The application of mathematical modeling to biological fluids is of utmost importance, as it has diverse applicationsin medicine. The peristaltic mechanism plays a crucial role in understanding numerous biological flows. In thispaper, we present a theoretical investigation of the double diffusion convection in the peristaltic transport of aPrandtl nanofluid through an asymmetric tapered channel under the combined action of thermal radiation andan induced magnetic field. The equations for the current flow scenario are developed, incorporating relevantassumptions, and considering the effect of viscous dissipation. The impact of thermal radiation and doublediffusion on public health is of particular interest. For instance, infrared radiation techniques have been used totreat various skin-related diseases and can also be employed as a measure of thermotherapy for some bones toenhance blood circulation, with radiation increasing blood flow by approximately 80%. To solve the governingequations, we employ a numerical method with the aid of symbolic software such as Mathematica and MATLAB.The velocity, magnetic force function, pressure rise, temperature, solute (species) concentration, and nanoparticlevolume fraction profiles are analytically derived and graphically displayed. The results outcomes are compared withthe findings of limiting situations for verification. 展开更多

This research entails the study of heat and mass transfer of nanofluid flow in a fluidized bed dryer used in tea drying processes in presence of induced magnetic field. A mathematical model describing the fluid flow in a Fluidized bed dryer was developed using the nonlinear partial differential equations. Due to their non-linearity, the equations were solved numerically by use of the finite difference method. The effects of physical flow parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration and magnetic induction profiles were studied and results were presented graphically. From the mathematical analysis, it was deduced that addition of silver nanoparticles into the fluid flow enhanced velocity and temperature profiles. This led to improved heat transfer in the fluidized bed dryer, hence amplifying the tea drying process. Furthermore, it was noted that induced magnetic field tends to decrease the fluid velocity, which results in uniform distribution of heat leading to efficient heat transfer between the tea particles and the fluid, thus improving the drying process. The research findings provide information to industries on ways to optimize thermal performance of fluidized bed dryers. 展开更多

The problem of the steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a stretching sheet is studied. The effect of an induced magnetic field is taken into account. The nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations via the similarity transformation. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically using the shooting method. Numerical results are obtained for various magnetic parameters and Prandtl numbers. The effects of the induced magnetic field on the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, the velocity, and the temperature profiles are presented graphically and discussed in detail. 展开更多

In the present paper, we have considered the steady fully developed laminar natural convective flow in open ended vertical concentric annuli in the presence of a ra- dial magnetic field. The induced magnetic field produced by the motion of an electrically conducting fluid is taken into account. The transport equations concerned with the con- sidered model are first recast in the non-dimensional form and then unified analytical solutions for the velocity, induced magnetic field and temperature field are obtained for the cases of isothermal and constant heat flux on the inner cylin- der of concentric annuli. The effects of the various phys- ical parameters appearing into the model are demonstrated through graphs and tables. It is found that the magnitude of maximum value of the fluid velocity as well as induced magnetic field is greater in the case of isothermal condition compared with the constant heat flux case when the gap be- tween the cylinders is less or equal to 1.70 times the radius of inner cylinder, while reverse trend occurs when the gap between the cylinders is greater than 1.71 times the radius of inner cylinder. These fields are almost the same when the gap between the cylinders is equal to 1.71 times the radius of inner cylinder for both the cases. It is also found that as the Hartmann number increases, there is a flattening ten- dency for both the velocity and the induced magnetic field. The influence of the induced magnetic field is to increase the velocity profiles. 展开更多

We have experimentally offset-locked the frequencies of two lasers using electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) spectroscopy of ^(85)Rb vapor with a buffer gas in a magnetic field at room temperature. The magnetic field is generated by a permanent magnet mounted on a translation stage and its field magnitude can be varied by adjusting the distance between the magnet and Rb cell, which maps the laser locking frequency to the space position of the magnet. This frequency-space mapping technique provides an unambiguous daily laser frequency detuning operation with high accuracy.A repeatability of less than 0.5 MHz is achieved with the locking frequency detuned up to 184 MHz when the magnetic field varies from 0 up to 80 G. 展开更多

