In this study,the potential Kadomtsev-Petviashvili(pKP)equation,which describes the oblique interaction of surface waves in shallow waters,is solved by the new extended direct algebraic method.The results of the study...In this study,the potential Kadomtsev-Petviashvili(pKP)equation,which describes the oblique interaction of surface waves in shallow waters,is solved by the new extended direct algebraic method.The results of the study show that by applying the new direct algebraic method to the pKP equation,the behavior of the obliquely interacting surface waves in two dimensions can be analyzed.This article fairly clarifies the behaviors of surface waves in shallow waters.In the literature,several mathematical models have been developed in attempt to study these behaviors,with nonlinear mathematics being one of the most important steps;however,the investigations are still at a level that can be called‘baby steps’.Therefore,every study to be carried out in this context is of great importance.Thus,this study will serve as a reference to guide scientists working in this field.展开更多
The amount of image data generated in multimedia applications is ever increasing. The image compression plays vital role in multimedia applications. The ultimate aim of image compression is to reduce storage space wit...The amount of image data generated in multimedia applications is ever increasing. The image compression plays vital role in multimedia applications. The ultimate aim of image compression is to reduce storage space without degrading image quality. Compression is required whenever the data handled is huge they may be required to sent or transmitted and also stored. The New Edge Directed Interpolation (NEDI)-based lifting Discrete Wavelet Transfrom (DWT) scheme with modified Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees (MSPIHT) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The NEDI algorithm gives good visual quality image particularly at edges. The main objective of this paper is to be preserving the edges while performing image compression which is a challenging task. The NEDI with lifting DWT has achieved 99.18% energy level in the low frequency ranges which has 1.07% higher than 5/3 Wavelet decomposition and 0.94% higher than traditional DWT. To implement this NEDI with Lifting DWT along with MSPIHT algorithm which gives higher Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) value and minimum Mean Square Error (MSE) and hence better image quality. The experimental results proved that the proposed method gives better PSNR value (39.40 dB for rate 0.9 bpp without arithmetic coding) and minimum MSE value is 7.4.展开更多

To investigate the gas emission from water, Gao et al.（2013） developed a new method using a bubble trap device to collect gas samples from waters. However, the determination accuracy of sampling volume and gas component concentration was still debatable. In this study, the method was optimized for in situ sampling, accurate volume measurement and direct injection to a gas chromatograph for the analysis of N2 and other gases. By the optimized new method, the recovery rate for N2 was 100.28% on average; the mean coefficient of determination（R2） was 0.9997; the limit of detection was 0.02%. We further assessed the effects of the new method, bottle full of water, vs. vacuum bag and vacuum vial methods, on variations of N2 concentration as influenced by sample storage times of 1,2, 3, 5, and 7 days at constant temperature of 15°C, using indices of averaged relative peak area（%） in comparison with the averaged relative peak area of each method at 0 day.The indices of the bottle full of water method were the lowest（99.5%–108.5%） compared to the indices of vacuum bag and vacuum vial methods（119%–217%）. Meanwhile, the gas chromatograph determination of other gas components（O2, CH4, and N2O） was also accurate.
