Actually, this object should be assigned to the same category as the Eastern Zhou small-mouthed ding in the Yangtze-Hanshui area, and shows a rather strong formal similarity to the iron fu cauldron of the Chu culture and the ding-shaped compound yan steamer in the area north of the Five Ridges. It must have been introduced from beyond the Ridges. Being a non-Yue type product, its shape possesses temporal traits of an earlier date, and it is a problem whether it was cast in the Nanyue state. Therefore, it is doubtful that ancient iron metallury in the area south of the Five Ridges can be inferred on the basis of this ding.展开更多