In this paper, the influence of heat transfer and induced magnetic field on peristaltic flow of a Johnson-Segalman fluid is studied. The purpose of the present investigation is to study the effects of induced magnetic field on the peristaltic flow of non-Newtonian fluid. The two-dimensional equations of a Johnson-Segalman fluid are simplified by assuming a long wavelength and a low Reynolds number. The obtained equations are solved for the stream function, magnetic force function, and axial pressure gradient by using a regular perturbation method. The expressions for the pressure rise, temperature, induced magnetic field, pressure gradient, and stream function are sketched and interpreted for various embedded parameters. 展开更多

A magnetic shape memory alloy with nonstoichiometric Ni50Mn27Ga23 was prepared by using melt-spinning technology. The martensitic transformation and the magnetic-field-induced strain (MFIS) of the polycrystalline melt-spun ribbon were investigated. The experimental results showed that the melt-spun ribbons underwent thermal-elastic martensitic transformation and reverse transformation in cooling and heating process and exhibited typical thermo-elastic shape memory effect. However the start temperature for martensitic transformation decreased from 286 K for as-cast alloy to 254 K for as-quenched ribbon and Curie temperature remains approximately constant. A particular internal stress induced by melt-spinning resulted in the formation of a texture structure in the ribbons, which made the ribbons obtain larger martensitic transformation strain and MFIS. The internal stress was released substantially after annealing, which resulted in a decrease of MFIS of the ribbons. 展开更多

The effects of microamount additions of RE (Tb, Sm) on martensitic transition, the magnetic-field-induced strain and the bending strength of highly textured polycrystalline Ni_(48)Mn_(33)Ga_(19) alloy were investigated. The experimental results show that the addition of RE elements decreases the martensitic transformation temperature and the Curie temperature. But the bending strength of Ni-Mn-Ga-RE (RE=Tb, Sm) alloys increases remarkably because of the grain refinement. As a result, Ni-Mn-Ga-RE alloys will be applied practically with higher reliability and stability due to favorable plasticity and toughness. In addition, the replacement of small amounts Ga by Tb or Sm decreases the magnetic-field-induced strain of the alloys at room temperature. 展开更多

A large MFIS of -1.10% was obtained undercompressi ve prestress conditions. In this work, laser induced tungsten plasma has been investigated in the absence and presence of 0.6 T static transverse magnetic field at atmospheric pressure in air.The spectroscopic characterization of laser induced tungsten plasma was experimentally studied using space-resolved emission spectroscopy. The atomic emission lines of tungsten showed a significant enhancement in the presence of a magnetic field, while the ionic emission lines of tungsten presented little change.Temporal variation of the optical emission lines of tungsten indicated that the atomic emission time in the presence of a magnetic field was longer than that in the absence of a magnetic field, while no significant changes occurred for the ionic emission time. The spatial resolution of optical emission lines of tungsten demonstrated that the spatial distribution of atoms and ions were separated. The influence of a magnetic field on the spatial distribution of atoms was remarkable, whereas the spatial distribution of ions was little influenced by the magnetic field. The different behaviors between ions and atoms with and without magnetic field in air were related to the various atomic processes especially the electrons and ions recombination process during the plasma expansion and cooling process. 展开更多

A viscous boundary layer flow of an electrically-conducting fluid over a moving flat plate in a parallel stream with a constant magnetic field applied outside the boundary layer parallel to the plate was investigated. The goveming system of partial differential equations was transformed to ordinary differential equations using a similarity transformation. The similarity equations were then solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. Numerical results of the skin friction coefficient, velocity profiles, and the induced magnetic field profiles were obtained for some values of the moving parameter, magnetic parameter, and reciprocal magnetic Prandtl number. The results indicate that dual solutions exist when the plate and the fluid move in the opposite directions up to a critical value of the moving parameter, whose value depends on the value of the magnetic parameter. 展开更多

