The integration of cross-cultural inquiries into the realm of translation has given rise to a distinct subfield known as cross-cultural translation studies.This approach emphasizes the importance of delving into the cultural subtleties and the awareness of cultural subjectivity within the translation process.Central to this framework is the concept of reshaping cultural nuances and the subjectivity of culture.This paper introduces three principal translation strategies that emerge from a cross-cultural standpoint:the alienation translation strategy,the‘cannibalism’translation strategy,and the destructive translation strategy.Utilizing the English translation of“Dream of the Red Chamber”as a case study,the paper examines how cultural nuances and cultural subjectivity influence the selection of translation strategies and demonstrates the practical application of cross-cultural research within the translation sphere.Hence,the significance of cross-cultural translation studies lies in its capacity to offer a novel lens through which to view translation studies.It encourages a reevaluation of cultural nuances and subjectivity in translation,which is of profound practical importance for advancing the field of translation studies,enhancing cross-cultural communication,and facilitating the spread of Chinese discourse on the global stage.

A Study of C-E Translation of Flower Culture from the Perspective of Peter Newmark’s Semantic and Communicative Translation Theory——A Case Study of Xue Baochai’s Flower Card in A Dream of Red Mansions

It can be divided into two approaches to culture involved in translation: SL culture-oriented and TL culture-oriented.This kind of classification is based on the analysis of translation of cultural loaded words and expressions in the two English versions( Xianyi Yang& Gladys Yang and David Hawkes) of the Chinese classical novel A Dream of Red Mansion.The analysis leads to the conclusion that both methods can achieve the goal in the target language culture as long as the differences are taken into consideration in the purpose of translation,the form of the texts,the purpose of the author and the readers.

From the perspective of Speech Act Theory, it aims to analyze the translation of a novel—A Dream in Red Mansions provided by Yang Xianyi. It analyzes and appraises some conversations via a simple evaluation model based on the realization of three speech acts that the writer would like to let readers understand. It finally arrives at the conclusion that the quoted version of conversations is vivid and appropriate except for a few expressions.

Emotion,Metaphor and Translation: A Case Study on the English Version of A Dream of Red Mansions

Emotional metaphors abound in the original works and translations of A Dream of Red Mansions. Based on statistical analysis,a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods are utilized from the perspective of cognitive linguistics to study the emotional metaphors appearing in the first 50 chapters of the novel and their corresponding English translations by Hawkes and the Yang couple.To generalize rules in the translation of emotional metaphors,the emotional metaphor of “Qi” is taken as an example by calculating the ratios of each kind of emotional metaphors and the frequencies of translation methods adopted.The findings suggest that when translating emotional metaphors,translators have selected their strategies from cognitive perspectives to achieve equivalence between the source language and the target language despite some challenges and restrictions.It is thus concluded that the emotional metaphor in the novel cannot be translated directly but can be approached through selection of appropriate translation methods including meaning transfer,meaning deviation and metaphor omission.

On the English Version of A Dream in Red Mansions Translated by Liu Wuji

In An Introduction to Chinese Literature written by Liu Wuji,there are six translations of the passages in A Dream in Red Mansions,of which the Chinese version is the Zhiyanzhai version.Recently,it is doubted whether the six translations are all quoted.Through detailed analysis and literature review,this paper finds out that the translations of A Dream in Red Mansions are all translated by Liu Wuji,and the Chinese version is the Chengyi Version.

A Comparative Study of the Poem Translation Styles of the German Translation of A Dream of Red Mansions From the Perspective of Corpus-Translatology

Poetry is an integral part of the artistic framework of A Dream of Red Mansions,and plays a crucial role in shaping the atmosphere,portraying characters,and reflecting social reality,therefore it has both unique artistic charm and research value.This paper takes Kuhn’s and Schwarz’s translation of A Dream of Red Mansions as the research objects,selects 19 poems that both translators have translated to make a corpus,uses the software LancsBox to compare the translations from three levels of vocabulary,syntax,and text,in order to provide a new interpretation dimension for the translation research of A Dream of Red Mansions and enrich the application of the corpus-based method in the field of translation research of Chinese classics.

《红楼梦》之《好了歌》两个关键词蒙译对比研究

《红楼梦》是中国古代章回体长篇虚构小说,中国古典四大名著之一。《红楼梦》翻译是让世界认识中国文化的重要桥梁。《好了歌》作为《红楼梦》的文眼,目前在《红楼梦》蒙古文译本中有多种不同的文本。对比分析《好了歌》中《好》《了》两个字的三种不同蒙译可以看出,在对话部分的翻译中,哈斯宝的翻译基本上忠于原作,而赛音巴雅尔等人的翻译和乌顺包都嘎的翻译却有明显的改译痕迹。在诗体部分的翻译中,三个译本在《好》字的处理上表现出了较高的一致性,均采用了直译的方法,但在《了》字的翻译上,不同的译本呈现出了各自的风格,体现了翻译的丰富性和多样性。

从1981年由中国歌剧舞剧院于颖编导的舞剧《红楼梦》,到2021年由江苏大剧院运营,黎星、李超等主创的舞剧《红楼梦》,这是中国民族舞剧四十年历史跨越的缩影。“于颖版”《红楼梦》作为“新古典舞派”的代表剧目,坚持以戏曲舞蹈为基础发展舞剧语言,其脱胎于越剧版本,主张从人物思想感情的真实出发去编舞。“黎星版”《红楼梦》这部高度吸纳并整合了“舞蹈剧场”理念的“民族舞剧”,以戏剧的手段、舞蹈的身体逻辑进行叙事,将中国民族舞剧的创编推向一个具有里程碑意义的新高度。

从戏曲语言的音乐性探究越剧《红楼梦》的英译——多模态语料库的个案分析

音乐性是戏曲语言的一大特征,不仅表现在唱词的音韵和节奏上,也蕴含在戏曲表演的动作和情感上,具有多模态整合特点,因而戏曲翻译研究可借鉴多模态视角。以越剧《红楼梦》古戏楼版国际网络直播(中英双语字幕)的音视频材料自建多模态语料库,对比分析字幕唱词英译的音乐性特点。研究发现:音韵方面,英译押韵较好,保留了上口性特征,但在表现情感变化上有欠缺;节奏方面,译文能做到和原文近似,但在结合舞台动作上存在唱词与动作指向不太合拍甚至相反的情况。今后在深化戏曲翻译的多模态研究和推动戏曲文化对外传播方面,建议:提高多模态文本标注的客观性;对比英文音节和音步的抑扬节奏,可考虑参照戏曲板式和曲谱的细致参数进行多模态文本标注;探索更为合理的音高和音长分析;融入更多戏曲听觉视觉参数进行多模态分析。

基于《红楼梦》英译本的跨文化语义翻译研究

本文主要通过对《红楼梦》两个经典英译本中三个目标词的分析,探索在文化翻译的过程中,译者如何传递文化语义信息。研究发现两个译本都以忠实于源语文化为原则,发掘译入语中跨文化的对应,既达到了文化传播的目的,又尊重不同民族的文化内涵。研究结果对跨文化传播和翻译具有一定的启示意义。
