Ethernet fundamental and its data transmission model are introduced in brief and end-to-end network latency was analyzed in this paper. On the premise of not considering transmission quality and transmission cost, latency was the function of the rest of network resource parameter (NRP). The relation between the number of nodes and that of end-to-end links was presented. In ethernet architecture, the algorithm to determine the link with the smallest latency is a polynomial issue when the number of network nodes is limited, so it can be solved by way of polynomial equations. Latency measuring is the key issue to determine the link with the smallest network latency. 3-node brigade (regiment) level network centric warfare (NCW) demonstration platform was studied and the latency between the detectors and weapon control stations was taken as an example. The algorithm of end-to-end network latency and link information in NCW was presented. The algorithm program based on Server/Client architecture was developed. The data transmission optimal link is one whose end-to-end latency is the smallest. This paper solves the key issue to determine the link whose end-to-end latency is the smallest in ethernet architecture. The study can be widely applied to determine the optimal link which is in the complex network environment of multiple service provision points. 展开更多

It is necessary to find a tradeoff between power consumption and communication latency. So we propose an analytical latency model which can show us the relationship of them. The proposed model to analyze latency is based on the M/G/1 queuing model, which is suitable for dynamic frequency scaling. The experiment results show that the accuracy of this model is more than 90%. 展开更多

The data flow requirement model in NCW is presented. Based on synthetic analysis of network resource, the QOS (Quality of Service) parameters and their characters, the high requirement of real-time synchronization in NCW, the single QOS routing constraint, and the network latency between the detector and weapon control station, are presented. To take an example for 3-node brigade (regiment) level NCW demonstration platform, the algorithm of end-to-end network latency and path information in NCW are presented. The algorithm program based on Server/Client architecture is developed. The optimal path is the link whose latency between the detector and weapon control station is the smallest. This paper solves the key issue and satisfies the needs on network latency in NCW. The study results can be widely applied in the decision of the optimal path which is based on multiple service provision points. 展开更多

Large latency of applications will bring revenue loss to cloud infrastructure providers in the cloud data center. The existing controllers of software-defined networking architecture can fetch and process traffic information in the network. Therefore, the controllers can only optimize the network latency of applications. However, the serving latency of applications is also an important factor in delivered user-experience for arrival requests. Unintelligent request routing will cause large serving latency if arrival requests are allocated to overloaded virtual machines. To deal with the request routing problem, this paper proposes the workload-aware software-defined networking controller architecture. Then, request routing algorithms are proposed to minimize the total round trip time for every type of request by considering the congestion in the network and the workload in virtual machines(VMs). This paper finally provides the evaluation of the proposed algorithms in a simulated prototype. The simulation results show that the proposed methodology is efficient compared with the existing approaches. 展开更多

Ultra-reliable and low-latency communications(URLLC) has become a fundamental focus of future industrial wireless sensor net-works(IWSNs). With the evolution of automation and process control in industrial environments, the need for increased reliabilityand reduced latencies in wireless communications is even pronounced. Furthermore, the 5G systems specifically target the URLLCin selected areas and industrial automation might turn into a suitable venue for future IWSNs, running 5G as a high speed inter-process linking technology. In this paper, a hybrid multi-channel scheme for performance and throughput enhancement of IWSNsis proposed. The scheme utilizes the multiple frequency channels to increase the overall throughput of the system along with theincrease in reliability. A special purpose frequency channel is defined, which facilitates the failed communications by retransmis-sions where the retransmission slots are allocated according to the priority level of failed communications of different nodes. Ascheduler is used to formulate priority based scheduling for retransmission in TDMA based communication slots of this channel.Furthermore, in carrier-sense multiple access with collision avoidance(CSMA/CA) based slots, a frequency polling is introducedto limit the collisions. Mathematical modelling for performance metrics is also presented. The performance of the proposed schemeis compared with that of IEEE802.15.4e, where the performance is evaluated on the basis of throughput, reliability and the num-ber of nodes accommodated in a cluster. The proposed scheme offers a notable increase in the reliability and throughput over theexisting IEEE802.15.4e Low Latency Deterministic Networks(LLDN) standard. 展开更多

With the advent of virtualization techniques and software-defined networking(SDN),network function virtualization(NFV)shifts network functions(NFs)from hardware implementations to software appliances,between which exists a performance gap.How to narrow the gap is an essential issue of current NFV research.However,the cumbersomeness of deployment,the water pipe effect of virtual network function(VNF)chains,and the complexity of the system software stack together make it tough to figure out the cause of low performance in the NFV system.To pinpoint the NFV system performance,we propose NfvInsight,a framework for automatic deployment and benchmarking VNF chains.Our framework tackles the challenges in NFV performance analysis.The framework components include chain graph generation,automatic deployment,and fine granularity measurement.The design and implementation of each component have their advantages.To the best of our knowledge,we make the first attempt to collect rules forming a knowledge base for generating reasonable chain graphs.NfvInsight deploys the generated chain graphs automatically,which frees the network operators from executing at least 391 lines of bash commands for a single test.To diagnose the performance bottleneck,NfvInsight collects metrics from multiple layers of the software stack.Specifically,we collect the network stack latency distribution ingeniously,introducing only less than 2.2%overhead.We showcase the convenience and usability of NfvInsight in finding bottlenecks for both VNF chains and the underlying system.Leveraging our framework,we find several design flaws of the network stack,which are unsuitable for packet forwarding inside one single server under the NFV circumstance.Our optimization for these flaws gains at most 3x performance improvement. 展开更多
