimization (RPSO) is proposed to find an optimal solution to the EGCS scheduling problem. Different traffic patterns and controller mechanisms for EGCS are analyzed. This study focuses on up-peak traffic because of its critical importance to modern office buildings. Simulation results show that EGCS based on Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) using RPSO gives good results for up-peak EGCS scheduling problem. Besides, the elevator real-time scheduling and reallocation functions are realized based on RPSO in case new information is available or the elevator becomes busy because it is unavailable or full. This study contributes a new scheduling algorithm for EGCS, and expands the application of PSO. 展开更多

The performance comparison experimental results verify the superiority of the proposed algorithm. Agriculture plays a vital role in the food production process that occupies nearly one-third of the total surface of the earth.Rice is propagated from the seeds of paddy and it is a stable food almost used byfifty percent of the total world population.The extensive growth of the human population alarms us to ensure food security and the country should take proper food steps to improve the yield of food grains.This paper concentrates on improving the yield of paddy by predicting the factors that influence the growth of paddy with the help of Evolutionary Computation Techniques.Most of the researchers used to relay on historical records of meteorological parameters to predict the yield of paddy.There is a lack in analyzing the day to day impact of meteorological parameters such as direction of wind,relative humidity,Instant Wind Speed in paddy cultivation.The real time meteorological data collected and analysis the impact of weather parameters from the day of paddy sowing to till the last day of paddy harvesting with regular time series.A Robust Optimized Artificial Neural Network(ROANN)Algorithm with Genetic Algorithm(GA)and Multi Objective Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm(MOPSO)proposed to predict the factors that to be concentrated by farmers to improve the paddy yield in cultivation.A real time paddy data collected from farmers of Tamilnadu and the meteorological parameters were matched with the cropping pattern of the farmers to construct the database.The input parameters were optimized either by using GA or MOPSO optimization algorithms to reconstruct the database.Reconstructed database optimized by using Artificial Neural Network Back Propagation Algorithm.The reason for improving the growth of paddy was identified using the output of the Neural Network.Performance metrics such as Accuracy,Error Rate etc were used to measure the performance of the proposed algorithm.Comparative analysis made between ANN with GA and ANN with MOPSO to identify the recommendations for improving the paddy yield. 展开更多

A novel chaotic search method is proposed,and a hybrid algorithm combining particle swarm optimization(PSO) with this new method,called CLSPSO,is put forward to solve 14 integer and mixed integer programming problems.The performances of CLSPSO are compared with those of other five hybrid algorithms combining PSO with chaotic search methods.Experimental results indicate that in terms of robustness and final convergence speed,CLSPSO is better than other five algorithms in solving many of these problems.Furthermore,CLSPSO exhibits good performance in solving two high-dimensional problems,and it finds better solutions than the known ones.A performance index(PI) is introduced to fairly compare the above six algorithms,and the obtained values of(PI) in three cases demonstrate that CLSPSO is superior to all the other five algorithms under the same conditions. 展开更多

By adopting the chaotic searching to improve the global searching performance of the particle swarm optimization (PSO), and using the improved PSO to optimize the key parameters of the support vector machine (SVM) forecasting model, an improved SVM model named CPSO-SVM model was proposed. The new model was applied to predicting the short term load, and the improved effect of the new model was proved. The simulation results of the South China Power Market’s actual data show that the new method can effectively improve the forecast accuracy by 2.23% and 3.87%, respectively, compared with the PSO-SVM and SVM methods. Compared with that of the PSO-SVM and SVM methods, the time cost of the new model is only increased by 3.15 and 4.61 s, respectively, which indicates that the CPSO-SVM model gains significant improved effects. 展开更多

In order to solve reliability-redundancy allocation problems more effectively,a new hybrid algorithm named CDEPSO is proposed in this work,which combines particle swarm optimization (PSO) with differential evolution (DE) and a new chaotic local search.In the CDEPSO algorithm,DE provides its best solution to PSO if the best solution obtained by DE is better than that by PSO,while the best solution in the PSO is performed by chaotic local search.To investigate the performance of CDEPSO,four typical reliability-redundancy allocation problems were solved and the results indicate that the convergence speed and robustness of CDEPSO is better than those of PSO and CPSO (a hybrid algorithm which only combines PSO with chaotic local search).And,compared with the other six improved meta-heuristics,CDEPSO also exhibits more robust performance.In addition,a new performance was proposed to more fairly compare CDEPSO with the same six improved meta-heuristics,and CDEPSO algorithm is the best in solving these problems. 展开更多