The symmetric nature of the flow in a channel is utilized. The velocity slip condition in terms of shear stresses is considered. The mathematical formulation is presented, and the equations are solved under long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximations. The perturbation solutions are established for the pressure, the axial velocity, the micro-rotation component, the stream function, the magnetic-force function, the axial induced magnetic field, and the current distribution across the channel. The solution expressions for small Weissenberg numbers are derived. The flow quantities of interest are sketched and analyzed. 展开更多

In the framework of the tight-binding model, the excitons states and linear absorption spectra are calculated in the metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes, with the axial magnetic field applied. From our calculations, it is found that for the Mll and M22 transitions, the exeiton states are split into four separate column states by the applied magnetic field due to the symmetry breaking. More interesting is that the splitting can be directly reflected from the linear absorption spectra~ which are dominated by four main absorption peaks. In addition, the splitting with increasing the axial magnetic field is also calculated, which increases linearly with the applied magnetic field. The obtained results are expected to be detected by the future experiments. 展开更多

The paper investigates the numerical solution of the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) boundary layer flow of non-Newtonian Casson fluid on a moving wedge with heat and mass transfer. The effects of thermal diffusion and diffusion thermo with induced magnetic field are taken in consideration. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations by applying the similarity transformation and solved numerically by using finite difference method (FDM). The effects of various governing parameters, on the velocity, temperature and concentration are displayed through graphs and discussed numerically. In order to verify the accuracy of the present results, we have compared these results with the analytical solutions by using the differential transform method (DTM). It is observed that this approximate numerical solution is in good agreement with the analytical solution. Furthermore, comparisons of the present results with previously published work show that the present results have high accuracy. 展开更多

The present work is devoted to the study of bosons evolving in the frozen magnetar's crust endowed with an ultra-strong magnetic field orthogonal to an electric field, both described by periodic functions. We discuss the quantum tunneling process through the one-dimensional potential barrier along Oz. The solutions to the Klein- Gordon equation are expressed in terms of Mathieu's functions which, for computable particle's energy range, are turning from oscillatory to exponentially growing modes along Oz. Within the Jeffreys Wentzel Kramers- Brillouin framework, the transmission coefficient is computed for the particle momentum in the middle of the instability range. 展开更多

Various spectroscopic experiments performed on the AIRBUS ZERO G—located in Bordeaux, France—in the years 2002 to 2012 exhibit minute optical reflection/absorption changes (GIACs) as a result of gravitational changes between 0 and 1.8 g in various biological species such as maize, oats, Arabidopsis and particularly Phycomyces sporangiophores. During a flight day, the AIRBUS ZERO G conducts 31 parabolas, each of which lasts about three minutes including a period of 22 s of weightlessness. So far, we participated in 11 parabolic flight campaigns including more than 1000 parabolas performing various kinds of experiments. During our campaigns, we observed an unexplainable variability of the measuring signals (GIACs). Using GPS-positioning systems and three dimensional magnetic field sensors, these finally were traced back to the changing earth’s magnetic field associated with the various flight directions. This is the first time that the interaction of gravity and the Earth’ magnetic field in the primary induction process in living system has been observed. 展开更多

It was found that the growth of malignant tumour in mice was inhibited and the ability of immune cell’s dissolving cancer cells was enhanced by ultralow frequency (ULF) pulsed gradient magnetic field. The DNA contents of nuclei decreased which indicated that magnetic field can block DNA replication and mitosis of cancer cells. It was observed that magnetic field inhibited the cancer cell’s metabolism, lowered its malignancy, and restrained its rapid and heteromorphic growth. The morphology properties of Programmed Cell Death (PCD) of the cancer cells of the treated group by magnetic field was observed for the first time. The heterochromatin condensed and coagulated together along the nuclear membrane; the endoplasmic reticulums expanded and fused with the cellular membrane; many apoptotic bodies which were packed by the cellular membrane appeared and were devoured by the lymphocytes and plasma. 展开更多