In order to improve the performance of multi-objective workflow scheduling in cloud system, a multi-swarm multiobjective optimization algorithm(MSMOOA) is proposed to satisfy multiple conflicting objectives. Inspired by division of the same species into multiple swarms for different objectives and information sharing among these swarms in nature, each physical machine in the data center is considered a swarm and employs improved multi-objective particle swarm optimization to find out non-dominated solutions with one objective in MSMOOA. The particles in each swarm are divided into two classes and adopt different strategies to evolve cooperatively. One class of particles can communicate with several swarms simultaneously to promote the information sharing among swarms and the other class of particles can only exchange information with the particles located in the same swarm. Furthermore, in order to avoid the influence by the elastic available resources, a manager server is adopted in the cloud data center to collect the available resources for scheduling. The quality of the proposed method with other related approaches is evaluated by using hybrid and parallel workflow applications. The experiment results highlight the better performance of the MSMOOA than that of compared algorithms. 展开更多

A multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) approach for multi-objective economic load dispatch problem in power system is presented in this paper. The economic load dispatch problem is a non-linear constrained multi-objective optimization problem. The proposed MOPSO approach handles the problem as a multi-objective problem with competing and non-commensurable fuel cost, emission and system loss objectives and has a diversity-preserving mechanism using an external memory (call “repository”) and a geographically-based approach to find widely different Pareto-optimal solutions. In addition, fuzzy set theory is employed to extract the best compromise solution. Several optimization runs of the proposed MOPSO approach were carried out on the standard IEEE 30-bus test system. The results revealed the capabilities of the proposed MOPSO approach to generate well-distributed Pareto-optimal non-dominated solutions of multi-objective economic load dispatch. Com- parison with Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) showed the superiority of the proposed MOPSO approach and confirmed its potential for solving multi-objective economic load dispatch. 展开更多

To cope with the task scheduling problem under multi-task and transportation consideration in large-scale service oriented manufacturing systems(SOMS), a service allocation optimization mathematical model was established, and then a hybrid discrete particle swarm optimization-genetic algorithm(HDPSOGA) was proposed. In SOMS, each resource involved in the whole life cycle of a product, whether it is provided by a piece of software or a hardware device, is encapsulated into a service. So, the transportation during production of a task should be taken into account because the hard-services selected are possibly provided by various providers in different areas. In the service allocation optimization mathematical model, multi-task and transportation were considered simultaneously. In the proposed HDPSOGA algorithm, integer coding method was applied to establish the mapping between the particle location matrix and the service allocation scheme. The position updating process was performed according to the cognition part, the social part, and the previous velocity and position while introducing the crossover and mutation idea of genetic algorithm to fit the discrete space. Finally, related simulation experiments were carried out to compare with other two previous algorithms. The results indicate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed hybrid algorithm. 展开更多

In this paper, a hybrid improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm is proposed for the optimization of hydroelectric power scheduling in multi-reservoir systems. The conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is improved in two ways: (1) The linearly decreasing inertia weight coefficient (LDIWC) is replaced by a self-adaptive exponential inertia weight coefficient (SEIWC), which could make the PSO algorithm more balanceable and more effective in both global and local searches. (2) The crossover and mutation idea inspired by the genetic algorithm (GA) is imported into the particle updating method to enhance the diversity of populations. The potential ability of IPSO in nonlinear numerical function optimization was first tested with three classical benchmark functions. Then, a long-term multi-reservoir system operation model based on IPSO was designed and a case study was carried out in the Minjiang Basin in China, where there is a power system consisting of 26 hydroelectric power plants. The scheduling results of the IPSO algorithm were found to outperform PSO and to be comparable with the results of the dynamic programming successive approximation (DPSA) algorithm. 展开更多

To deal with the problems of premature convergence and tending to jump into the local optimum in the traditional particle swarm optimization, a novel improved particle swarm optimization algorithm was proposed. The self-adaptive inertia weight factor was used to accelerate the converging speed, and chaotic sequences were used to tune the acceleration coefficients for the balance between exploration and exploitation. The performance of the proposed algorithm was tested on four classical multi-objective optimization functions by comparing with the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm and multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm. The results verified the effectiveness of the algorithm, which improved the premature convergence problem with faster convergence rate and strong ability to jump out of local optimum. 展开更多

A new multi-species particle swarm optimization with a two-level hierarchical topology and the orthogonal learning strategy(OMSPSO) is proposed, which enhances the global search ability of particles and increases their convergence rates. The numerical results on 10 benchmark functions demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm. Then, the proposed algorithm is presented to design a butterfly-shaped microstrip patch antenna. Combined with the HFSS solver, a butterfly-shaped patch antenna with a bandwidth of about 40.1% is designed by using the proposed OMSPSO. The return loss of the butterfly-shaped antenna is greater than 10 d B between 4.15 and 6.36 GHz. The antenna can serve simultaneously for the high-speed wireless computer networks(5.15–5.35 GHz) and the RFID systems(5.8 GHz). 展开更多
